Mikey Posted 13 February 2010 Posted 13 February 2010 This notion is the reaosn why atmospheres at English football games are shitbecause people like you turn up to a 'mid-table, second tier Championship match' and just expect/want a mild atmopshere because it isn't a champions league semi final or a 'Big four' game maybe if you treated every game you went too like it meant something, like me and many others do anyway because everygame is important to me, then the general atmosphere would be better and people wouldnt think they needed a flare to boost the atmosphere i thought the flare was amazing, and between our second goal and their goal the atmosphere was awesome and i have been at away games after scoring and the atmopshere has been terrible, so i am going to stick my neck out and say the flare did help i dont understand why you are getting so emotional over it to be fair, it was a bit of fun your life must seriously be missing something if you are that anti-anything that isnt part of the english football culture if i could chose between the english football culture and ANY european football culture i know which i would chose hands down and its mostly down to the fact that the majority of english fans are as boring as you ****ing quality post mate. The flare definitely added to the atmosphere, everyone loved it tbf. Guess it was just one of those 'had to be there' moments.
OzFox Posted 13 February 2010 Posted 13 February 2010 Personally I'd rather see flair than flare. Steve Walsh was almost hit by a flare at Hillsborough just before the Coca Cola Cup replay against Boro. This poll would probably look a bit different had it smacked him between the eyes
fatmando Posted 13 February 2010 Posted 13 February 2010 Is anybody else like me and just doesn't give a f**k about this? I keep reading this thread and it is confusing me why are people getting so worked up about ethier side of the argument. I have not voted because I don't fall into ethier category. If our younger away fans want to set off a flare because they feel it will increase the atmosphere then let them. They didn't hurt anybody, they didn't ruin it for anybody else. There is no point moaning about it. But likewise the people who loved it should really be over it by now. It wasn't exactly spectacular. It was one, little glorified sparkler! When I first heard about it I raised a smile, that's about it. All fans (from both sides of the flare divide!) singing the same songs together throughout the game would create a much better atmosphere for everybody. Not that I'm getting to many away games at the minute to experience it being a weekend dad but there you go. I know my little boy would love to see a flare at the home game against scunny today, I won't get his hopes up tho!! Come on City!!
CosbehFox Posted 13 February 2010 Posted 13 February 2010 I reckon you'd be alright at P.Boro I've seen 3 or 4 used on that terrace by Brighton.

Simmo86 Posted 13 February 2010 Posted 13 February 2010 To be honest, I'm a bit drunk so will probably regret this in the morning, but dear fucking God you are a boring, miserable, self-satisfying bag of shit, aren't you?? Honestly, if you think (and you're one of a small number) that the flare was pathetic, then assess your life and stop following us away from home. We're not the Walkers Stadium at away games, we're a different breed of fan, a different kind of person. If setting off flares adds to the atmosphere like I think it does and stops wankers like you attending, then I think it should be compulsory. i like this :crylaugh:

Fosse Boy Posted 13 February 2010 Posted 13 February 2010 This has never been about Health and Safety. It's about the fact that there's more to an atmosphere than setting off a flare. It's about 2000 grown men and women, united only by one football club, singing and cheering in unison. What the fook a flare has to do with anything in a football ground I'll never know. Well, I don't know about you but my throat was hoarse from singing in the eighty odd minutes before the flare was set off and for me the flare was just an extension of the atmosphere we'd had in that section all afternoon. Oh wait, you weren't there so you wouldn't know that...

Come on City!! yep, i'll just get shot down for the usual reasons. i'm not saying ban them because i don't give a toss, i have nothing against them but i'm 100% certain that if i saw a flare i wouldn't start wetting myself in excitement.

OzFox Posted 13 February 2010 Posted 13 February 2010 No one threw the flare on the pitch?? It crossed half the pitch so most likely fired from a flare gun. Walsh didn't see it until it landed next to him

lou Posted 13 February 2010 Posted 13 February 2010 Blackpool let some off at Preston today. Wonder where they got the idea... Disgraceful, hundreds could have been killed!
lou Posted 13 February 2010 Posted 13 February 2010 Apparently three got arrested. Bring back hanging!
Fosse Boy Posted 13 February 2010 Posted 13 February 2010 Bring back hanging! Being burned at the stake might be a more appropriate punishment for these sorts of ruffians and ne'erdowells.

OzFox Posted 14 February 2010 Posted 14 February 2010 I was on about at Blackpool Oh yes. So obvious from your response. How silly of me...
Tommeh Posted 17 February 2010 Posted 17 February 2010 Ipswich set one off at Posh last night and 3 Blackpool fans are due to appear in court for the ones at Preston. Every week a new team is getting in on the act.
