Is this still going on? lol

17 pages of people discussing a pocket sized firework.

its not just about discussing 'a pocket sized firework' its the point of creating an atmosphere and doing something out of the ordinary. It has been said in this post that flares are banned and illegal for a reason, but standing up in a ground is against regulations and alot of people still do it. As is banging signs, but people still do that. I was not at blackpool so cant really comment but speaking to friends and seeing videos, the flare definitely did increase the atmosphere. I know if there was a flare in L1 for example i would jump about and sing alot more. As would other fans. If you wont do anything in fear of getting banned then eventually there will be no standing etc. That will decrease the atmosphere severely. As i have said before, next time lets hope its a blue flare?? if there is a next time..

lol I've been banned for standing, fact. 3 games! I wasn't even standing, I was leaning on the back of the Walkers. I hate Stewards.

I just don't see whats to discuss to be honest, I'm indifferent towards flares (unless they're in wooden stands in which case behave) they're alright, I think we'll do a lot better if try and rediscover what it is to have a proper English football atmosphere back in grounds up and down the country, as oppose to attempting to be Italian for a couple of months until we realise we are fighting a battle we can't win.

Anyone who thinks this flare fad will last any longer than a month or two is deluded, authorties will handing out massive bans before long, and I know the bloke at Blackpool got away with it, he's very lucky, as normally it's not hard to catch someone with a flare, the mass red flames tend to give them away.

James where did you hear that the Ipswich lot got caught?

Was chatting to an Ipswich lad I know last night and he was saying they all got done. Plus an Ipswich fan posted about it on SUSD too I think.

Not so awesome.

THREE Blackpool FC supporters have been banned from matches for three years after setting off flares during a derby match at Preston.

Red smoke billowed from the Kop stand at Deepdale during clash between Preston and Blackpool on February 13.

One youngster's face was burnt as the fans tried to put out the burning torches.

Stuart Parkinson, Kevin Holland and Ryan Lord have now been told to stay away from matches and pay a total of £1,290.

All three men were arrested and pleaded guilty to possessing a flare in the area of a designated sporting match.

Parkinson, of Midgeland Road, Blackpool, Lord, of Linden Avenue, Cleveleys, and Holland, 20, of Mayfair Road, Blackpool, have been banned from entering an area surrounding Bloomfield Road football ground for four hours before or after a football match.

They have also been banned from entering the Bloomfield and George pubs four hours either side of a match, or from going within two miles of any Blackpool FC away fixtures, for three years.

Parkinson was fined £350, Lord fined £290 and Holland fined £350. All three must pay £85 court costs and a £15 victim's surcharge.

Flares are great if you know how to use them, I'm surprised more dont let smoke fireworks off as there no flame. And if dropped I would imagine it would be harder to find out who set it off.

Agree with this. Whoever did it at our game obviously knew what they were doing, whereas from the video footage I've seen of Blackpool-Preston it doesn't look like the lads were fully aware of what letting one off entails.

What a load of bollocks

a kids face was burnt because they tried to put them out?

i'm sorry but that has got to a be a lie

look at the pictures and the videos of it

no one is running around screaming trying to put them out

a flare burns for 60 fucking seconds

why try and put it out?

and sorry, but i dont know one kid in the entire world who's reaction to a flare getting lit is to immediately try and put it out.... with their face

sounds like they are trying to make it sound worse than it actually is

when you light a flare and hold it properly, your hand is no more than 6 inches from the actual fire bit

if you lit a flare and just held it NO ONE WOULD GET HURT

oh well, looks like the revolution is over

i'll sit back down again now

Yeah this sounds like bollocks to me. Having been to Blackpool several times I can confirm that it's impossible to tell which women have been horribly disfigured in a childhood fire and which ones are just from Blackpool. Cleary been some kind of confusion here, was probably just a very ugly child.

You could say that about many things in life but things are not always done properly and the situation of a packed crowd and drunken participants

makes the odds of someone getting hurt greater.

It matters not how the kid was burnt, assuming that fact is true the point is they were hurt and it was a result of the flare - you can't simply dismiss that after all if you were hit by a car, by your judgement we could say never mind it wouldn't have happened if the car had been driven properly.

Swindon had one yesterday.

That was ridiculous though, in possibly the most wooden stand in the football league the guy decided to throw it about. Weapon.

Shit to drag this dinosaur up again but just been told that when the 3 Blackpool lads that set one off at Preston were in court, the defence argued that they didn't know it was illegal because Leicester fans had done one the week before and no one got arrested.

Some poor bastard has got to spend his saturdays going to Asda with his mum because of one of you cvnts.

Thats the problem, morons who don't know how to use them.

And of course we don't get morons at football matches so that's ok then.

Sorry to drag this up again

For now.

The fact that he's being cocky enough to reply to their letter pointing out the irony of their own advertising makes me wonder though. Probably not his wisest move and I, personally, would giggle if they reconsidered their decision as a result.

Surely that just says he got a letter from Arsenal? Doesn't say what he's going to get/got from the plod. Football banning orders are a different thing from the bans clubs dish out themselves.
