Leicester City Away Fans

Do you think all this animosity would suddenly disappear if those that currently stand were forced to sit?

You can't change people's views or attitudes by forcing them to behave in a way that they feel is wrong and discriminatory. Our history is full of situations were people have had no choice but to show public disobedience, and let's face it 1000s of people stand at sporting events all over the country without any problem in order to generate change.

It's a bad and discriminatory law/regulation that is causing problems rather than solving them.

Oh and other peaceful ways have been tried and are being tried but they fall on deaf ears.

And alienating fellow city fans is the answer?

I think not!

I've said it before and I'll say it again, a good percentage, probably just under half of our fans, are idiots. There's the get drunk and turn in to knob head's sectiom. There's the ring Radio Leicester and spout endless crap after games section. There's the amazingly fickle section, the list goes on...

As I said in a previous post both sides of the argument are guilty of intransigence it just needs a bit of give and take but in this me, me, me society we've ended up with it makes it more difficult.

I still feel enforcing the sitting regulation would not resolve the issue and fellow fans would still be alienated by the attitude of those being forced to sit who would undoubtedly find another means of expressing their anger at the regulation. When you think that some fans are offended by singing and a bit of exuberance it's not going to go away.

Surely all we need to do to solve this problem is get relegated again? More stadiums with terracing means you lot can jump about singing while us mature types can spread out with our tea and prawn sandwiches.

And best of all, the football was a lot more entertaining. Everyones happy.

This thread makes me a saaaaad panda.

Yes I wanted to start a non divisive thread, a safe place where fans could come together and be friends. Welcome sad Panda.

The authorities simple can not allow areas of the stadium to become de facto standing areas, that goes against all current thinking and regulation.

Really? That was one of the recommendations of the Taylor Report, funnily enough. Taylor LJ recognised that standing was an important part of the game, and that fans should be allowed to stand in their seats. Admittedly, he did think that eventually the standers would come to love all seater stadia, but hey ho, you can't have everything.

As for his kid having a go at me, saying "why are you still singing? We're 2-0 down." I absolutely despair.

If you'd turned round and had a go at them for not singing, you would be slated and no doubt the subject of a Moan In rant.

I can accept that some fans don't want to join in the singing and chanting, but it's all part of the game. I would never dream of telling anyone how to support our team, but I draw the line at someone telling me! It's a good job I wasn't anywhere near you!

As for 'give and take', there is none.

Haven't you read what people have written in this thread? Me, for a start, as well as numerous others have said that if we are in an area where people are sitting, and there is no chance of moving, we sit down. Is that not give and take?

Both let off with cautions they're only crime was attempting to enter a sports venue pissed up.

Section 2(2) of the Sporting Events (Control of Alcohol etc) Act 1985. If they used that consistently and regularly, some games would be very light on numbers!

You can appeal a caution, get in touch with the FSF, they can advise on solicitors who deal with football issues.

One as I said was taken at h/t the may have been related to a few of us getting thrown out of a pub in Brum at 4ish and them reporting him and picked up at the ground. As he had it off with the bouncers in the street. All that for singing a few Momo Sylla and Richie Wellens songs.

The police we spoke to were pretty helpful after telling us where he'd been taken as we didn't want to leave him, was a good 2 miles from the ground to OB station so half went half went back. He returned to Leicester gone 11.

Got it pretty easy if that's the case, in my opinion. Just saying, like.

Stewards and coppers want fans that are in the "lads" category done for anything they can possibly get them for no matter how trivial, it's a fcking disgrace. Major factor in my permanent hiatus from the game over here.

That's just not true.

On the standing issue, i believe the club uses an electronic system for the turnstyles, so they know exactly how many people are in the ground, and if one area is at full capacity they will ensure no more people get in - this is something that would in itself do alot to prevent another Hillsborough. Standing is workable in this day and age, but i imagine it would cost the club money that they cannot spare. Even then, their hands are tied until the authorities decide to update the regulations in accordance with the technology and health and safety methods we have now to make it work. As a football fan i hope the sport does move forward in that respect and atmosphere at matches can be maintained.

If you want to stand, i would suggest standing at the match is not the way to go about it. Protesting with your attendance would be more worthwhile. Stop going to games, whilst signing every petition going for standing, etc. Once attendances fall, only then will the authorities spring into action, IMO.

You can't cross out support and accuse people of being merely followers due to lack of public vocality. Support is as much about money as it is about cheering the team. And they paid too.

It's all about you isn't it! lol

That comment is true for home matches but as the home team gets all the receipts can you please tell me what help any away supporter is if he just sits there and I am an OAP

Yeah sure, visual numbers. If you took away all the people sitting and all the people not chanting the sight of the away end would look weak in terms of support.

Also I have no problem with anybody that wants to stand, sing, chant, scratch their arse, kiss, drink alcohol, jump around......... I also partake in some of these activities!

I just think you can go to the football and not behave like an aggressive **** leaving all your home town fans around you in a shite atmosphere waiting for it to kick off.

End of.

No... on second thoughts I'm not gonna ask. :P

You saying I can't stand in L1 with my boyfriend ?

It's the sharing of a pink glove between you that might raise a few eyebrows!

So long as you're standing, singing, flicking Vs at the away fans and abusing the stewards you should be fine though. :D

*we need an 'arms wide open... come on in' smilie on here*

I think as reasonable people we both want pretty much the same thing, to be able to go to games and enjoy them in our own way. Sadly there are some on both sides of the divide that behave like pricks and spoil the occasion for everyone.

As fo changing our self obsessed me, me, me society, good luck...

Some people seem to struggle to distinguish wanting to stand and sing/shout (as I prefer) to acting like an abusive yob.

I dont want to be sat with the flask and blanket brigade but I dont want to put up with being knocked flying (like at QPR away) or having a bunch of cretinous teenage thugs slapping the kid next to me round the face repeatedly and pulling my Daughters hair either.

I prefer unreserved seating - I can go and stand with like minded ppl but choose who I stand next to as well!

I don't know how Cobbo bypasses this.

The Taylor report in not representative of current thinking or attitudes, which are all about control, compliance and 'gentrifying' football.

I noted in another post that some people who wish to stand do behave responsibly, but sadly far too many do not!

Isn't it? Taylor LJ raised the issue of using seating to control fans. He advocated its use. Some of his recommendations have been implemented, and the methods used stem directly from the report. I still see it as being very much relevant. He didn't just deal with what went on on that fateful afternoon back in 1989. He analysed many aspects of football that it was felt needed to be addressed and improved. Unfortunately many of the problems that he looked into and reported on are still very much a part and parcel of the game today, including beered up troglodytes, exercising their masculinity without thought or regard to anyone else in their presence, which funnily enough is what this topic started off being about!!

Baggies fan in peace!

Was just on your forum looking at what was being said after the match on friday and saw this thread. Our away support has also suffered from these happy clappers and this problem has been posted on our forum about a month ago, such a shame the one time you can go to a match and not have to worry about the usual people having a moan for standing now happens at away matches as well. The only was i feel it will get solved is by having unreserved seating and let the more vocal away fans at the top rows. Anyways, thought your support was average tbh for the numbers you brang down but not shocking as some of you say, what do you think of the baggies support ?

Hopefully one day the stand up sit down campaign will come into effect, you never know
