Age and experience has a lot to do with it

Do you reckon? I thought all that squealing in the Kop was coming from people in their 50s :giggle:

Well hopefully the campaign for safe standing areas in this country with succeed and then us animals can stand together and the nice friendly people can sit together

For me the thread was about peoples behaviour that was antagonistic, verbally threatening and inappropriately aggressive on a 1:1 basis.

It's interesting that we are back to discussing sitting and standing areas and those who chant and those who don't.

Neither of these things I have a problem with.

Exactly, people who wish to sit who end up in conflicts with standing fans, have every right to be as interested in the SUSD campaign as our type do. It'll be a great day for football when I don't have to put up with "Oi, siddan" when City have a rare moment of pressure (Sheff W away) after begrudgingly already making the effort to lower my enjoyment of most of the game for the sake of others, and the people saying "Oi, siddan" won't have any soccer thug ruining their match.

As it stands, words can't describe how much my heart sinks when the first whistle blows, and I hear everyone around me taking their seats, but even then, I was in with standers at Cardiff and had to move at half time because I was in with a bunch of moaning twats who thought it was hilarious to say "WOW! Leicester are playing FOOTBAAAAALL" every time we got a pass together. So ****** come in all forms.

Can't we all just support the team in our own way. If people want to sit down quietly and watch the game that doesn't make them ****** or part timers. And if someone wants to stand and sing (and swear at the away fans) that doesn't make them thugs and morons.

Just enjoy the match and don't worry what others are doing.

It wasn't a reply to your post that's why i didnt quote it

it was a reply to pretty much everyone else who posted

Being agressive to stewards for no reason is inexcusable, but the majority of the time there is a reason for it

As regards to aggression towards stewards, if you spend 20 years oppressing a set of people, even reasonable requests to them are going to be met with frustration. I'm not saying it's right, but there's now a strong "them vs us" mentality, a bit like frustration towards a traffic warden even if you know you're in the wrong.

In an ideal world yes but sitters argue or moan about standers and vice-versa, so no, not really.

It's not that easy though

If we had designated areas for it then it would be

If i go to my seat and then people aroun me sit, it pretty much ruins the game for me

just as it is if people want to sit and get surrounded by standers

so i have to worry because i dont want my day ruined by being poked in the back and being made to sit

Peterboro offer you both options :P

If I was keen on standing I'd get a season ticket at the back of L or K

If I want to stand at away games I ask for a ticket at the back.......

That's about the best you can do without official standing provision.

Officially designated unreserved 'seating' would help.

If you then want to stand get there early and get a place at the back, if you turn up at the last minute and end up at the front, and this seems to me to be part of the problem then you really shouldn't complain if you're surrounded by those that prefer or have to sit.

As for confrontations with stewards then I'll admit I've had a few of them but only when I feel it's warranted like when they'll ignore several rows of 'big' lads standing and pick on some little guy 5 seats in and have him ejected and even then still ignore 100s of others standing. If I encounter unfairness I'll moan.

Edit or as Nick says ask for a seat at the back, although nearly everytime I've done this even though it's been brought to my attention by the ticket office doesn't materialise.

That would be great, and on occasions I would be happy to join you all, I like to mix things up.

Another thing

Being brought up on traditional terracing I find it uncomfortable standing in areas where there are seats, it's a physical thing, I'm just not comfortable with it... :dunno:

That more dangerous that designated standing areas though, in my experience of unreserved seating anyway.

At Sheff Utd away this season that was unreserved seating, and everyone piled into the same area, IF there was a serge it would have been messy, people would be hurt and injured.

Safe standing, or designated standing area from what I understand would have rails infront but plots as you do seats, everyone has a plot minus a seat, Obviously this isn't an ideal option - it'd cost unthinkable amounts of money for clubs to do this in their stadiums, but unreserved seating is dangerous and i'm surprised it hasn't been banned really.

I have a season ticket in L1 and i always move to the back at away games

It doesnt always work though and gets annoying having to worry about stewards asking for tickets and then trying to make us move or being in someone eles's seat etc

I agree with DavieG though, unreserved seating is the best way to make everyone happy

then sitters can move to the front and standers to the back, but then some sitters will probably moan because they like sittiing higher up

i remember luton away a few years ago, it was unreserved seating and this guy and his wife went and sat on the very back row right next to the luton fans to the right, he got a bit annoyed when we wouldn't sit down and i could have sworn he bruised my back with his poking

It wouldn't be that difficult/expensive, removing the back of the seats and adding some metal railings.

Uncomfortable isn't the word, it's downright bloody painful; the back of the seat in front is always at the right height to do damage to my partially dislocated knee-cap!!

Wasn't that because the stewards didn't open up the entire stand until the last minute, and were cramming fans to go into particular blocks?

Possibly, I didn't know that was the case, but I must say I did notice a large amount of people in the area all of a sudden.

Yip. We were late in, and then got chatting on the concourse. We tried one of the gangways further along, and got told the section was closed, and we were directed to the centre of the stand, where we struggled to get down the aisle, let alone to a seat. Needless to say, there were plenty of seats right at the front, but then we saw that the end section had been opened, and we moved down there where there was some space and some standing.

Isn't every game unoficially unreserved seating anyway? Surely, If you want to stand move to the back and vice verse if you want to sit, this makes everybody happy, no?

No, because people are stupidly defensive of the numbers that form their ticket. So if you dare occupy a person's space, be prepared for an argument.

I wouldn't want to end up arguing with someone but surely, if they are at the back, they know they will be standing anyway. Also, if everybody stands you can fit more people into the rows rather than if everybody sits, no?

Its a strange one.

When you see (particulary lower down the divisions) a couple of hundred fans sharing a huge away end, do they group together like in other countries?....nope, they choose to distance themselves from their fellow fans and so you get a few to the left a few to the right a few at the front and a few at the back, the result? A terrible atmosphere, I've always found that odd.
