OriginalRobboFOX Posted 15 April 2010 Posted 15 April 2010 Myself and my fiancé can't decide. Help...
Jon the Hat Posted 15 April 2010 Posted 15 April 2010 We did. Made the whole thing feel much more real, personal and exciting. Knowing it was in fact she made everything from kicking to hiccups feel really special. Maybe it would have anyway but, "she is kicking!" sounds nicer than "it is kicking" or "the baby is kicking" to me. People argue it is nice to have the surprise, but trust me, having a new baby is plenty surprising enough.
Bellend Sebastian Posted 15 April 2010 Posted 15 April 2010 You might as well, so you can decorate and buy clothes and stuff like that without having to go down the neutral route. It's not like it's that big a surprise anyway - it's always one or the other
Fosse Boy Posted 15 April 2010 Posted 15 April 2010 You should do it, but you should make sure its initials are F.T. in honour of this forum when you name it.
leftsideoverhere Posted 15 April 2010 Posted 15 April 2010 I'd say no, only because the test isn't 100% guaranteed, and if you make plans and such like and then find out it was wrong you don't want to be 'disappointed' with your beautiful baby. Besides, babies are all the same shape (mostly) and don't care what colour their clothes are!
Daggers Posted 15 April 2010 Posted 15 April 2010 We were told without being asked in Colombia - the doctor just started talking about 'he' and 'him' and 'his'. In Ecuador, the doc asked if we wanted to know to which we replied in the affirmative. Then we discovered how the language barrier can throw up the odd weird translation as, in broken English but a broad smile, he pointed at the scan and declared our new baby had a "beautiful cunt".
Bellend Sebastian Posted 15 April 2010 Posted 15 April 2010 Those paedo foreign doctors. I hope the fact that you were in their country didn't stop you from trying to send them back from where they came from

Smiffy Posted 15 April 2010 Posted 15 April 2010 Ours is due Sept 24th and we're going to find out on Monday. We're both planning type people and like Jon the Hat said, a new baby will be surprise enough. When is "it" due?
acooling08 Posted 15 April 2010 Posted 15 April 2010 Depends if you care what sex it is really. If your not bothered you might as well find out.
FoxyPV Posted 15 April 2010 Posted 15 April 2010 Don't find out, it makes the birth even more special.
AoWW Posted 15 April 2010 Posted 15 April 2010 Depends if you care what sex it is really. If your not bothered you might as well find out. Oh dear. Presumably, based on your theory, if you are bothered then you're best to leave it until the day to find out the bad news, rather than have several months of feeling gutted?!! What I want to know is whether they did ask, or not?
lou Posted 15 April 2010 Posted 15 April 2010 To be honest this is a very personal decision that no one else can help you make?! I didnt know what my first 2 babies were but asked for the 3rd as I had one of each and really didnt mind but was short on money at that stage of my life and it helped to have a good idea what she was so I could get stuff in and plan which room she would be going into with the older ones etc, they say its not 100% as a disclaimer but certainly by the 16 week scan they have a good enough view of "things" to be very accurate.

We never asked but for our first the nurse kept referring to her and she which annoyed me a bit.
Tony Pine Posted 15 April 2010 Posted 15 April 2010 Depends if you care what sex it is really. If your not bothered you might as well find out. this is some crazy man logic right here

That's given me a smile! Seriously, it'd be nice to know. Not going to ruin the 'surprise.' It's a boy or a girl at the end of the day, it'd only be a surprise if it were a puppy. I heard that somewhere. I didn't make it up. I'm a fraud.
Sparky Posted 15 April 2010 Posted 15 April 2010 Why you worried Robbo ? Its not yours its Clive Platts
Shrenchel Posted 19 April 2010 Posted 19 April 2010 He's obviously too shocked to say. Maybe it was neither. That happened to a mate of mine, they had to make it one out of a peperami.
