He's pushing himself to get fit and should be fit for next season someone said on her.

Never seen him play above League 1 level when fit.

Quite why City fans rate Tunchev so highly is a mystery to me. They seem to have a fetish for foreign names when it comes to rating folk.

In fact anyone foreign gets special consideration - shit or otherwise.

Hell, I can still remember people calling for Kaebi, Laczko, various other foreigners including a so-called goalkeeper at the time then, later, we had The Cormorant (one goal in how many), honestly the list is endless if I could be bothered looking.

Tunchev is a stylish footbaler whose main asset is his calm, cultured distribution, his reading of situations and his ability to get a block in.

Against that he's never marked close enough for my liking, was taken apart by the movement of Kevin Phillips in a friendly against Birmingham and looks vulnerable both to the physical demands of English football as his injuries might suggest and to being run at.

But no matter ... just like Pearson, who finished fifth and, with 61 league goals, produced a basically cagey side that never got us near the total of 75 goals I said we'd need for automatic promotion at the start of the season, Tunchev's somehow Premiership quality in some people's eyes.

Not like you to have a rant about foreigners coming over here and doing our jobs.

What is the need for that last sentence? We have, in case you have ommitted it from your selective memory, just come up from league one, and made it to the play offs in our first season back. When did we play that friendly against Birmingham? Was it in 2008, when Tunchev had just come to the country and was settling into the team, or in 2009, when he was injured? One long term injury doesn't make a player vulnerable to the demands of english football, it was a bad tackle, he'd never had a big injury like that before. When fryatt broke his jaw, did you suggest that he should move to a softer league?

We had a similar problem with Danny Swailes.

He had a long term injury after being a complete rock in our side. He was not the same player when he came back, so I wouldn't get all your hopes up.

It wasn't even a tackle, it was just one of those injuries. So how Thracian can say he's not up to the physicality of the English game is beyond me.

Exactly! If flipping Jeffrey Bruma or Claudio Hoban or another foreign academy player got a long term injury, I somehow doubt he would be bemoaning their lack of physicality.

lol Pipe down trolling. Whether or not you think Tunchev is one of our best players, he clearly proved himself as a capable and quality defender ("Premiership standard!" I'd agree with you is a slightly bold claim) but Kaebi, Casino Jimmy and Laczko? People just wanted to see them play - there's a clear difference. Nobody thought they actually were class and the few that did rave about them were more doing so out of a sense of some cult humour or irony.

He could potentially be a great player for us, buit that's it.............potentially!!

He was astute in L1, but there's no proof of him as yet that he is champ class, although he does have the attributes!! I'm not one for bum chuming potentials, we all will have to just wait and see!!

I agree with this. I need to see him play at Championship level if we can ever get him fit. He put some solid games at League 1 before his injury that seems a long time ago now. People on here seem to suck his dick a bit too much.

Only saw the Peterborough game, but he looked good enough in the half that he played.

Hossein Kaebi, now there was a quality player that had me wanking with joy when his signing was confirmed.

One thing i remember about the signing was when Martin Allen said he had to smuggle him in the country to keep other clubs away from him!!! :giggle:

I saw Tunchev play about a dozen times, all of course in League 1.

To my eyes he appeared to cruise through games with something in reserve at all times, it was this that suggested to me (and perhaps others) that he would be able to make the step up to Championship football with some ease and quite possibly make a decent fist of it in the Premier League.

Of course this is all speculation and purely an opinion that can not be proved one way or the other but from what I saw I thought Tunchev would have no problem stepping up a level, possibly even two.

Unfortunately none of this matters much as we have absolutely no idea how he will play after such a long and difficult injury even assuming he returns fully fit. Personally I feel that if he can get close to the standard he set back in 2008/9 then he would be an obvious starter.

I have some sympathy for your 'dig' at Pearson's tactics. We played a solid cautious style with our attacking play revolving around the percentage driven, direct style that gained us promotion the year before. Personally I think Pearson expected the Championship to be tougher than it was and went for a continuation of tried and tested methods to ensure a reasonably successful mid table finish.

Also I think our early season results surprised Pearson and increased expectations substantially but when the Howard / Fryatt spearhead became more and more blunt mid season he struggled to make changes.

Having said all that, we did get a playoff spot in our first season and that alone makes Pearson pretty much untouchable.

well i know tunchev and trust me he is doing everything he can to get fit in pre season including the tour away in....................................????sorry cant say lol but i can confirm tunchev will be ready for the new season and he will be as good as ever and raring to go,its good a lot of people rate tunchev as hes better than some of the players we have so to have him and hobbs together will be awesome,

Because he was able to play wisely to the referee - always tugging and pulling at players and rarely conceding a foul...

Because he always seemed to have time on the ball - as often happens with class defenders...

Because his positioning was always good - when was he ever skinned?...

Because his tackles were hard but well timed...
