Fosse Boy Posted 12 June 2010 Posted 12 June 2010 Which World Cup tournament was your favourite and why? For me it's a toss up between France '98 (the first tournament I remember, just remember being ridiculously excited about England as a kid) and Japan/Korea '02, purely for seeing Muzzy do so well with Turkey. Sort of wish I was old enough to have seen Italia '90 because of England's run (and a squad full of characters like Gazza), Platt's goal and obviously World in Motion too.
Narborough_fox Posted 12 June 2010 Posted 12 June 2010 2002. Remember watching England-Brazil in school and being the only person happy after a Brazil win.
Edmund Posted 12 June 2010 Posted 12 June 2010 Switzerland 1954. I remember it like it was yesterday.
ScouseFox Posted 12 June 2010 Posted 12 June 2010 2002. Purely because of the surreal feeling of waking up and the first thing you did was watch football (and miss school).
dandannieldanok Posted 12 June 2010 Posted 12 June 2010 2002 as far as World cups go. If you were to include Euros in it, then I'd say Euro 2004 trumps all the tournaments I've personally seen.
Corky Posted 12 June 2010 Posted 12 June 2010 1998 or 2002 were my favourites, didn't really get into the 2006 one.
Fosse Boy Posted 12 June 2010 Author Posted 12 June 2010 2002 as far as World cups go. If you were to include Euros in it, then I'd say Euro 2004 trumps all the tournaments I've personally seen. If we're including Euros then Euro 96 is the first tournament I remember. Again, it was an England squad with bags of character who you desperately wanted to succeed. I just don't get that vibe with tournaments these days. Actually 08 was fantastic because the fact England weren't in it meant that everyone in this country could just sit back and enjoy some cracking football without the media hype and all that crap.
LCFC-ARAB Posted 12 June 2010 Posted 12 June 2010 2002. Purely because of the surreal feeling of waking up and the first thing you did was watch football (and miss school). This, for the same reason waking up and turning your tv on to Denmark v Senegal at 8am was awesome loved it
Guest Bilo Posted 12 June 2010 Posted 12 June 2010 Euro 96 was my favourite ever tournament by a mile. Absolutely buzzing from start to finish with Gascoigne humiliating Scotland, Psycho's penalty and the pasting of the Dutch. No tournament has come close to that since. Maybe 2010 will?
Jonezy Posted 12 June 2010 Posted 12 June 2010 Euro 92 in Sweden was without a doubt the tournament with the best teams and with the biggest amount of absolute top talent with the most deserved and justified winner ever......
Matt Posted 12 June 2010 Posted 12 June 2010 World Cup - My favourite was 98' the first one I remember the excitement around it. I know you asked about favorite World Cup but i'm going to mention Euro 96' aswell, the first time I really noticed and got intrested in football and the first tournament I remember, and Gazza's goal
Chairman of the Bored Posted 12 June 2010 Posted 12 June 2010 World Cup 1970. Mexico. The best team ever: Brazil. The best game ever: West Germany 3-4 Italy in the semi-final. The performance by Brazil in the final against Italy was astounding, I'd say the best team performance I have seen in 43 years of watching the game. Sheer magic.
DB11 Posted 12 June 2010 Posted 12 June 2010 I have a feeling 2010 will end up being my favourite and eclipsing 2002. 2002 as far as World cups go. If you were to include Euros in it, then I'd say Euro 2004 trumps all the tournaments I've personally seen. Exactly this.
Fosse Boy Posted 12 June 2010 Author Posted 12 June 2010 I've got no Irish connections whatsoever but I really enjoyed watching their progress in '02. Particularly remember enjoying Keane's injury time equaliser against Germany.
shen Posted 12 June 2010 Posted 12 June 2010 Euro 92 in Sweden was without a doubt the tournament with the best teams and with the biggest amount of absolute top talent with the most deserved and justified winner ever...... Of course 1998 was a fun tournament too, even if the final was anti-climactic. Was too young for the 1986 World Cup though, unfortunately. From what I've seen and heard it was a classic!

From what I've seen and heard it was a classic! I was a little 8-year old in 86, and to this day my mother still remember and teasing me about, how I was crying my eyes out, when Spain mauled us 5-1 in the second round.....
BoneDog Posted 12 June 2010 Posted 12 June 2010 1986 and 1990 are my favourites. The heartbreak in 1990 was immense, but it was great entertainment. 1994 was pretty special too. Ray Houghton scoring against Italy sent me wild for about 2 days. One of my favourite World Cup moments of all time is when Gordon Strachan scored against West Germany (1986?). His celebration was a joyous moment. He was absolutely buzzin and tried to get over the advertising board! I did that celebration enough times at school. Legendary moment
Jay Posted 12 June 2010 Posted 12 June 2010 Italia 90 for so many reasons enagland and Gazza, Baggio still baggio, toto Schilaci, cameroon, Roger Milla, Nessun Dorma, Klinsman outrageous diving, the ridiculous fouls commited by the Argentinians
Guest NGoloMode Posted 12 June 2010 Posted 12 June 2010 World Cup 2002 is my favourite tournament. First one i really took interest in.
BoneDog Posted 13 June 2010 Posted 13 June 2010 I just watched this video and the memories have come flooding back, '86 was my favourite. Tigana and Josimar I can still remember lying in front of the tele watching with a glass of Kiaora - a boogy boogy boogy boo. Adora
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 13 June 2010 Posted 13 June 2010 Aussies can lose every game (we are likely to) but i'll still say this is my all time fav
