davieG Posted 15 June 2010 Posted 15 June 2010 Made me smile:- Rob Green has trained today and in 3 hours he had 4,000 shots fired at him and did not concede a single goal. Tomorrow he and Emile will train with the rest of the squad...
Maybes Posted 15 June 2010 Posted 15 June 2010 Hopefully we should make a mockery of a poor Algerian side. Should be looking for a clean sheet and a few goals.

Jon the Hat Posted 16 June 2010 Posted 16 June 2010 I would like to think we will win this comfortably, but having seen North Korea hold Brazil to 2-1 anything could happen. This is a very weird world cup.
marbelladave Posted 16 June 2010 Posted 16 June 2010 I would like to think we will win this comfortably, but having seen North Korea hold Brazil to 2-1 anything could happen. This is a very weird world cup. Certainly is! Having seen minnows like DPR and New Zealand display better organisation, a better shape and more determination than England, unfancied sides such as Japan and Ghana displaying more attacking verve than England and even the woeful Greece showing better ball retention than England I think wierd is just about right. A year or so ago we saw England display all the above qualities (even our shape was decent, if rather lop sided) and qualify with some ease, on Saturday we resorted to hoofball of the worst kind against a hopeless and over rated USA. It was just like watching City in the bad days under Holloway, Heskey was just Steve Howard with a tan, and even less of a goal threat.
StanSP Posted 16 June 2010 Posted 16 June 2010 Gareth Barry will start on Friday, Capello has told BBC.
LCFC-ARAB Posted 16 June 2010 Posted 16 June 2010 Never thought i'd ever get to see England v Algeria so celebrating by having a party at mine! Cous cous and beer for everyone! i think 3-1 england but please can we score first! i'd be happy with that!
RowlattsFox Posted 16 June 2010 Posted 16 June 2010 2-0 win I think, both goals coming in second half. Going to be more nervous than it needs to be I think.
AyewJoking Posted 16 June 2010 Posted 16 June 2010 Gareth Barry will start on Friday, Capello has told BBC. Either Capello is just uncomfortable in front of a camera or he is seriously weird. Maybe it is cunning genius from a master tactician, disguising his true plan by acting like a disabled. Vuvuzelas from the Chile match have honestly given me a headache
Guest DavidJCW Posted 16 June 2010 Posted 16 June 2010 We need to put in a good performance and show we mean business now... the 1-1 draw with the US wasn't a surprise and I even predicted it. However, this game is massive. A poor side who were woeful against Slovenia... we HAVE to take advantage... and I think we will. 2-0 England.

Cous cous and beer for everyone! i think 3-1 england but please can we score first! i'd be happy with that! I think you are selling yourself and your team short! England appear to be in some disarray, a solid performance, a decent game plan and you could well be in with a chance... Let England have the ball at the back, start pressing as they get to halfway. Keep it tight and they will get bored and hoof the ball back to you. Try and counter with a bit of pace, targeting our leaden center backs or the space on your left where Johnson should be, but won't. Get at them early before they settle, play the ball over the top or down the channels and get your quick forwards to chase, England's jitters will soon turn into full blown panic. The world is (as they say) your mousetrap! (© A. Daley)
Asha Posted 17 June 2010 Posted 17 June 2010 i think 3-1 england but please can we score first! i'd be happy with that! I really think if England went behind they would really struggle to come back and win the game. Not only because Algeria would probably put absolutely everything behind the ball (understandably so), but also because I just don't see England creating hundreds of opportunities.

Blimey one draw against USA and suddenly we're vulnerable to Algeria......what next? Honduras to beat Spain because they're now in disarray after one bad result? We didn't play well but we're still favourites to top this group and shouldn't have any difficulty in breaking these down and cruising home 2 or 3-0. If we get a goalscoring threat in alongside Rooney and have someone competent on our left-flank then we'll be fine.
leicesterfox86 Posted 17 June 2010 Posted 17 June 2010 England cannot lose this game or Capello's give his team a warm welcome back in the changing room Anyway, England have the best team, the best players, so I hope World Cup betting tips are right this time

That's laughable. We should/could have easily four goals last Saturday - all good chances, poorly executed at the crunch. You'd be lucky if the teams you mentioned had four shots on goal (I wonder why Iignored this forum for a few days after the result).
Corky Posted 17 June 2010 Posted 17 June 2010 We should win this, we aren't in disarray or anything like that, six points very much to play for. If we fail to win tomorrow then we are in crisis, but let's not fear the worst shall we?

Not just one game, however woeful that performance was, but nine months of steady decline... Since the Croatia game England have been marking time, hoping to take that XI and that form into the finals. There has been no attempt to improve that team, not even an attempt to freshen things up and a tough English season has done the rest. Crocked players, Barry, King, Ferdinand, Joe Cole out of form players Carrick, Gerrard, Walcott, Heskey plus Rooney and Lampard both of whom look burnt out. Capello has a hell of a lot of work to do to bring any semblance of quality to tomorrow's game. Sure it is 'only' Algeria so anything but a win would be a huge disappointment, but we really need a good performance and I am really beginning to worry whether we have such a performance in us. Come on England, prove me wrong...

You'd be lucky if the teams you mentioned had four shots on goal (I wonder why Iignored this forum for a few days after the result). Are you seriously suggesting any of the points I made are incorrect? Our passing was awful, ball retention non-existant, organisation none and this against a poor USA whose World Ranking is, frankly, ludicrous. I accept that the teams I mention did not get much on goal but that was not the point I was making. Anyway, against the mighty USA , I recall 3 decent chances. Gerrard's goal and the misses from Heskey and SWP. Yes we should have won on the night but whatever you think the score should have been our performance was poor overall and woeful in those areas I highlighted.
