The Doctor Posted 18 June 2010 Posted 18 June 2010 This. Scotland instead! I would rather not qualify than struggle and get humiliated by minor teams on a World stage. nah, we stick to being humiliated in the qualifying stages - although i think we've a real chance of reaching euro 2012 if i've got the groups right (spain and czech republic the main contenders) Czech republic's team is past it and as switzerland have shown it is possible to beat spain, anyway back to the WC - still at least it means the song "just don't come home too soon" will never see the light of day again.
Dames Posted 18 June 2010 Posted 18 June 2010 that really does baffle - as good as lampard is for chelsea i struggle to remember 1 performance for england that matches the ones he puts in a club level. Yet no-where in the world there has been a call to drop him from the line up (Besides a few angry fans). He was shit in 2006 and he's got worse this time around. Who cares how he plays for Chelsea drop him now or we will end up paying the price for sticking with under performing big names again.
Narborough_fox Posted 18 June 2010 Posted 18 June 2010 Defo, real chance of Euro Spain look shaky and we beat Czech Republic in Levein's first game. Good omen's.
Asha Posted 18 June 2010 Posted 18 June 2010 And no, I don't give a fuck that Wales aren't in it. Understandable really, bound to get used to it after all these years. This. Scotland instead! I would rather not qualify than struggle and get humiliated by minor teams on a World stage. Now you know that's not true - obviously just sour grapes because Scotland aren't in it.
marbelladave Posted 18 June 2010 Posted 18 June 2010 Past 2 games? How about whole England career. He gets scapegoated because he's been appalling for ages, the likes of Rooney, Lampard, Gerrard who have been absolute dogshite this world cup have produced for England in the past. There's the difference, it's not that subtle. That's actually rubbish, sorry. When exactly have Rooney, Gerrard and Lampard delivered for England when it mattered? They haven't and now probably never will. The myth of England's "World Class Players" is the root of England's problems, forget club performances, our 'top, top', players all consistently under perform at international level when it matters and it is a nonsense to single out and blame individuals, especially those outside the core group of the 'untouchables'. Tonight was another classic, chronic underperformance by Terry, Cole, Lampard, Gerrard and Rooney, yet who gets substituted, Lennon, Heskey and Barry. You couldn't make it up! Capello is slipping into McClaranism, and it is not pretty!
Mee Posted 18 June 2010 Posted 18 June 2010 What did Rooney say? I didnt catch it 'Nice to get boo'd by your own fans' I think mate.
Narborough_fox Posted 18 June 2010 Posted 18 June 2010 Understandable really, bound to get used to it after all these years. Now you know that's not true - obviously just sour grapes because Scotland aren't in it. Used to it look at Scotland truthfully and apart from Euro 1008 qualifying when we played out of our skin we have been shocking.

Asha Posted 18 June 2010 Posted 18 June 2010 Used to it look at Scotland truthfully and apart from Euro 1008 qualifying when we played out of our skin we have been shocking. Yes but saying you're glad you're not in the World Cup? Ridiculous. Surely it is every fan's dream for their country.

They've delivered in qualifying to get us here, yes they haven't delivered in major tournaments but they're the best of a bad bunch to pick from. As for the substitutions, yes there is the element of the 'chosen man' syndrome, but the reasoning to keep them on is that you know there is something in them that in the space of a second they can do something the likes of Lennon, Heskey and Barry can't. I'm not trying to defend them, they were all woeful and as I've proposed in the other thread, I'd drop all of the aforementioned 'world-class' players.
Smudge Posted 18 June 2010 Posted 18 June 2010 lol lol And no, I don't give a fook that Wales aren't in it. Wouldn't pay to really, would it Finners?

marbelladave Posted 18 June 2010 Posted 18 June 2010 Finally. Someone who makes a bit of sense. I've been making this kind of sense for years, it's not just hindsight... :trumpet: England have been picking the same 'top, top' players for at least 5 years and in that period they have never come close to producing what they produce for their clubs. The 'untouchables' (© Schteve McClaran) have formed a cancerous clique at the heart of the England setup, looking after their own egos and careers, shit if you are an 'untouchable' you do not even have to be fit, or selected to be an integral part of the squad. What is perhaps even worse is that this clique seems to resist the introduction of new players in favour of 'associate' members such as Glen Johnson and Joe Cole. Downing was the first such player, routinely ignored by Cashley and Gerrard he found it excruciatingly hard to make an impression and his own lack of confidence did the rest. Similarly in the brief time Adam Johnson got to play he was given no support from the senior players and both Ashley Young and Walcott were dumped after incuring the wrath of Cashley and Rooney specifically.
iBleedLeicesterColours Posted 18 June 2010 Posted 18 June 2010 The game was pi ss poor, think its been summed up pretty much by the comments above. What Rooney said was disgraceful. You play crap, get booed and then lay into your fans, he has money coming out of his ears so wouldnt realize how angry and dissapointed the thousands of fans that have spent thousands of pounds of hard earned money to be there and see that shyte. The pressure is on now.
AyewJoking Posted 18 June 2010 Posted 18 June 2010 Cant get any worse. I dont give a fúck if we go out at the group stages now. Lampard, Gerrard should both retire from international football after this tournament. Let someone else try. Capello appears to have lost the players respect so he too should go when Englands tournament ends
easilee Posted 18 June 2010 Posted 18 June 2010 Just heard some English fan got into the England dressing room and confronted Beckham. He should have kicked the fook out of Rooney.

Lampard, Gerrard should both retire from international football after this tournament. Let someone else try. Lampard should be dropped, he is an embarrassment.

They certainly did not deliver in qualifying for 2008 and the recent qualifying campaign was so easy it only required a disciplned performance and under Capello they managed that. No, the record shows us that when it matters the 'big' players go missing, they should have been dumped years ago. If other countries can make decent teams out of players who would not 'get a game' for the EPL's 'top 4' then maybe it is time we did the same.
iBleedLeicesterColours Posted 18 June 2010 Posted 18 June 2010 Just heard some English fan got into the England dressing room and confronted Beckham. He should have kicked the fook out of Rooney. Obviously a willy puller then..
dandannieldanok Posted 18 June 2010 Posted 18 June 2010 To be fair to the Sun, it should have been "easy", it should have been "the best group since the beatles". England only have themselves to blame, we outplayed ourselves, and have not been outplayed by either USA or Algeria. I think any other group and we'd probably be out by now.
Narborough_fox Posted 18 June 2010 Posted 18 June 2010 Yes but saying you're glad you're not in the World Cup? Ridiculous. Surely it is every fan's dream for their country. I would love to be in the world cup I'm just saying I'm not Sucking Sour grapes, just saying that Scotland were poor and I would rather be humiliated in just Europe than on the world stage. England were so good in qualifying and have just got to familiar they need to change it bring the changes in and it is sorted out!
