Mee Posted 26 June 2010 Posted 26 June 2010 Germany to win 5 nil But seriously, i think we can do it. I think if we get an early lead, we could hold them out and use our experience against them.
Tilley Posted 26 June 2010 Posted 26 June 2010 James Johnson Upson Terry A. ColeMilner Barry Lampard GerrardDefoe Rooney Joe Cole to feature of the bench. 2-1 win in normal time, Rooney and Lampard to finally score. Cannot wait for this, should be a good day.
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 26 June 2010 Posted 26 June 2010 Same team as against Slovenia I hope, with Joe Cole coming off the bench if we are struggling. Really looking forward to this, I am only old enough to remember us playing Germany twice, when we beat them 1-0 in Euro 2000 and the 5-1 game, so either one of those scorelines again will do me!
Salieri Posted 26 June 2010 Posted 26 June 2010 Think we could all do with something to cheer about in light of recent events... C'MON ENGLAND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Guest Bilo Posted 26 June 2010 Posted 26 June 2010 I am making no prediction for this game as I genuinely have no clue. Indeed, with what's going on with the club I'm not sure I even care that much any more. Perhaps the game will provide some light relief. Germany looked awesome against Australia, albeit a very poor 10 man Australian side, taking them apart with stereotypical German efficiency and ruthlessness. Since then though, they've looked rather atypical Germans. A poor display against a rather limited Serbia, including a highly uncharacteristic missed penalty and wastefulness in front of goal showed their vulnerability. This continued into the match against the Ghanaians, where they looked nervous and porous at the back until a Ozil thunderbolt settled it. The past two games have fallen rather short of the archetypal German nerveless efficient displays so associated with their national team. England on the other hand appear to have done things the other way around. They looked average against the USA but were unlucky to concede a howler to level the scores. Nevertheless, Beckenbauer was right to call the display against the US a triumph of hoofing over football. The Algeria game was much worse. One of the worst performances by England in recent finals history, many fans feared that England would be joining the French on the way home. Yet the Slovenia game was different again, England playing some great stuff at times, defending resolutely, retaining the ball well and Rooney looking dangerous and downright unlucky not to register a goal. I would say that England's experience gives them the edge. Gerrard, Lampard, Terry and Rooney in particular have all done this before for their clubs in pressure cooker atmospheres, which is something the youthful Germans lack. It's a tough one to call. Wish England all the best, they are capable against these dangerous opponents.
purpleronnie Posted 26 June 2010 Posted 26 June 2010 My big concerns are:- 1. We'll do something stupid, give away a stupis penalty, someone will get sent off, concede a last minute goal, lose on penalties. 2. The ref will award germany a pen that wasnt, he'll send an england player off when it was a dive. 3.The mental strength of english players will fail when it really counts. No-one seems to mention strength of mind but its a massive part of the game. But even though my head says germany will win, its not the german team of old, they are very good but not great, we can be great but very rarely show it. Its just possible we can win but one thing I know I'm going to be very very nervous.
Samilktray Posted 26 June 2010 Posted 26 June 2010 This German team was massively overrated by the media after beating a god awful Australia team, there no better than us. 3-0 win for us.
Sparky Posted 26 June 2010 Posted 26 June 2010 Tomorrow will be one of those days you will remember for the rest of your life, please England do us proud.

lcfc_jme Posted 27 June 2010 Posted 27 June 2010 Exceptionally nervous. Still, can see England winning unfortunately and my prediction is a 3-1 win, with Rooney finally scoring, England's midfield finally arriving and the defence living up to it's "world-class" billing. Cue National media overdrive and Monday headlines discussing world-cup wins and potential knighthoods. This is the last I'll say on the matter and the last time I'll post here for a while should the Germans, as I expect, get beat.

I agree with him, I fancy a win tomorrow and some good football, and then, just when you think we might have a chance of winning it after all... well we all know what happens next as it's happened time after time.
BoneDog Posted 27 June 2010 Posted 27 June 2010 The referee will probably decide this with an atrocious decision! It's gonna be tense, that's all I can predict.
Tilley Posted 27 June 2010 Posted 27 June 2010 Need to keep our heads and stay disciplined today, the referee, according to Sky Sports News is card happy.
Mee Posted 27 June 2010 Posted 27 June 2010 Apparently in the press conference Capello said that he knows his 10, and their may be one change. Only one i can think of is King in
