If we played football into feet as we would under Sousa, and I can't believe I'm saying this, but DJ could be fvcking lethal up front with Fryatt. Arguably the main reason for Campbell being desperate to leave us is now residing at the KC Stadium, and Campbell proved at Blackpool that he can really hurt defences at this level when willing.

I think DJ and Fryatt would do well. DJ should be given a fair chance upfront with Fryatt.

:scarf: Feed the Deej and he will score

I think DJ is pretty resentful of Leicester so even if our play would suit him, I can't see a future for him here.

Yeah I think things are too far down the line for both parties, I'd be amazed if he wanted to be here new manager or not.

Just saw the Mercury had a headline "Portugal legend set to be City boss" or something like that... and I couldn't for the life of me think who they meant!?!

I'm guessing that'll be Sousa then!

I really hope it's not sousa based on what the swansea fans are saying, it appears none of them are overly worried or gutted about him leaving. Saying that, no one on here seems bothered about pearson going, football fans confuse me.

It seems to be a combination of negative football and the fact that he's been unsettled at the Liberty Stadium for a while that the Swansea fans aren't too fussed about. They certainly seem resigned to him going rather than calling bullshit anyway, which may or may not add to it. Not too sure about negative football to be fair, Swansea didn't seem particularly negative when they played us and Jason Scotland was always going to be a big pair of scoring boots to fill. Doesn't really change my view that he'd be an excellent appointment.

From Sousa's perspective, if the opportunity is there to come to us I think he'd jump at it. At the moment we have a squad very similar to Swansea's in mindset - tight defence, few goals. The moulding has practically already been done by Pearson, so I'd guess if Sousa came in it'd pretty much be a continuation of what was left before.

Last season we were masters at grinding out the 1-0 victory, but to do this you have to have a wedge of luck and that bit of quality at the right moment. We've undoubtedly got the defence to suit Sousa - comfortably one of the best in the division - but Swansea's woeful record in front of goal last year worries me. Granted we've got more quality up front than they have, and that's why we ended up in the play-offs and they didn't.

If Sousa came in it'd be another case of us being hard to beat and looking for the slim victory every time. Doing it all over again would be no mean feat depending on what firepower we brought in this summer, of which his track record is questionable to say the least. I'm reserving full judgement for now but at the moment I'm unsure about this.

Wow.

Paulo Sousa - 4/11

Skybet have to know something surely?!

They wouldn't be 4/11 just because many people had bet on it, tbh I can't really imagine it'd be a huge betting market.

surely too early for anything to be that far known though...

plus sky didnt even know pearson was leaving till way after on here did they, hardly seems like they got good inside information ??

I don't think they were particularly negative; it's a combination of them playing with one up top and having a lot of the ball in defensive areas. They do overplay in their defensive third.

With ball players like Hobbs and Tunchev in place, that'd probably suit us just fine and make us a very tough unit to break down.

I'm not going to pass judgement on any unknown manager until I've seen them for six months anyway, i did that with pearson and looked an idiot :P

If he endorses a passing game then I'm all for it, as long as it's successful I'll be happy, it'll also get Mandaric's foreign juices flowing surely, sousa likes to bring in the odd spaniard doesn't he?

He certainly does and has made some good finds before as well so far as I'm aware. Not too sure about how Wayne Brown would react to Sousa taking an English manager's job though. :giggle:

We are pretty identical to Swansea. In fact, I think we are a small step above them since they were pretty inept in front of goal whilst we had 3 players who were into double figures. Defensively, both sides are much of a muchness.

I think Sousa struggled to find a replacement for Jason Scotland. He was a big part of their the Martinez team that were excellent. We have Fryatt and Gallagher who can score, plus King who got 11 goals from midfield, so we got the basis covered. If Sousa comes and instils a passing rhythm to our game and find a replacement for Waghorn, then I would be over the moon.

I'm actually warming to the idea of getting Sousa now.

Yeah these are pretty much exactly my feelings on the matter too.

Swansea, don't forget, were only in their second season in the division last year. Having lost not only a highly influential manager but their top scorer as well, they could have been forgiven for having an awful bout of second season syndrome. I think it's testament to Sousa's abilities that they actually came closer to the play-offs than they did under Martinez, in spite of those challenges. With our extra goal scoring options and a couple of shrewd signings, possibly from Spain and Portugal due to his knowledge of those leagues, we could continue to make progress.
