Stevosevic Posted 5 August 2010 Posted 5 August 2010 He's forgotten, which is why they are still talking about him...
foxoffderby Posted 5 August 2010 Posted 5 August 2010 Swansea fan in peace here. I honestly believe Mr Sousa spelt trouble for the Swans. He upset a few players in the last few months and he didnt even speak to our chairman towards the end of the season. 12 months ago we fought tooth and nail to keep Martinez. We let Sousa go happily without a whiff of asking for any compo despite the fact he was still contracted to us. What does that tell you. I got no ill feeling towards you Leicester guys and I hope for the genuine fans sake that you have a good season but my gut feeling is that you will be calling for his head by early next year if not before. When he came to Swans he promised everything - but delivered a very boring brand of football. Yes, we finished 7th but Christ was it boooooooooring to watch. He told us he had loads of european links with top clubs but didnt sign anyone of note - In fact a few panic signings like Shefki Kuqi were brought in and what a muppet he is. Anyway guys, good luck. Sousa is already a forgotten man in Swansea and we're all glad to see the back of him. For me its all about winning end of. The style etc is product of the win. Yes we would all like to play like Brazil but do you or us have those type of players? The fact is its all about getting out of this division. I for one don't care how this happens. I remember watching David pleat as our manager he bought in lovely passing players Ricky Hill etc but we were rubbish under him. During the Brian Little years we played some of the most direct type of football I've ever scene not the best but it worked. We were promoted. The some thing happened under the GREAT man himself MON. We were very direct and then towards the end of his tenure he mixed it up a little with the likes of Collymore Lennon and Izzet who all loved a pass. Its horses for courses and the Brazil thing will come in time. I think you should be greatful you got to 7th under Sousa. Leicester City on the other hand is a bigger club with a greater fan base and tradition. Sousa can achieve what he wants in the game at this club. Your club on the other hand with respect will play nice football this season under Brendon Rodgers but will be lower mid table at best. Good luck your going to need it.
JackFish Posted 5 August 2010 Posted 5 August 2010 And that he feels that the board didn’t give him the full backing he needed... I agreed with the rest of your post, but definitely not on that point. Firstly, he knew the conditions he'd have to work under when he took the job, and secondly he spent around £1.5m in transfer fees last season - maybe not a huge amount at this level but far more than any of our other managers have ever been allowed to spend. I wouldn't say that there's any bitterness from our fans either to be honest. If you look back at our message boards towards the end of last season there were many people calling for him to go, and although I wasn't one of them I was quite glad when you took him off our hands because it'd become clear in May/June that he no longer wanted to be here. He did a good job here, none of us expected to be challenging for the playoffs again after losing Scotland and Gomez but he moulded us into a very effective and miserly team. Also regarding the comments about how negative we were last season, there's no doubt that we were more negative than we were under Martinez, but we were about midway in the number of shots on goal according to the FL website, and in fact had more shots than Cardiff who scored a crapload of goals. Yes we could have done with getting more players into the box and being more attacking, but we simply don't have any prolific goalscorers in our team, and that's not something that looks to have changed over the summer. Yes we marked zonally last year, and I think we only conceded three goals from set pieces, it's far more effective than man-marking when utilised correctly IMO. I think Sousa will do quite well for you, he's a very good coach, and really got the best out of a lot of our players last season, but I would say that he's not a great manager, and could maybe use some support in transfer dealings etc.
CosbehFox Posted 5 August 2010 Posted 5 August 2010 But wasn't a percentage of the SS with Loughborough Uni's involvement? Understandable if the case as I know the young intern as gone. It was indeed but not all of them were interns, in fact we still have some Loughborough involvement at academy level. I think foxbloggers stats are very interesting, I really want Sousa to succeed but I am conscious that Pearson's team was built on freakishly high fitness levels where they were even monitored in their sleep. Fryatt's career turnaround coincided with the arrival of the sports science and Pearson, where before he looked leggy and to be carrying some weight he suddenly had a deceptive turn of pace and his goals ratio shot up. I agree it was just a question as I noticed City's Staff 5-a-side team lost a couple of young lads in their team down Goals. 'tis a concern and not helped by Gallagher and Vitor's strains this Summer.
Rich Fox Posted 5 August 2010 Posted 5 August 2010 7th last season was a MASSIVE over achievment by Swansea who will probably never finish that high ever again.
Sk4 Posted 5 August 2010 Posted 5 August 2010 I guess Sousa took Swansea as far as he could with their limited resourses , i believe he will probably take Leicester into the premiership and then hope a bigger club then becomes available, but heyho we'll see
Webbo Posted 5 August 2010 Posted 5 August 2010 My concerns too. Fitness is vital. Could this have played a part in why Swansea dropped away at the end of the season and were caught by Blackpool for the final playoff place? Surely the players will get fitter as the season wears on, playing games twice a week. I'm more concerned about a slow start like Swansea had last season.
Alexikokopops Posted 5 August 2010 Posted 5 August 2010 Surely the players will get fitter as the season wears on, playing games twice a week. I'm more concerned about a slow start like Swansea had last season. You could also argue that without the fitness training at the beginning of the season they'll get tired a lot quicker. Then again, I've no idea about how all that fitness stuff goes, my idea of fitness training is walking to the curry house for a takeaway rather than getting them to deliver.
BoneDog Posted 6 August 2010 Posted 6 August 2010 I'm not worried about Sousas routine. All this sports science is a load of crap anyway. All you need to do is go for a jog for an hour every mornin, head up the park for a thug workout on the bars and frames and then stop smokin green and crack on Fridays, Mondays and Tuesdays. Job done and you're raring to go every Saturday afternoon.

tomtom Posted 6 August 2010 Posted 6 August 2010 Stop smoking crack ??? Robbie Nielsen's not gonna be happy with just a 4 pack of special brew!

One of our sports scientist have gone to Liverpool, 2 to Hull we just have a young lad who warms the team up. Very common now for teams to get fit using a ball, not running aka Jock Wallace. The role of the sport scientist will only increase, working at Lough uni and chatting to a sc who spent a year at city convinces me of that Why City have not replaced them is a mystery, must be cost ? Time will tell Id say we are better with them than without them
wurmer Posted 7 August 2010 Posted 7 August 2010 Couldn't personally give a toss what Swansea fans or some crappy player with obvious motives have to say - results will do the talking this season. So Swansea fans, you should be talking on your own boards as you should be more concerned about your own team not getting relegated this season - than posting on here.
andy_croydz Posted 8 August 2010 Posted 8 August 2010 I must admit, he doesn't show up on my football manager game even with the huge database I don't know what version of FM you are playing but I have large database with around 8 countries including Portuguese leagues and Miguel Vitor is indeed on there I'm in 2017 and he is an established member of the Portugal team

I hate to say I told you so.......................but i told you so.
Unit Posted 29 September 2010 Posted 29 September 2010 Oh dear. I hate to say I told you so.......................but i told you so. Good point (providing we don't win on Saturday, the board give Paulo 5 more games, he wins all 5 and then we magically jump to 1st in the championship for the remainder of the season)
poopbutt Posted 30 September 2010 Posted 30 September 2010 Oh dear. I hate to say I told you so.......................but i told you so. what could we have done, we didn't chose him as our manager.

somebum Posted 30 September 2010 Posted 30 September 2010 Honestly can't believe how stupid some City fans are.
Koke Posted 30 September 2010 Posted 30 September 2010 There will always be a few payers who don't like their manager. I'm sure there are one or two in our squad who were happy to see Pearson go who perhaps didn't along with him. It's inevitable. No manager can please everybody. Garry disabled is dire anyway.
