Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 7 August 2010 Posted 7 August 2010 Only Wellens on the bench, don't think he can play at the back!! What?
The Doctor Posted 7 August 2010 Posted 7 August 2010 Only Wellens on the bench, don't think he can play at the back!! really? Where have the other 6 subs gone then?
Richard Posted 7 August 2010 Posted 7 August 2010 Right, we've just gone through a major change in style of play, and with exactly the same lineup as last season, we're going to experience some not so great performances. It's just a transition phase, and when we're passing like Brazil and banging them in, nobody will remember this result. Optimism.
MPH Posted 7 August 2010 Posted 7 August 2010 Completly different manager, completly different style of play yet same players. Of course we are going to struggle first few games.
MikeyT Posted 7 August 2010 Posted 7 August 2010 ps. who is this Moore fella on the bench? Young defender
ousefox Posted 7 August 2010 Posted 7 August 2010 ps. who is this Moore fella on the bench? Luke Moore, 17 year old i think.
Karljohn Posted 7 August 2010 Posted 7 August 2010 Maybe our new owners are actually an Asian 'betting' syndicate, and we have got to lose 8-0. HOW can he not change anything at HT?? Exactly, kids on the bench, chuck them on, this game is gone, let them express themselves and put themselves into the frame, lets face it the first X1 aren't up to it based on that first 45.
Lillehamring Posted 7 August 2010 Posted 7 August 2010 i'm actually surprised how many people are surprised by this - you can't seriously expect to get a team to go from the dullest kind of hoof ball to flowing continental footy in the space of one half. everyone knows the risk of playing this type of footy. palace are just playing it simple and taking advantage of the fact that we're thinking too much about what the manager is asking for. what is frustrating is the amount of offsides and crap set pieces, if your going to play passing footy you have to stay onside...
Madrid_Fox Posted 7 August 2010 Posted 7 August 2010 I hope we can give Moreno a run out on Tuesday. You have to wonder if he does play who will he replace? And can we find someone who can deliver a set piece for crying out loud!
Babylon Posted 7 August 2010 Posted 7 August 2010 They cant score if our front two can keep hold of the ball. Simple. I think you'll find they can.
topharry123 Posted 7 August 2010 Posted 7 August 2010 first game nerves. We've got 45 minutes to turn it around. Need Wellens to come on and support the forwards a bit more. If this happens again and again it's a problem, 1 game comes down to 1 bad appearance and not being used to the new style yet. Anyone who says sousa out wants their head looking at. He had a good pre-season and deserves a good chance to have a go.
Pegosteve Posted 7 August 2010 Posted 7 August 2010 Have any of our corners got past the 1st defender?
Richard Posted 7 August 2010 Posted 7 August 2010 Look did anyone seriously think that he could turn the same bunch of players into a continental style of passing game in 5 weeks? OK am not happy but come on he will stick by his principles and it will pay off eventually. When you look at it we don't have a lot of choice and no money either! But come on Keep the faith! This.
Karljohn Posted 7 August 2010 Posted 7 August 2010 Completly different manager, completly different style of play yet same players. Of course we are going to struggle first few games. Sounds like that could apply to Palace aswell.
wacky Posted 7 August 2010 Posted 7 August 2010 really? Where have the other 6 subs gone then? to get a hot pie & a cup of tea
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 7 August 2010 Posted 7 August 2010 Have any of our corners got past the 1st defender? Our set pieces get shitter every season.
Thracian Posted 7 August 2010 Posted 7 August 2010 What a shambles. We're paying big time for lack of pre-season preparation, new signings being unavailable, the nonsense of using Oakley as our supposedly retentive midfielder, and failing to deal with the worst problem of all - trying to fit a backline of relatively pedestrian non-footballing spoilers into an intended passing team. What Sousa needs to realise is that a ood coach has to adapt the tactics suited to his available players rather than expecting every group opf players to perform to a pre-set manner of playing. If Sousa wants to pass the ball, fair enough, I'm all for it. But, as I mentioned last wek, our team is not a cohesive unit all moving forwards and backwards together. The manager is playing theory football and seems to be getting what he deserves. Of course Andy King is out best attacking/goalscoring central midfielder, but he's also our best man in front of the defence and away from home, with our new signings missing, and our back line always likely to be exposed when left on their own King is much more needed as the outlet in front of defence. It seems too that we're being absolutely suckered on the break partly because of the weakness which was so apparent against Sunderland - our failure to close down quickly enough and fail to recover fast enough when attacks have broken down. How King will be missed in this way because he never watched the ball but always watched the danger. The first quarter of the season is going to be a painful act of faith because the sort of transition Sousa wants to make requires the personnel to do it. And we don't have defensively from anything I've seen yet.
akwahoo Posted 7 August 2010 Posted 7 August 2010 Sounds like that could apply to Palace aswell. Ding ding ding. They've gone through their fair share of stuff too. Goodness I'm in disbelief.
MikeyT Posted 7 August 2010 Posted 7 August 2010 According to Stringer, none of our subs even warming up.
Foxhateram Posted 7 August 2010 Posted 7 August 2010 At least there are some people on here who don't work on knee jerk reactions. Like some are saying it will take time to adapt to the new system. There is some things to work on judging by this game but we have shown some good spells in this game as well. Second half so far seems better, lets keep the optimism until 4/5 games in please.
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 7 August 2010 Posted 7 August 2010 I wonder how long it will be till people start going: 'players need the time to adapt and change style, gel, etc.'
