Stevosevic Posted 7 August 2010 Posted 7 August 2010 This is it, setting off now, really hope we get the three points today. Nothing better than a win on opening day.
FrankieADZ Posted 7 August 2010 Posted 7 August 2010 bad news......Palace haven't banned the vuvuzela from what I seen,
Phlashman Posted 7 August 2010 Posted 7 August 2010 Yeah, I just saw that on SSN. As if Cockney's weren't annoying enough. Just have a big breakfast then heading off, there's parking spaces in London right?
marbelladave Posted 7 August 2010 Posted 7 August 2010 Practically a homer for me... Just off to train, then an early lunch, tube and train to Thornton Heath arriving in time for a pint before the game. All we need is a good win for a perfect saturday... Fook me, I am nervous though...
davieG Posted 7 August 2010 Posted 7 August 2010 From the Merc After playing the last 18 months out of position, Matt Oakley is back where he wants to be. Oakley looks set to start in the centre of midfield at Selhurst Park today when Leicester City's Championship campaign kicks off against Crystal Palace. He couldn't be happier. "I'm back in the middle, which is where I've always wanted to play," said the 32-year-old. "For the last 18 months I've been playing out of position, which I've done for the benefit of the team. I told Paulo (Sousa) I wanted to play in the middle and he's given me my chance. I feel good at the moment, I feel sharp, I feel like I'm playing well and I'm enjoying being in that role. "My position is in the middle and, hopefully, I can play well and keep the shirt." The arrival of Sousa has heralded a major change in playing style. It is something that Oakley is buying into big time. "I like to get the ball on the deck and play, that's he way I grew up in football," said Oakley, who is favourite to captain the side today. "I've always played in good footballing sides and it is nice to see someone (like Sousa) trying to change the English mentality, if you like, of not always passing the ball and not always playing at the back. "I think the fans will be impressed with how we're trying to play, but they have to be patient. It's a different style, we might make mistakes, but I think we'll be nicer to watch." Oakley is a veteran of more pre-seasons than he would care to remember but is happy with City's preparations. There was a notable victory at Peterborough, followed by an impressive showing against Sunderland last weekend. "We played a good Premiership side with big players and didn't look over-awed," he said. "I thought we gave a good account of ourselves and were very good in the first half. It was only a mistake for their second goal which cost us the game. That was the difference. "We've worked on a different style, the manager wants us to pass the ball a lot more. We're taking on board what he is saying and we are creating chances, which is great "We created chances in the first half against Sunderland and could have been leading at the interval. The signs are good if we can keep going like that. Progress will start to come the more confident we get and the more games we play." Sousa was keeping his starting line-up under wraps. Summer signings full-back Tom Kennedy and striker Leon Crncic will be in the squad. Central defender Miguel Vitor, on a season-long loan from Benfica, returned to training this week after a thigh injury, but Sousa may opt to stick with Michael Morrison and Jack Hobbs. Another new addition, Moreno, could figure in midfield. Paul Gallagher has missed four of City's six pre-season matches with a thigh problem and remains a doubt. Former City player Paddy McCarthy is expected to shake off an Achilles injury and partner new signing Adam Barrett in the heart of the Palace defence. Neil Danns is suspended, so Owen Garvan, brought in from Ipswich during the week, could start in the centre of midfield. City's Andy King has been named in the Wales squad for a friendly international against Luxembourg in Llanelli on Wednesday.
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 7 August 2010 Posted 7 August 2010 Thought Oakley would start. Hoping for 3 points, though think it will be a 1-1 draw.

Don’t like Oakley at all... Plus the fact Palace have not won their last four season openers is a dodgy one. I just hope we go out there prove we are contenders for promotion and get three points!! C'MOOON YOU BLUEEES

MikeyT Posted 7 August 2010 Posted 7 August 2010 OMG i wouldn't have picked that team, Wellens on the bench poor decision!!!!!!! Can't really say poor decision yet...the game hasn't even kicked off yet mate.
Narborough_fox Posted 7 August 2010 Posted 7 August 2010 A lot of people have ruled Oakley out purely because of how poor he was last season, you got to remember he has been playing wide right for the last 12 months, me for one I am not bothered who is in Centre Mid.
lcfcsnow Posted 7 August 2010 Posted 7 August 2010 Lets be honest, it's a pretty awful team shame there is a lack of new faces in there. Weale, Neilson, Oakley, N'Guessan concern me greatly, as well as DJ's performances for us when it matters.
