Both Hobbs and Morrison had off days today, yet both were outstanding last season. How exactly you can state that Morrison looked out of his depth when you weren't even at the match?

Fantastic news if we have. That means Morrison can concentrate on CB Lamey seemed very good going forward and not bad at the back.

Morisson was one of our best players last year, you don't suddenly become a bad player. Go to a few games and then see what he looks like, don't base an opinion on the bloody radio and after one game!

Good fightback in 2nd half... Am i right in saying that as soon as Howard came on we were better? Couldnt listen to 2nd half- probably wouldn't have anyway! ... But I think he deserves a start next game.. I would start Fryatt against Macclesfield to try and get a goal- hopefully giving him confidence... But from commentary he didn't look up to it, so I would start DJ and Howard against Boro if Fryatt doesn't look better against Macclesfield (a game i'm hoping we win with ease with no problems) ... Boro will be a big game- they'll be looking for their first points of the season after a HOME LOSS to Ipswich. But 2nd half performance looked inspiring, so hopefully just one bad half for our defence (which is surprising as Hobbs nd Morrison barely put a foot wrong last season)

I don't see how Oakyley and Neilson still end up getting the blame? I think Oakley did O.K, and Neilson did well going forward (superb cross for King's goal) and made some crucial tackles and interceptions when Palace tried to catch us on the break. Those calling for Wellens over Oakley based on todays performances I would keep with Oakley. Wellens IMO gave the ball away cheaply when he came on, trying too many neat flicks and tricks, not what you need when you're chasing the game.

1st half was down to defensive errors, Hobbs and Morrison looked shakey. Didnt deserve to be 3-0 down by half time though. Bruno, DJ, and Lloyd worked quite hard in the first half, even saw DJ tracking back into the left back position at one point!

2nd half much, much better. Played some decent stuff, and Crystal Palace hardly had a sniff (one shot from Ambrose saved by Weale all i can remember). Dyer looked dangerous, both fullbacks did well going forward, Howard made a big impact and got the fans going after a quiet first half(excluding the first 10 mins or so). Theres not many Leicester away ends that everyone stands either!

Optimistic for the season after seeing this though. Tighten up the defense a bit and we will do fine. If we play like we did in the 2nd 45 we will rip alot of teams apart in this league.

People can't have a go at others for saying Morrison is out of his depth then say we should give Neilson another chance, and are being 'over critical' of him. Morrison was brilliant last year, Neilson was fooking shit, neither of them have changed my opinions of them on the basis of one game.

Clearly, our squad is far too small, something that has been blatantly obvious since the loan players went back. We need 3 or 4 at least, we can't have a bench that includes a whole load of academy kids. We had Howard & Wellens as options today, that's all. I know the new guys are injured, but even when they come back we're hardly blessed with options. Bring Crncic, Vitor, Moreno & Gallagher back and that fills the bench with senior players, but one injury and it's back to the kids again!

They could turn out to be brilliant, but they can't be shouldering the responsibility of being in the first team for the whole season, they're too young.

I'm also worried by the fact that we only played well when Howard came on, because that isn't exactly a glowing assessment of Sousa's new passing style is it? Pretty passing all through pre-season, first proper game and we're total shit until we resort to the big man up top tactic.

The positives obviously are the fightback and the fact that DJ scored. I don't mean to be overly negative, but the problems shown up in this game are not ones that have crept up on us, they have all been coming for the whole of the summer.

Couple of other things, Dyer is another positive, and I'm not completely convinced Wellens is the answer, though he's definitely better than Oakley. He always seems to need too much time on the ball, which is a problem if the other team gets in our face in midfield.

Yes, agree with this. I like Wellens but he did give the ball away a fair bit, probably more than Oakley.

Neilson's never going to be anything special but he got forward well and as stated sent in a beauty of a cross for King's goal.

Just got back.

Disappointing result but we certainly had to chances to have won the game today. After not seeing any of the pre season games I could certainly the change tactically although it really seemed as if it may need a few more games to bed in.

Dyer and Berner were the stand out players for me.

I've been replaying the Crystal Palace goals and Neilson definitely showed bad judgment for their third goal. He was marking the CP goal scorer on his side of the box then at the last minute left him to stand on the line leaving the player free. Goal then scored. Neilson had one of his better games and was effective going forward.

King and Oakley were outnumbered as Palace put 3, often 4 men up against them and just blew them away, there was no coverage in front of the back 4 so Morrison and Hobbs were hopelessly exposed.

That, in a nutshell is why we lost the game today, plus the fact we were practically a man down while N'Guessan was on the pitch.

Still their were some encouraging signs second half, and judging by some of the results today it's too early to be reading too much into anything.
