Guest ttfn Posted 18 August 2010 Posted 18 August 2010 Cardiff City are a total disgrace to football. Over the top? In my opinion, probably not. Clubs get into financial difficulties all the time. We did a few years ago. But then we had a sustained transfer embargo placed on us. Cardiff's lasted about 2 minutes, and with no (reported) additional investment, have now spent yet more money. Other clubs in financial difficulties seem to have got there through little fault of their own, or at least by accident, whether it be through the collapse of a television provider or whatever. Cardiff City are on a systematic, sustained bid to gamble everything on promotion to the Premier League. But they are able to do this because the authorities are totally spineless. I've said it before, but if a company in any other industry had the level of unpaid debt (in proportion to revenue) that Cardiff had, and had consistently been issued with writ-after-writ, they would have been placed in administration months ago. A selection of Cardiff City news stories from the past year: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/c/cardiff_city/8506666.stm http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/c/cardiff_city/8557188.stm http://www.cardiffcityfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10335~1906615,00.html http://www.cardiffcity-mad.co.uk/news/tmnw/motherwell_not_happy_and_issue_winding_up_order_547101/index.shtml So the proposed winding up order would be the 4th (FOURTH) in less than a year/ I simply can not understand how anybody is defending this. I don't know what gets me more. Is it the spinelessness of the high court? Is it the stand-offishness of the FA and football league? Is it the frankly idiot Cardiff fans who last year were (rightly) moaning when Ridsdale spent the advanced season ticket money (promised for new players) on paying off debt and are now over the moon that they seem to have found the cash (I wonder where it came from? - oh, it's the money they owe other clubs) to pay Bellamy's wages? Let's not forget that this is a club that was so skint 6 months ago that it couldn't afford to turn on the undersoil heating for our game. No, it's the lying. It's the constant fooking lying. Whether it be Ridsdale lying to the fans, or the constant assurances to the High Court that additional investment from a Malaysian consortium (that eventually materialised in May) was imminent back in December and March. Or that when the new investors arrived, their financial worries would be over. But no sooner had they arrived than they were facing another winding up order. Good luck to Bellamy, but I genuinely hope Cardiff City go into administration. Not bust, just into administration.
Mack Posted 19 August 2010 Author Posted 19 August 2010 From wikipedia.... The club was estimated to have between £10m[8] and £30m of debt.[11], and faced a fifth winding up order over a £1.9m tax bill on 16 June. The publishing of the financial accounts for year 2009 in August 2010 revealed that the clubs actual debt was £66 million, leading to concerns over the continued existence of the club. Further winding up orders are anticipated over unpaid PAYE and National insurance contributions from HMRC and the club has reneged on a number of transfer fee payments to clubs such as Motherwell and Charlton saying that they are "more skint than Billy McSkint's ex gambling partner"
ibbosuk Posted 19 August 2010 Posted 19 August 2010 Cardiff City's signing of Craig Bellamy, has at a stroke virtually sealed one of the promotion places for the welsh club as far as I am concerned. When asked who was paying his reported 98,000 pw wages Bellamy replied "Manchester City" The fact is Manchester City are only to willing to pay Bellamys wages and shuffle him out of the Premiership and away from there rivals. Clearly Bellamy is one of the top Premiership players but deemed a "loOse cannon" by Man City and has not made there squad. Obviously Bellamy is very happy to play for his home town club and not take a drop in wages (Who Wouldn't ?) So Cardiff City (already one of the favourites for the championship) now have one of the top premier league players for one season for free NOTHING!! It strikes me as there is something very very unfair about this situation given the fact that Cardiff owe the taxman millions, and Motherwell have had to threaten to send in the bailiffs to get there £200,00 owed to them. Cardiff City are riding the perfect championship storm.

Guest Bilo Posted 19 August 2010 Posted 19 August 2010 Football League warns Cardiff on Craig Bellamy signing Football League chairman Greg Clarke has told Cardiff City that they must be able to prove they have the means to fund Craig Bellamy's loan move. Clarke warned that the League may not register Bellamy, on a season loan from Manchester City, without assurances.Cardiff have debts estimated at £30m and have missed tax bill deadlines."Our job is to make sure there is an integrity of competition, which people only take on liabilities that they can meet," Clarke said."We have to register the player and we've asked Cardiff for some information, which will be confidential between them and us, which will allow us to appraise whether we are going to register that player or not."Without pointing the finger directly at Cardiff, I have an abiding principle that people in business and their personal lives should always pay their debts."It depends what money they've got available and it depends whether they intend to take on an obligation and extinguish their other obligations at the same time."I don't know the answers to that, but we'll find out the answers. But certainly I wouldn't approve of any club taking on more obligations if they couldn't pay their existing ones."Cardiff issued a statement on Wednesday night, promising to take up the matter with the Football League at the first opportunity."The club are fully aware of the comments made by Football League chairman Greg Clarke on Wednesday," said the Cardiff statement."We are extremely disappointed that he has chosen to discuss these matters in public without waiting for an opportunity for Cardiff City to provide a full and private response."As we have stated previously, we are fully confident that this deal adds up in a business and sports context."It should be remembered that the club have released 10 players this summer and to date have brought in two free agents and season-long loan players."We are extremely proud to have reached a sensible deal with Manchester City which has allowed us to bring Craig home to realise his dream of playing for his home-town club and to help us pursue our ambition of challenging to join the Premier League."This deal has also been fully supported and underwritten by our Malaysian investors who have shown unprecedented support since joining the club."We will be in contact with the Football League on Thursday morning to discuss these matters further."Cardiff still owe Motherwell £175,000 for the transfer of Paul Quinn in July 2009 and the Scottish club's chief executive, Leeann Dempster, has been publically critical of Cardiff's recent signings."They [Cardiff] have signed a high-profile player, which has really annoyed us," Dempster said this week. "They should have their debts settled from last year before they are allowed to sign any players."Cardiff have not spent any money up front on permanent signings this summer, relying instead on loans to bolster Dave Jones' squad since their transfer embargo was lifted earlier in August. The transfer ban was imposed due to a delay in paying debts, including £1.3m owed to HM Revenue and Customs. As well as the surprise capture of Bellamy, midfielders Jason Koumas, Seyi Olofinjana and Danny Drinkwater have all arrived for the season from Premier League teams. It is thought that Manchester City will continue to pay the bulk of Bellamy's wages, but Cardiff's combined wage bill for their new recruits will still be significant.Cardiff chief executive Gethin Jenkins has promised Motherwell that their situation "will be resolved within the next seven days".Jenkins has also pointed out that increased ticket sales and merchandising sparked by Bellamy's signing on Tuesday will have a beneficial effect on the Championship club's finances.
davieG Posted 19 August 2010 Posted 19 August 2010 Skysports.com understands Cardiff are closing in on the signing of former Celtic defender Lee Naylor. Naylor is available on a free transfer after leaving Parkhead over the summer. Bluebirds boss Dave Jones is a big fan of Naylor having worked with the full-back during his time in charge of Wolves. The 30-year-old has been training with Cardiff and Jones is now ready to offer him a deal at the Championship club. Naylor will help fill the void left by Mark Kennedy's departure to Ipswich and will become Cardiff's seventh signing of the summer.

So its alright to pay for Naylors wages and not to give Motherwell the money that Cardiff have owed for more than a year.. What a joke.
Aumski Posted 19 August 2010 Posted 19 August 2010 i read on goal.com that source's linked with cardiff and man city, that cardif are actualy paying 50% of his 90k wage. YEAH THERE FOOKIN PAYING HIM 45K.

Collier Posted 19 August 2010 Posted 19 August 2010 Naylor's a tidy player as well, bit of a joke, really.
Mack Posted 19 August 2010 Author Posted 19 August 2010 They used to burn their own houses down in Wales to get an insurance pay out as no mug would give them tuppence for them. That new shiny Cardiff City Stadium must be insured for a few bob?!?!
adam1 Posted 19 August 2010 Posted 19 August 2010 Apparently Cardiff can afford Bellamy because of merchandising revenue, and shirt sales have been quoted somewhere. Now... Cardiff are paying Bellamy £45k a week of his £95k week wages. Thats £2.34m over 52 weeks. So lets just say its £2m for the season (can't be arsed to work it out). If every Cardiff City shirt sold netted the club £25 profit they would need to shift 80,000 shirts. Considering they cannot sell out a 26,828 seat stadium, I think their assurances are absolute balls.

Just to pay his first week's wages they need to sell 1800 brand new extra shirts with Bellamy on (i.e. not just extra printing, which can only make between a £5 and £10 profit surely?). This week. Like balls is that going to happen.
Mack Posted 20 August 2010 Author Posted 20 August 2010 It cant happen, as they ran out of 'Y's to print the shirts with. Unless you are OK with Bellam_ and come back for your 'Y' in a couple of weeks.
orangecity23 Posted 20 August 2010 Posted 20 August 2010 If our megastore stocked enough Ind Coope shirts to meet demand, we could have bought Messi by now. Dear lord, I so badly want one of those shirts.
Guest ttfn Posted 21 August 2010 Posted 21 August 2010 Yeah but on the plus side at least their cheating isn't going to get them anywhere...

rico Posted 10 October 2010 Posted 10 October 2010 Cardiff Still Owe Another Club Money See they're still owing another club money !
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 10 October 2010 Posted 10 October 2010 Cardiff Still Owe Another Club Money See they're still owing another club money ! I really dislike Cardiff. Not just because they are Welsh and shouldnt be in our league anyway, but they seem to think its ok to spend, spend, spend, on players but give nothing to everyone else they owe money to. How they have got away with it for so long I dont know.
Guest Bilo Posted 10 October 2010 Posted 10 October 2010 If Cardiff fail to go up this season and go bankrupt, I am in no way ashamed to say I will laugh my bollocks off.
StanSP Posted 10 October 2010 Posted 10 October 2010 What I'd give to see Chopra crying again too! I wouldn't be sad to see them go given the way they've spent and gone about their business too.

Of all clubs, the only ones i wouldn't have sympathy for should they go bust are cardiff and mk dons.
