Jimmy Posted 21 October 2010 Posted 21 October 2010 link Two Liverpool fans are being treated for stab wounds after violence ahead of their team's Europa League tie in Naples.Merseyside Police said it had received reports that six Liverpool fans in total were attacked in the Italian city. Local police in Naples said the victims included a British family of four. The Merseyside force, which has officers in the city liaising with local police, said two fans, men aged 27 and 53, were taken to hospital with stab wounds. Their injuries are not thought to be life threatening. Naples police said three local men had been arrested. "We are still gathering information," a Naples police spokesman said. "Four people of the same family, a father, a mother and their two sons, were attacked last night and needed medical attention. "Due to the aggression, three Naples citizens were arrested." Local police are planning to hold a press conference later at which they are expected to release more information. Liverpool are due to play Naples later.
Tilley Posted 21 October 2010 Posted 21 October 2010 Jesus, more trouble in Italy. Being stabbed when all you want to do is watch a football match, insane.
Finnegan Posted 21 October 2010 Posted 21 October 2010 Naples is a fvcking scary ass city, even aside from football.
Guest Bilo Posted 21 October 2010 Posted 21 October 2010 Naples is a shithole of a city and the people rough as bollocks. You need to keep a low profile there at the best of times, let alone when there's a big match coming up.
lcfc_jme Posted 21 October 2010 Posted 21 October 2010 Italian mentalists in violent disorder shocker. I think of all the places I could go and watch an away game in Europe with Leicester, Italy would probably be the one place that worries me the most. Followed by Serbia. Then Poland, and then Turkey. I have no idea why it is, but the crazy fvcking Italians largely feel a need to "prove" themselves when English fans come to town, but even for them, attacking a family is low. NB: I'm not saying all Italian fans are lunatics. Just some are actually uncontrollable.
Wymsey Posted 21 October 2010 Posted 21 October 2010 Serbia and Italy fans by far the worst. Sort it out FIFA.
Fosse Boy Posted 21 October 2010 Posted 21 October 2010 Complete madness. Apparently it's a big "honour" type attack, a way for younger lads (not Ultras groups I might add) to get respect by stabbing rival fans. Glad those attacked seem to be OK. Like with the whole Serbia thing last week, it really is a different world in some countries.
Dickie Greenleaf Posted 21 October 2010 Posted 21 October 2010 Hang on though, Italy has perhaps the highest levels of Ultras being involved in violence as well their other activities
AmyLGK Posted 21 October 2010 Posted 21 October 2010 I was just about to start a topic about this - and in particular the following, taken from the BBC website: "Gangs of hardcore football fans went out to hunt down and attack Liverpool supporters in Naples, police have said." I really wish the press would stop calling these vile idiots "football fans" - they clearly are not fans of football at all else they would realise that there actions have a decididly negative effect on the game! It's just mindless violence being branded under the name of football! Dick heads!

I've met plenty who fall into both camps.
Jon the Hat Posted 21 October 2010 Posted 21 October 2010 I think they probably do like football. You can be a football fan and a willy puller you know. I've met plenty who fall into both camps. But the liking of football is unrelated to being a willy puller, and that is the point. If you continually associate the two, then people think football fan = violent thug and we all get hounded by the police.
Dickie Greenleaf Posted 21 October 2010 Posted 21 October 2010 But it happened in the context of an upcoming football match. I didnt hear any stories about British tourists getting stabbed in Naples last week and probably wont next week. People need to realise that being a football fan is not like being part of some exclusive gang with high ideals and morals or a particular code of behaviour to adhere to 24/7 365 days a year. A lot of people in general are wankers and it follows that a lot of football fans will be wankers.
Corky Posted 21 October 2010 Posted 21 October 2010 Stupid behaviour, hope all the people affected by this can recover.
AmyLGK Posted 21 October 2010 Posted 21 October 2010 my point is that these people are using football as their reason for being violent, which gives us non violent football fans a bad rep. like religious extremists use their religion as an excuse. thats not the reason for their violence at all - they are violent cause they are physchopatic idiots, it has nothing to do with football!
Thracian Posted 21 October 2010 Posted 21 October 2010 link It's strange - the Italians didn't have much of a reputation as fighters in the War. And what a vain lot they seemed when I visited. Some thought glass backed squash courts were made that way so they could admire their reflections. I remember being challenged to a game by the Italian champion. He'd had all week, but chose my last night when I'd been enjoying a meal with a trattoria owner, and was totally pissed. I guess the odds were about the same as in Naples.
iBleedLeicesterColours Posted 21 October 2010 Posted 21 October 2010 The England national team, aswell as English clubs were obviously renowned as the 'hardest' around in the past. That's why other Nationalities are always after English people, it makes them look tough. Reality is, majority of English fans are no longer involved in any kind of violence due to the clamp down on football related violence in this country and people simply just wanting to enjoy the game. The police force in Italy/Turkey/Serbia etc are no where near as intelligent as police in England, so quite often people get away with using weapons in foreign countries e.g. Leeds fans stabbed in Turkey, correct me if im wrong, but i dont recall anyone being held responsible for that, whereas if it was a stabbing over here, the offender would have been identified within a small time period. Glad the fans are Ok. I would love to see Leicester in Europe, but in these countries you have to fear for your safety. Definitly wouldn't go into Serbia or Turkey.
Guest Bilo Posted 21 October 2010 Posted 21 October 2010 Italy, Serbia, Turkey would all be on my list of places to avoid if we qualified for Europe. You watch us qualify for the Europa League now and get Lazio, Red Star and Besiktas in a group.

CosbehFox Posted 22 October 2010 Posted 22 October 2010 Turkey tbf has calmed down a lot. Helped to by the new stadium developments there. People mention Poland too but if you keep your nut down, youre ok there.
