Shit we need to have in Britain.

For everyone that's been around the world I propose the topic: Shit we need to have in Britain.

Basically brilliant concepts, places, systems, gadgets, food-stuffs or just general things that could be a hit over here but hasn't ever made it to our little island!

This thread is completely inspired by noticing the gag about McDonalds in Hong Kong and my stomach instantly started grumbling at the thought of:

cafe-de-coral.jpg

Cafe de Coral.

It's a fast food chain but the menu is generally Chinese (with a few rare exceptions) and the food is a hell of a lot better quality than you'd commonly associate with "fast food" chains over here. Quite frankly it trumps most proper Chinese restaurants you're likely to find in Leicester n'all!

Fresh food, generous portions and stupidly cheap for what you get. They'd make an absolute killing over here, especially off the sort of wanky students that'd go nuts over it purely because it's from Hong Kong.

The Japanese have a similar chain called Yoshinoya but the food's not quite as good and the portions are a bit smaller. Fuck me I want duck.

So... anyone else been about the world and got any bright ideas?

Had these almost everyday in Washington. Think they're only available there and New York but I've been nagging them to open up in London

Choose your salad ingredients and dressing and they'll use that groovy chopping implement to make an absolute boat load of salad for you for about $5 if memory serves correctly. Kinda like subway but healthier

I see this taking a heavily food orientated route. lol

Give it time, it's bound to go off on an obscure tangent, it is FT after all :giggle:

I want to see some of those crazy Japanese style game shows instead of the normal crap we have to watch when I opt not to go out at the weekend.

We have Dunkin Donuts (are they better than Krispy Kremes?) but you probably have to go to like London or somewhere to get them.

I think there's one in London Selfridges and one in Heathrow and that's about it. Hardly available to the public. They don't franchise in England, I've enquired. :D

I've never tried Krispy Kremes but everyone raves on about them but again there not exactly readily available (none in Leicester). Such a shame we don't have a doughnut culture here :D

Also I'd love to see :

I'm not sure about Leicester, but there's 2 Tesco supermarkets in Bedford and they both have Krispy Kreme stands. If Bedford has it, I'm sure some place in Leicester would!!

I for one prefer Krispy Kreme over Dunkin' Donuts.

And aren't pop tarts like Oreos, if not the same?

I've not seen them in Tesco Hamilton or Wigston before.

Have you tried Dunkin' Donuts to come out with a bold statement such as that? Do Krispy Kreme do three different variations of custard? :D

There are lots of American sweets and drinks in Powerplay. All extremely expensive of course. Had some Pop Tarts for the first time in years recently. Chocolate chip cookie dough. :D

Foreign beer at reasonable prices (although that might soon change with the Singha Movement).

Right-hand side traffic.

A proper public transportation system (at reasonable prices).

Oh, and Timmie's beats Krispy Kreme, Dunkin' Donuts and Co. any day:
