Why should Waghorn go out on loan to make a place for Fryatt? Fryatt is obviously unhappy and it should actually be him that goes out on loan if anyone, what is the point in having unhappy people at the club over players that want to be at the club and earn there place.
sdb Posted 9 December 2010 Posted 9 December 2010 I think he needs to start a game for us soon. Don't see Bednar or Howard as massively better options, even in a lone striker system. he holds the ball up well, and is a goal threat too.

I don't think he should go out on loan, he's a young lad who's suffering from pressure at the moment. He needs Sven to show some belief in him (a bit like Fryatt). He's not been at his best so far this season but when none of the other strikers are showing anything either (in a goalscoring sense anyway) we need to keep a potentially good striker with us.

Anytime I've watched him he always seems ready to pounce on mistakes, he's just not blessed with much pace. He knows when and when not to burn himself out.

I've said he's not blessed with pace, but I think the whole 'lazy' tag just stems from being a right unfit bugger rather than not giving a toss. However, as for your 'apologists' theory, surely the same can be applied to Waghorn, who, you can't dispute, seems to be immune to criticism in exactly equal measure to Fryatt, despite actually delivering little (if anything) more himself. I've said before that he doesn't have an air of a 'big time Charlie' about him, he doesn't think he's better than us by any means. When he was hitting the back of the net left, right, and centre in our League One season, he could quite easily have gone (for a minimal fee, to add), but he signed a contract extension and showed his loyalty. All I'm saying is that I wouldn't necessarily brand him 'lazy,' as so many do. I'd also label him as a classier finisher than Waghorn.

He's had a life dedicated to becoming a professional footballer, gone through the system, made his name, played for us for nearly five years, gobne down to League 1 amidst mass criticism, got us back up, and was marginally denied a chance to play at Wembley stadium, and what, you think he just couldn't gibe a shit all of a sudden? You think that he doesn't desperately want to do well and score goals? You think that he's willing to give up his chance to play for a big club which are clearly going places just because he can't be arsed to chase the ball? Maybe that's why he was dropped. He's missed quite a few sitters actually. But I'm sure if Fryatt had done the same you would have called for him to be dropped. I think it's more of people like you who will never accept when Fryatt does anything good, not the 'Fryatt apologists'. He's not my favourite player by any means, but at a point where our strikers can't hit a barn door I'd expect people to appreciate that Fryatt has been our top scorer for the last 2 seasons. But people even try and knock him for that. They give it, 'he misses too many one on ones' or 'he's just a league 1 striker', or 'it doesn't matter that he still got 13 goals in the Championship even though he was out for 3 months, he wouldn't have scored any more'. It's that kind of thing which make people want to defend him

Bah Humbug If you were the top earner out of all your fellow employees, I'm sure your boss would give you the benefit of the doubt if you were going through a tough period. And if you weren't being given a chance how could he fire you? Nobody can perform to their best all the while, especially when they aren't being given a chance. Fryatt's trade is scoring goals, that, above all, is what he delivers. He's not the best at anything else, but he needs game time to prove himself. Claridge was famously shocking in training, but he did the business on the big day, matchday. The day that matters. Training counts for nothing. I admit he needs to pull his finger out, but at the same time he hasn't been given a fair crack of the whip.
