Psy, Goa & Ambient.

Seething with envy at James' recent outing to see Shpongle.

Haha. We only went there because we got drunk at a comedy night and fancied staying out. Would love to see them play a proper club in the UK.

I was also in Goa about 3 weeks ago on holiday with mates. That place isn't what it used to be. We couldn't sniff out a party, seems like the police and government did a very effective job of clamping down on the trance scene. Nowadays, at least in North Goa, there's just some chilled out bars and a shitload of Russians.

Really do like Shpongle and Infected Mushroom though so if you have any more recommendations I'm happy to hear them...

For ambient music, everyone should check out Kevin Macleod, Matthew Lien and especially Ludovico Einaudi.

I know they're all piano-based, and I don't know if it's what you were heading towards, but I saw ambient in the title and it immediately reminded me of the above. It just calms me down so much and relaxes my mind. VERY easy-listening. If ever I need to sleep and just chill, I just whack my playlist on of these 3, and I'm gone.

It may be a little rock-ish but the whole of 'The Earth is a cold dead place' by Explosions in the sky is pretty relaxing for me.

Play it a fair bit on the train and just sit there gazing out the window for the whole thing

Don't know why I haven't spotted this thread earlier. Some good stuff Finners! Unfortunately already knew those IM and Hallucinogen (not the dub version though) pieces, but keep dropping names in here and I'd love to listen a bit to them

This one's kept me going more than once when writing assignments due the next day

A couple more 'old school' ones:

He's superb, had a few of his albums. Some real nice stuff.

Yep.

I'm in love with I Giorni especially. Genuinely cannot get enough of it when I'm in that mood.

I used to work in Virgin when it was in The Shires (let there in late 2005) and occasionally i was put in the specialist music section and we were able to put music on in there. That's how i discovered him and quite a few other musicians/artists i may not have heard otherwise.

There's a great artist called Lisa Gerrard. She did some of the vocals on the Gladiator soundtrack. Some real nice relaxing stuff by her.

Ah cool. Did you ever come across the Crash OST? In Flames and In The Deep are 2 cracking tracks and are really emotional in the context of the film.

I ran the soundtracks section for a while there but not familiar with them, but will definitely check them out.

Not sure if they're the right genre but I always called them chill out. Used to have all these on vinyl and trip ze paps off yo! Memories......wow wa wee waaa. LFO - Frequencies is a top album, well worth getting 20 years later.
