Fosse Boy Posted 12 December 2010 Posted 12 December 2010 I've always found Frankie Boyle boring. You've got to be really, really good to pull off one-line stand up for an entire set. Stewart Francis is an absolute legend, Frankie Boyle just... isn't funny. Some of his outbursts on Mock The Week do make me giggle but generally speaking he's just crass for the sakes of being crass. It's not that he offends me in any way, shape or form - my flat mate comes out with worse than he does, on a daily basis - but I just genuinely, honestly, find him very, very boring.

And Bert's post too. His column in the sun is just stupid too, it's just his one liners one after another.
Finnegan Posted 12 December 2010 Posted 12 December 2010 Give Demetri Martin's album "These Are Jokes" a listen, it's absolutely fantastic if you like one liners.
Libertine Posted 12 December 2010 Posted 12 December 2010 *Kerry Katona* ... *Al Qaeda* .... *Paedophile* /Boyle
Fosse Boy Posted 12 December 2010 Posted 12 December 2010 Give Demetri Martin's album "These Are Jokes" a listen, it's absolutely fantastic if you like one liners. Shall check him out. More Francis... "Ladies I wasn't circumcised I was circumnavigated."
lcfc_jme Posted 12 December 2010 Posted 12 December 2010 Kevin Bridges and Daniel Sloss are both funnier Jocks. Love the pair of them, espeically Bridges. Superb news seeing as I'm going to watch KB in Wolverhampton on Wednesday. Oh, and when I saw Stewart Francis in Derby last month I genuinely nearly pissed myself. He's fvcking hilarious. Even if he does use some of his MTW jokes in his set.
foxychik Posted 12 December 2010 Posted 12 December 2010 pretty much the same here loved him on mock the week, went to see him at the de-mont few months ago some of it was funny some of it not so he told the 'harvey joke' then and a few walked out, very surprised they put it out on tv !! and good on Jordan for speaking up for her son, I dont mind bad taste, otherwise I wouldn't have gone, but its a bit much taking the p*** out of kids who cant defend themselves. His new sketch show is poor and not funny the jokes are recycled and the inbetweeners was much better at 'the wank joke ' .I have seen a few stand ups and guys like Stewart Lee and Rhod Gilbert are streets ahead in my opinion.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 12 December 2010 Posted 12 December 2010 Demetri Martin <3 Jamie, Bridges is absolute quality.
Jackirius Posted 12 December 2010 Posted 12 December 2010 summin about his disability Yeh can't remember it that well, something along the lines of that she needed to marry a cage fighter so he could stop Harvey from raping her.
StanSP Posted 12 December 2010 Posted 12 December 2010 As many others have said, he was better on MTW than he has become now. I do like Jimmy Carr as virtually all of the time he can do funny and offensive. Not sure how much longer he will last doing that now though. Talking of one-line comedians, does anyone else here like Tim Vine? I find him as funny as Stewart Francis, who I think is excellent.

Finnegan once again speaks the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth!
Koke Posted 13 December 2010 Posted 13 December 2010 Frankie Boyle: "In Scotland they......." "In England they........" <_<
Koke Posted 13 December 2010 Posted 13 December 2010 *Kerry Katona* ... *Al Qaeda* .... *Paedophile* /Boyle *insert a a poor repeated stereotypical joke about Scotland and Scottish people"
Finnegan Posted 13 December 2010 Posted 13 December 2010 Even if he does use some of his MTW jokes in his set. Everyone does, I'm afraid. It's why I don't watch Mock the Week. I've seen enough stand up to be able to spot the routines of most the panellists, not just on the stage segments but in general throughout the show. Sort of kills it, really. Besides, it's just a poor man's Have I Got News For You.

The Padster Posted 13 December 2010 Posted 13 December 2010 Off topic slightly but did anyone go to Jim Jeffries' show on Thursday in Leicester You gotta be yanking me? I only discovered this guy on Friday when his latest show was on Comedy Central and completely pissed myself. If he'd of been playing this week or Comedy Central had put that on a week earlier I'd have spunked a weeks dole on going. He was insulting but without the genius hilarity behind it if that makes sense. Also he just recycled a lot of his mock the week jokes. Chatting about this with me mates on Saturday, he now just flat out insults people. Nothing thought into it, just plain insulting. Also the second part of the quote, on his Frankie Boyle Live dvd it's just a combo of what he said on mock the week combined with some insults at the audience, I've gone off him quite a bit in all honesty. Just got hold of Kevin Bridges dvd so gonna give that a whirl this week, the bits I've seen on Live at the Apollo were great so I've got high hopes.
lcfc_jme Posted 14 December 2010 Posted 14 December 2010 Demetri Martin <3 Jamie, Bridges is absolute quality. . I'm hoping for big things to be fair. The little bits I've seen of him have been funny as and you generally have decent taste. Excited. Actually never gave this much attention until fairly recently.. And now I'm watching shit loads of it and really enjoying it. Can't believe I wasn't alerted to this sooner, in all honesty.
Bellend Sebastian Posted 14 December 2010 Posted 14 December 2010 You can say what you like about Mr Boyle, but he's picked a cracking tune for his telly programme. I love this a lot more than I should: On the subject of Frankie himself, he's a bit of a blunt instrument but I actually find him less offensive than Russell Howard

ousefox Posted 14 December 2010 Posted 14 December 2010 Kevin Bridges and Daniel Sloss are both funnier Jocks. Love the pair of them, espeically Bridges. Daniel Sloss is great. Went to see him in Edinburgh and was very impressed. I've also heard he's written for Frankie Boyle in the past....

Narborough_fox Posted 14 December 2010 Posted 14 December 2010 Did anyone see Kevin Bridges on Would I lie to you? When he got asked if he had bought a camel on holiday it was one of the funniest things I have ever seen.
Finnegan Posted 14 December 2010 Posted 14 December 2010 Did anyone see Kevin Bridges on Would I lie to you? But yeah inspired.
Narborough_fox Posted 14 December 2010 Posted 14 December 2010 Yeah I couldn't remember if it was a horse or camel but yeah a horse.
Flynny Posted 14 December 2010 Posted 14 December 2010 His standup is dull, thought some of his sketches are surprisingly good though, really quite dark. The knight rider one was brilliant if a bit overlong.
