broughtonblue Posted 2 January 2011 Posted 2 January 2011 Santa gave me some money for Christmas so I'm thinking of buying an electric shaver. I've had three of these over the years but not really been impressed with any of them. Just wondering if any of you use one that you could recommend the make/model of, unfortunately shops won't let me try before i buy! It is for my face by the way, I know what could be going through some of your minds!

MC Prussian Posted 2 January 2011 Posted 2 January 2011 I'd prefer a classic barber's treatment, but they're all dying away so I had to go for a Braun at one point.
Bellend Sebastian Posted 2 January 2011 Posted 2 January 2011 I bought a Braun Series 3 a couple of years ago and it's great. You cannot get exactly the same model anymore, but in my experience you don't really need to spend more than about £60 and they're often on offer so you could get a bargain, particularly at the moment. I've never got on with rotary shavers so the Braun straight foil ones suit me fine. It's a mystery to me why anyone bothers to wet shave, particularly anyone who has to shave every day
Webbo Posted 2 January 2011 Posted 2 January 2011 I used an electric shaver for around 25 years but I'm converted to wet shaving now. In my experience though I'd have to say I could only recommend Philishave shavers.

Jon the Hat Posted 4 January 2011 Posted 4 January 2011 I always feel that I only get a proper shave with a razor. Yeah. Some of us dont like to have a beard by 5pm....
Jimmy2Drags Posted 4 January 2011 Posted 4 January 2011 I get real bad shaving rash which is made worse by having a really fast growing, hard bristled berard/stubble. Had trouble with numerous different electric shavers over the past 17 years (friction marks) & wet shave is pointless cos I end up with loads of the little white shaving spots. I got a Remington Diamond Flex last Xmas & can now shave as & when....no friction & a real close shave. All Remington electric shavers promise to 'Shave as close as a blade...or your money back' Here's an old advert - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CAzuTIp2lxw&feature=related
Bellend Sebastian Posted 4 January 2011 Posted 4 January 2011 The other thing that does my head in about wet shaving is that I must have extra hard stubble or something because I blunt the blades in no time at all and it's not as if they're cheap things to buy, is it? Like a lot of things one will suit some folk and not others. I think a lot of people my age insist on wet shaving because their only experience of electric shavers is using their Dad's ancient battery operated thing when they were about 14 which took half their face off. They then get a nice Gillette Mach 3 or whatever it is through the post when they're 16 (do they still do this, it must cost them a fortune?) and embark on a lifetime of wet shaving having never actually used a half decent electric shaver. Maybe you do get a fractionally better shave wet shaving but I really think the difference is tiny if you use an electric shaver properly, and my attention span is far too short to faff about with the former. Clearly the best thing to do is go to a barber's every morning and have someone else shave you with a cut throat, but not everyone is officer class (like what I am) so you'll just have to make do
Zingari Posted 4 January 2011 Posted 4 January 2011 sounds like you and i have been chiselled from the same piece of granite Bellend have you tried this manly ex-foliating face scub ? and now the cold weather is here ( not that it affects us much ) here's a good line in balaclavas
Raj Posted 2 June 2014 Posted 2 June 2014 Did a search and this is all i could find...but does anyone use old skool double edged shaving??? Any advice..in old enough to have watched my dad use them when i was younger but it scared me to death....have used Gillette for about 20 years but am really beginning to hate it!!!"
Fox92 Posted 2 June 2014 Posted 2 June 2014 I use a beard trimmer. Real good actually. Used to use Gillette but prefer to have something there now, a little stubble, over a clean cut face.

Raj Posted 2 June 2014 Posted 2 June 2014 I've opened a new thread for old school shaving...Im sure some of the older boys must use em...I've used electric before..crap for me!!!

The margins on them must be huge. I never got on with an electric shaver and always paid for Gillette/Wilkinson sword blades, but recently brought an Aldi razor half expecting it to cut me to ribbons but to my amazement, it was fine. Replacement blades are a fraction of the price too.

Replacement blades are a fraction of the price too. They're up there with electric toothbrush heads and branded printer cartridges in the value for money stakes. Mind you, a replacement foil/head for an electric shaver seems to cost at least half the cost of the actual shaver so us electric types get ripped off too
