hackneyfox Posted 26 January 2011 Posted 26 January 2011 We're finished as a national side if he gets in.
Jimmy Posted 26 January 2011 Posted 26 January 2011 Naughton? Stearman is now a proven Premier League Centre back, Naughton has hardly ever played for Spurs
Rocky Dennis Posted 26 January 2011 Author Posted 26 January 2011 Stearman is now a proven Premier League Centre back, Naughton has hardly ever played for Spurs Maybe so, but does that by definition make him a better player? not in my opinion. Where does it end, DJ Campbell is scoring goals in the Prem, is he worthy of the England squad? I admire the lad's confidence but surely there is no way on earth that will happen
lcfc_jme Posted 26 January 2011 Posted 26 January 2011 Genuinely would be hilarious and DEFINITELY wouldn't make his ego any bigger than it has been for years.
Leicester Lass Posted 26 January 2011 Posted 26 January 2011 If you read the article, the only quote from him about England is saying that he's 'got International aspirations' which is completely understandable, and absolutely nothing worth criticising him for.
Rocky Dennis Posted 26 January 2011 Author Posted 26 January 2011 If you read the article, the only quote from him about England is saying that he's 'got International aspirations' which is completely understandable, and absolutely nothing worth criticising him for. Disagree. Footballers put themselves on a pedestal to be criticised where necessary, there are plenty of reasons to criticise him, this has merely brought him back to my attention. Let's not forget that just a few days before his declaration of lifelong Wolves support, dream move etc.. he was seen to be kissing the LCFC badge while crying crocodile tears on the back of another horrendous personal performance contributing in our relegation, I personally think it hilarious that he has 'international aspirations' - unless of course he has Welsh ancestry
Cal Posted 26 January 2011 Posted 26 January 2011 Theres loads that should be ahead of him for call-ups. Cahill and Shawcross spring to mind straight away.
StanSP Posted 26 January 2011 Posted 26 January 2011 I'd love to see it just for him to realise how far away he is from being remotely good enough for international football. He'd get raped for a full on 90 mins by countless top-class wingers/strikers.
Dickie Greenleaf Posted 26 January 2011 Posted 26 January 2011 Theres loads that should be ahead of him for call-ups. Cahill and Shawcross spring to mind straight away. I guess you're right in one respect. We might have fared better in the world cup if Ozil or Muller had their legs broken.
Thracian Posted 29 January 2011 Posted 29 January 2011 DJ Campbell for England!!! A few months ago some fans didn't think he was even good enough for The Championship. DJ would be hard to mark in any football. And having watched the shambles that was England in the last World Cup I fail to see how he'd do any worse. No, that's not a proclamation of "DJ for England", it's more a reflection of just how mediocre we really are. As for Stearman he always looked a good mobile centre-back when he played there in our reserves. From what I've seen so far, he's still a bit inclined to lose his man in the Premiership but he's still learning and has done quite well up to now. Engalnd class? Not from anything I've seen. .
Legend_in_blue Posted 29 January 2011 Posted 29 January 2011 He can't pass. I am truly lost for words beyond that!
Bert Posted 29 January 2011 Posted 29 January 2011 It's very unlikely he'll make the national team, unless something drastic happens. I don't think anyone can blame him for wanting to play for his country. Who wouldn't? The majority of fans loved him whilst he was here, it's funny how quickly people change. Also, i'm Glad Dj's doing alright for himself in the prem. More goals than Rooney this season. After Allen left, it Just wasn't meant to be for him here I think.
Asherz Posted 30 January 2011 Posted 30 January 2011 and i am sure if he was still a leicester player everyone would be kissing his arse saying he deserves it... lets be honest i am right here. he wanted to progress his carrer he left leicester who gives a **** ... in a matter of a season or two we will be walking all over the likes of wolves...so he will be the one who will be left thinkin o made a cock up there...same as **** wit mattock.

I'm not saying DJ's good enough for England but if any player is showing form that warrants a call up I don't see why not. I was begging for Capello to take Darren Bent and Cameron Jermoe to the world cup. Jerome had a fine season last year. Of course we go and pick players with big reputations regardless of their form.
Head Honcho Posted 30 January 2011 Posted 30 January 2011 If Andy Johnson can win 8 caps for England then anyone can play for them.
Guest BlueBrett Posted 30 January 2011 Posted 30 January 2011 If Andy Johnson can win 8 caps for England then anyone can play for them. And bloody Carlton Cole with 7. What a joke.

I was thinking the other day, about an England team with a few surprises in and whether or not it'd be half decent or gash. A sort of Alernative XI. Hart picks himself at the minute. Hart R.Johnson Cahill Onuoha RidgewellAlbrighton Nolan C.Gardner JarvisWelbeck Jerome I'm not saying that that's a team of world beaters by any means, just that there's more depth to what Capello can pick than what the media seem to make out. You've got the likes of Cleverley and Mark Davies (and, to an extent, DJ) too, who are all having more than decent seasons at their respective (despite Wigan being dogshit). Kevin Nolan is always the heartbeat for his club side, be it at Newcastle or Bolton, and is always criminally over looked for some reason. Then there's Rodwell, Frimpong, Gibbs.... Unless these types of players are given the chance to show what they can do at international level then there'll always be question marks over whether they're good enough.

I made a similar starting eleven a while back and got loads of abuse The current crop can't cut is so I don't see the reason why others who are currently performing well aren't given the chance. Jerome has been poor this season but last season he was looking like a world beater. England need a radical manager in charge, someone not scared to pick a team which the current populous might not agree with. It will also provide competition. I don't think any player should have any given right to be in the squad because of the name on the back of their shirt. I would've even taken Peter Whittingham with me to the world cup. He was on fine form last season. People turn their noses up to championship players but you only have to look to Adam Johnson to see that championship players can easily step up to the top level if they have the right attributes. Nolan, Gardener and Jerome This sums up the attitude of your average England fan and why the next England manager needs to grow a set when choosing his squad.
Dickie Greenleaf Posted 31 January 2011 Posted 31 January 2011 Good form in the premier league does not mean someone is automatically suited to the international game, as has been painfully obvious over the last decade
