SOCCERROO FOX Posted 30 January 2011 Posted 30 January 2011 Trying to decide on where to go later on in the year, going to take a month off work for some more back packing would love some suggestions on where to go. Was originally thinking Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam but have also been reading good things about Peru, Central America, India, China, Oman and the middle East. So any advice, tips etc. would be greatly appreciated.
Jackirius Posted 30 January 2011 Posted 30 January 2011 My mate went to Peru last summer and absolutely loved it, couldn't recommend it highly enough. He went back packing around with a group of 4 or 5 with some company which sorted it all for you but it wasn't a trip where they would hold your hand, they would organise most of it and then leave it to you when you got out there.
jonthefox Posted 30 January 2011 Posted 30 January 2011 The best place ive ever been to is sri lanka. If you take some footy memorabilia with you (eps man yoo ) you can trade it for meals , and drinks etc.

Zingari Posted 30 January 2011 Posted 30 January 2011 Yeah i've heard good things about Sri Lanka, but is there much else to do other than sitting on a beach? you could join the tamil tigers
jonthefox Posted 30 January 2011 Posted 30 January 2011 Yeah i've heard good things about Sri Lanka, but is there much else to do other than sitting on a beach? yeah loads. If you head inland to places like kandy etc, you get as far away from the touristy part as possible and get a real culture shock that is sri lanka. Also, if you travel inland for a couple of hours or so, you could be mistaken for thinking your in derbyshire or somewhere. Head back again , and its white beaches and palm trees. I strongly recommend a visit.

SOCCERROO FOX Posted 30 January 2011 Author Posted 30 January 2011 Egypt Doesn't interest me really and i certaintly wouldn't head there at present with them all the protests and the like.

I would say your first plan there is a really good and pretty gentle introduction to the fact that much of the world is in fact not like where we all live. And lots of fun.
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 31 January 2011 Author Posted 31 January 2011 Just had a mate come back from India 3 days ago and she is already planning to head back in October, which is surprising as she is a little bit princessy and i thought it would be to dirty and full on for her.

SOCCERROO FOX Posted 31 January 2011 Author Posted 31 January 2011 I am looking to do Zimbabwe in the next 18 months or so, can't wait. Victoria falls is amazing and it is even reasonabley safe, i even went for a night time drive with some locals on a pub crawl, which ended up in a make shift bar in a barn/shed were i was the only white person out of 60 people but it was bloody epic.....except for feel inferior in the toilets
Ric Flair Posted 31 January 2011 Posted 31 January 2011 Thailand without a shadow of a doubt. Been there plenty of times and it get's better every time. I am also thinking of Peru, Chile and Bolivia next though.
James. Posted 31 January 2011 Posted 31 January 2011 A month would be a great amount of time to scratch the surface of India. It is an unbelievable place. Or you could come and climb some volcanoes in Ecuador with me.
Wycombe Fox Posted 31 January 2011 Posted 31 January 2011 Don't come to the Isle of Wight. It's going to be carnage next summer by the time the council has finished closing the swimming pools, the tourist information centres and the public toilets. I mean, have you seen the number of pensioners that come here? Pensioners and no public toilets?? Those floods in Brisbane were bad but just wait until the oldies see those bolts across the toilet doors. We'll be awash in a raging torrent of urine and faeces. They're closing the libraries as well but that's not so bad...once you've read one book, you've read them all.
