He can show passion, but also gets many facts and things wrong, can talk nonsense, and gives very porr descriptions of what is happening. He tempts fate to much too, thats what I really hate about him. Alan Young carries him I think. The game is on 5Live Xtra tonight, this time last year I would have listened to it on there, but as Alan Young is so good, I'll listen on RL.

Listened to the Cardiff Burnley game the other day and the Cardiff commentators were horrible. He isnt the greatest, but is better than or at least on par with others I have heard, when I listen to others What annoys me is how little inside knowledge he has, talks about things as news after the whole internet knows about it, and plays it off a lot of the time as he couldn't release the story sooner! Young is good though

Guest BlueBrett Posted 22 February 2011 Posted 22 February 2011 Can't fault Stringer on his commentary or passion. I don't really see what more could be asked of him in those respects. His interviews occasionally make me cringe a bit but I don't hold that against him.

Stringer didn't seem a great deal worse than these.

Stringer didn't seem a great deal worse than these. Agreed. He's massively over-excitable but he tends to give you a good feel for what is actually going on.

He's a lot better than them. They always do that on fivelive no matter who is commentating. Sometimes they'll go for almost ten minutes without even mentioning the action on the pitch in front of them. I think it's because they generally aren't too interested in the sides the are commenting on they are just there doing their job. At least stringer cares what happens.
StanSP Posted 22 February 2011 Posted 22 February 2011 I turned 5 Live off after 5 minutes and switched to Foxes Player. Stringer wasn't that biased this evening, but I wasn't getting any idea of what was going on in the game when 5 Live were commenting.
