Ian Stringer

Ian Stringer is a legend. He's so stupid and bias but I love it. Makes listening to the radio a bit more exciting rather than "the ball is passed up, it goes for a throwing, the player recieves the ball, the pass goes out wide, the run is made down the wing" bla bla bla

Slightly off topic but, I remember my grandad telling me when football was first commented on live on radio in the very early days of broadcasting, everyone at home had a plan of a pitch which was divided up into squares and the commentators would tell you where the ball was in relation to the plan. i.e a1 would be a corner flag, b5 would be penalty spot. Seems weird in this day and age but he says it was a really good way of keeping up with play

Best commentator Leicester has had for years !!! Describes the game really well, but keeps you excited and makes some funny comments to keep the entertainment value. For those of us who cant afford to go down to watch city, he is highly refreshing and Alan Young is the perfect partner, offering his views and not scared to tell the truth!! For those moaning about Stringer, cast your mind back to the old days of Neville Foulger.... zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

I tend to find if we're winning I don't mind whoever is commentating, Steven Hawking could grab the mic for all I care if we get the 3 points. I can guarantee if we had lost 5 in a row Stringer would be a lot more annoying.

I like him

shows passion cant really ask for more than that.

dont always agree with him, coming back from away games my mates have told me what he's said about the game and ive disagreed.

but compare him to the people you hear on late kick off such as bbc nottingham etc, theres no comparison you can only tell the team has scored from the cheers in the background

I Don't love Stringer by any means and at times he's irritating, but he gets way more stick than he deserves.

He makes his gaffs as does anyone, but he shows real passion is generally alright.

I think he's great, really entertaining (his remark about gallys shot being like a hammer you could peel a corrot with being a recent example). I love hearing his enthusiasm when we're playing well (I thought my laptop speakers had blown when waggy scored on Friday) and him and Youngy compliment each other brilliantly. I don't always agree with what he says but that's life surely, no one ever agrees with everyone all the time. having lived in Manchester for 12 yrs I've heard many commentators, and I think stringer and youngy are by far the best.

Also, someone said he was arrogant but I dissagree, he always sounds humbled to have spoken to Sven, for example. Plus, he replies to losds of people in twitter, when many others wouldn't. Seems like a nice man to me.

Going to games on my own lately I've been listening to him and Young while at home games.

I have to say since doing so he has gone up a little in my estimations.

He does make some silly comments but like others have said he is one of us and Barber before him was a joke.

He's very good with predicitions. Last season at home to Sheffield w we had lost to forest n Bristol city before hand and he predicuted Fryatt n Howard upfront which came true, he also predicted Howards first goal in 20 hours of football which came true. I like him and youngy. I don't like the guy whom commentates on the match highlights LCFC.com, he sounds a twat to me.

I didn't like he way he shouted "goal" on Friday and then he realised that the Yak had missed, I love the way he spoke about the 28 800 city fans there on Friday, he really compliments the season ticket holders and the regular away day fans.

Stringers a pretty good local commentator imo, rather have him than the terrible reporters derby and coventry have, the derby one especially, he seems to take pleasure in completely demolishing his side every time they lose or draw.

whats wrong with passion? If u watch late kick off, when.forest score they couldnt give a toss tbf and then u get stringer goin absolutely berserk, like a fan would be. He cant bw critisiced for that and finally remember john barber.

Stringer is very entertaining most of the time but like everyone makes a fool of himself occasionally. For anyone who says he is poor, I suggest you listen to the commentary of Howards goal against Leeds or Waghorns on Friday. Pure delight in his voice and I would much rather hear that than the monotonous Folger or dis-interested Barber (a man who seemed to half smirk when goals went in against us).

I don't really like him. I find him quite cringeworthy and embarassing sometimes. Don't get me wrong you can't argue that he's not a Leicester fan, and he is passionate. However Bernie is passionate about LCFC too but I wouldn't want to hear him commentating week in week out. "Passion" aside, Stringer is not very good at his job.

His interview techniques are awful, and his commentary, whilst fulfilling the basic principles of telling you what's going on doesn't really tick any other boxes - hence why I guess Young is there to add an "educated" view. I find some of his quotes slightly amusing and his mannerisms comical, but he doesn't have the history or respect to really be put in the same league as people like Kamara and Merson on Sky Sports (who I seem to get the impression he thinks he is).

Just my two pence on it, no doubt he's better than some other local radio commentators but I wouldn't be starting petitions to get him reinstated if he got sacked tomorrow, put it that way!

lol Did you hear the things he was saying on Friday? I was pissing myself when he talked about timezones.

There's nothing wrong with Stringer at all. I'd like to see the majority of those criticising him have a go at commentating a game then we'll see who does their job badly.

I didn't say I'd be better - wouldn't mind a go though ;) I can still criticise him based on the performance of others in his field, Stringer would more than likely do my job badly. And he certainly did the job badly for Alan Sugar!

If you don't like listening to him, don't tune into 104.9 on matchdays

Exactly. I personally like his commentary, it's was a breath of fresh air after Barber etc from the last few years. If you don't like it don't listen to it and stop bloody moaning.

I personally like stringer! shows emotion and obviously is a very passionate fan, can't understand why some people dislike him! he's part of the blue army at the end of the day and he is much better then some of the other local commentators i've heard! Alan Young is also a decent partner for Stringer, He tells it how it is and is obviously another passionate Leicester supporter

We're on 5live sports extra tonight as well, so if you want passion listen to stringer and if you want to listen to what's actually happening in the match listen to 5 live
