Max Gradel

He's scored one league goal less than King so far and i'm guessing he's not had as much game time. If you speak to leeds fans, then you'll realise how much they rate his all round play, work rate etc.

King has been more consistent over three seasons, Gradel hasn't. Would you say Nicky Maynard is too good or this league just because he had a good year last year? I'm not saying he's not prem quality, but it's a big statement to make about someone who has had a good 6 months in this league.

The sale of Max Gradel was Pearson's biggest mistake without a doubt.

If he had got a couple of million for him and reinvested it in the squad then I might of understood his thinking - but 250k <_<

Gradel has gone on to prove he's too good for this league and is destined for the premie league, In today's market (where goal scorers are priceless) it's almost unforgivable.

Milan also has to take some blame as he always stuck his nose in where it wasn't welcome, but he couldn't stop the sale of Max - I can tell you now, Max wouldn't have been sold if I was the owner..

How can you possibly say that? He never showed consistency when given playing time. Sometimes great but most of the time very average. I bet you never tipped him as a world beater at the time.

He didn't fit in and was moved on because of this, he might not have even developed the same had he stayed here. The whining about what a mistake it was borders on pathetic sometimes.

I'd say it was excellent business on behalf of Leeds, as opposed to a mistake by NP. Grayson could tell that Gradel was unhappy here and gave him the love and affection he required! Gradel then wanted to leave so Leeds got him for a cut down price.

When Holloway said "football is a simple game made complicated by idiots like me" he couldn't have been closer to the truth. Last season we didn't have on leader on the pitch or even in the dug out! If we can get a leader, and put together a team with two good wingers (already have potentially the best in the league with Gradel) and someone who can stick the ball in the back of the net, then there's no reason that this this season in the long run could be beneficial to the club.

If we had stayed up then we may have made 12th next season in the Championship at a push with all the deadwood. Now if we get promoted next season, I'm pretty sure we'll have a better chance of getting to the premiership if we had stayed up (big if though)

I also reckon we'll be in a better position next season (if we get promoted) to be more lethal in the transfer market, our wage bill will be down and hopefully we will have eradicated the mentality of "lets sign all the players that did well last season in the Championship if even if they're just after the money and don't give a flying fook about our club"

I really hope that Nigel uses this season to bring back that work ethic which was what made LCFC under MON, and any players in the future understand they'll be playing for the badge, not the pay packet.

I've also got about 10 personal messages dating back to 2008 where Ric Flair and I have discussed Gradel's potential in detail.

I share a lot of the same footballing opinions as you, Thracian, but this is ridiculous. Pearson got an average squad who "saw it his way" to massively overachieve and reach the playoffs. I'd rather us, as a club, had a dressing-room full of people who "see it the manager's way" and go out to perform for him, thus getting results, than a couple of bad eggs ruining the team-spirit and attempting to undermine the boss. That's just how it works.

In what way did Gradel have an attitude problem cos I never heard of it and it doesn't sound as if Grayson's finding him hard to handle either ? Bad egg. Trying telling that to anyone in the Academy team when he played such a massive girtually ever-present part in their winning that title. All he ever wanted to do was play which seems pretty understandable when a guy is that age.

DJ was a different situation but in the end if a manager can't cope with anyone who steps out of the straight-jacket he'll never win anything of importance. In fact play-offs semi-finals is about what would expect from nothing more than disciplined automata. You're right, we rarely disagree about football but for me the best managers cope with all temperaments.

When Gradel was sold, nobody seemed to at all concerned back then did they ? IMO,it appears because he's having a decent season, he's one that got away cheaply.

Gradel had attitude problems. He sat opposite me on a coach back from London once and when i said "What's up Gradel!" he grinned, got up and found another seat. Cheeky bitch

If only we had kept hold of Gradel and DJ. One's scoring for fun in this division, the other scoring for fun in the premier with a view to a England call up. :(

Shhhhhhhhhh let it go. Lets move on. We'l have better players than either of them could ever be, when we get promoted

Fair play.

My main sentiment remains. He was a young lad and Pearson missed it. He persisted with King and it has paid dividends. I just don't see where it's going when threads like these get started. I know and so do most others that it was a mistake letting him leave.

You've responded to me calling you on being an advocate of his in the past but as I said, how can you predict a similar development even if he did remain with us.

I don't know where else to go with this, I'm just intrigued why people still get hung up on him like an ex-girlfriend.

Without meaning to sound patronising, thanks for repling

In the past I've called other players - Jon Stevenson (frightening on his day) lawrie dudfield (needed a licence on occasions infront of goal for the reserves)

I suppose you get lucky if you call enough players.

Gradel was different though - he could beat a seasoned pro in his sleep, he could show a lack of respect for fear that I've only seen on the discovery channel when they have been covering Japanese pilots. All of this apart, he was very vulnerable.TheMe bottom line is -

I still do not feel he has reached half his potential.

I predict Gradel will play champions league football in the future, I'll quote myself when he does (cos I'm a dick) but hell to it, I know I'll be right.

Pearson.wanted.to play his way of football, maybe gradel wasnt part of that or they had a dispute. Ultimately the manager is incharge and players should respect that. Sven has done the same with morrison and fryatt, and fryatt has gone onto do so well for hull becoz he fits into pearsons style abd has the backing of manager. If we had gradel now, maybe under sven he would have flourished but before that he would hqve struggled 100%.

No problem, it was a call based on the majority who have an opinion on that matter, maybe it was inexperience but looks like you're one of the more genuine ones :P

I saw Gradel for very limited periods but from what I did see it didn't suggest he was going to set the league on fire but he should have been ahead of N'Guessen in the pecking order.

Without meaning to sound like a dick, it's just a very tired subject. Most would probably take him back but it's over and moot in my opinion. He may well play at the very top one day but that's a big shout and i'll tip my cap to you if he does.

Yeah, that defines him as a player. <_<

Well does. Bristol Rovers, last game of the season when he had a tantrum. Had a couple of moments like that for us.

He's always liable to a rash decision.

I visited Elland Road a few weeks back to watch Leeds v Arsenal in the FA Cup (My friend had a spare ticket before anyone asks) and was surprised to see Gradel playing up front alongside Billy Paynter which explains to me why he's scoring as many goals as he is this season as they rarely play him as a winger and use his pace as an outlet to unlock defences. In fairness to the lad although he's a decent player at this level he'll never cut it in the premier league. Against the Arsenal (I appreciate the fact that it was Arsenal and not a Bolton or Blackpool) but he looked like a lost soul, running around like a schoolboy footballer amongst a field of professionals. When one on one against anyone of Arsenals back four he lost out every time and had absolutely no clue how to beat his man. As I said he is a good player at this level and Leeds certainly got themselves a bargain when they signed him, but I'd be surprised if he is able to step up and consistently perform to the same standard in the Prem.

Leeds will flog him and make an 800 % profit on him...........Well done Leicester.........lol

This is a comment I would expect from a Leeds fan...
