The Roller Posted 12 May 2011 Posted 12 May 2011 Please let us get this one going.Changing "We are Penn State" to "Leicester City" of course
AlphaMaleFox Posted 12 May 2011 Posted 12 May 2011 Nothing's wrong with When You're Smiling, I hope we always sing it. I'm just saying it isn't an anthem. Regardless of whether or not the fans sing it "too fast," even the original popularized versions are are upbeat, jaunty songs. An anthem is something with a slower tempo and a more rousing hook. Go listen to You'll Never Walk Alone, Sunshine on Leith, Lord Is My Shepherd, the Fields of Athenry - even Delilah and Blue Moon. They're all slow songs that can be belted out. Now go listen to When You're Smiling, it just clearly isn't the same thing; and forcing it a la Jersey Budd's awful re-write is just cringe-worthy (let alone, not at all "traditional.") I'm pretty sure, that "Truly Madly Deeply" is not a football anthem and is just cringe-worthy, so what?: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K-_rf2jVxxY Use your imagination, how great it may sound: WYS, performed by Puma HardChorus or, even better, the whole Filbert Way Just close your eyes
stockyfox Posted 12 May 2011 Posted 12 May 2011 What quite surprises me is that no-one has mentioned or even hinted at 'Hey Jude'!!!!????
Dan Posted 12 May 2011 Posted 12 May 2011 Didn't we have the song 'The Sea of Blue' blasted out before kick off towards the end of Filbert Street? This? I've never even heard this but I love it, get this on.
Halfsy Posted 13 May 2011 Posted 13 May 2011 After having read the whole of this thread, i have come to this conclusion, and once again here is my two pence worth. I think 'adopting' a song, particularly by Kasabian, is an asbolutely horrendous idea. I am a huge fan of the band but their songs are hardly cult-classics like 'You'll Never Walk Alone' and in 50 years, no-one will have ever heard of them, unlike The Beatles. It just smacks of tinpot, generic supporters to me, just like Coventry City's pathetic 'While We Sing Together' or Norwich City's 'Just Can't Get Enough' Celtic immitation. 'When You're Smiling' is OUR song, and it always will be. I remember teams at Filbert St. asking us to sing 'the song with the hands'. I think it was either Chelsea, or Newcastle, but i can't quite remember. But that song is UNIQUE to us,everyone knows we sing it. You can't just choose a song, like 'Sailing' and say it's ours. It has no affinity with the city, the club, or the supporters at all. 'Blowing Bubbles' is associated with West Ham United, because their winger Billy Murray had a resemblance to 'Bubbles' from a soap advert in the 1920s, now that is a proper connection that has lasted for almost a century. The problem is, and no offence intended, is that the supporter-culture of acting like Danny Dyer (particularly amongst 16-year-olds) is becoming commonplace within football nowadays due to media such as Green Street, so the younger generation of fans don't know the words. I'm 21, and was fortunate enough to have been brought up on the back row of SK1 at Filbert Street, and it pains me to think that old classics like 'When You're Smiling', 'Those Were The Days' and 'Molly Malone' are being replaced with the likes of the hideously repetitive and frankly embarrassing 'Sol, Sol Bamba' chant. Goal-music also means that the younger generation are even being taught generic reactions when we score! It is simply because people cannot be bothered to learn the words, and i think that really needs to change. How can you expect to adopt a song as complicated as 'LSF' when people struggle to sing 'When You're Smiling'?

You realise songs like and including "You'll never walk alone" WERE pop songs at the time they were adopted? The whole elitism bullshit regarding songs ****s me off. If it's good, why can't it catch on? I don't give a shit if some people think it's cool not to like a song because it's 'popular' or some shit like that.
Jimmy Posted 13 May 2011 Posted 13 May 2011 You'll Never Walk Alone is from Westside Story a stage play and was later made into a song for single release. Hey Jude hase more potential than WYS to be a full on anthem IMO, but I doubt the ADD generation of fans would every be able to memorise the actual words leading up to the chorus
lee7 Posted 13 May 2011 Posted 13 May 2011 The right artist but should sing 'please release me' one that you can belt out and would get on the other fans tits. Always wanted our fans to get this going after the la manga incident. Most of the best ones are old classics ala Delilah, Lovin feelin etc and the're blooming loud with everyone standing with their arms in the air. The old farts won't sing along to Kasabian - forget it! This is one of the best Ideas so far as I think please release me could catch on!! And it's similar to Delilah like you say which gets really loud at times. And I'm not an old fart btw
Finnegan Posted 13 May 2011 Posted 13 May 2011 Truly Madly Deeply was done as a joke and is not an upbeat swing song.
Dan Posted 13 May 2011 Posted 13 May 2011 I know it isn't football related and I said it a couple of days ago but this is one of them anthem-like songs, and it's from one of Leicester's most famous artists. 0:25 - 0:52. That's only what, four lines? That's catchable, some decent lyrics and IMO we're onto something.

Brown Fox Posted 13 May 2011 Posted 13 May 2011 To the tune of Gold - Spandeau Ballet for Diomansy Kamara Diooo- oohh He's gonna score us some goooals He's gonna win us the league We're indestructible Always believe innnn Thought of that now and it's not up to much but I'm guessing nobody has a song to that tune so we could do something along those lines.
LCFC BEAST Posted 15 May 2011 Posted 15 May 2011 when your smiling will be a great anthem if before every game we could hold up say a piece of card and resemble something in the crowd. The picture in the crowd and all of the fans singing WYS over jersey budds song would work fine!
The Doctor Posted 15 May 2011 Posted 15 May 2011 when your smiling will be a great anthem if before every game we could hold up say a piece of card and resemble something in the crowd. The picture in the crowd and all of the fans singing WYS over jersey budds song would work fine! or we could not hold up a piece of card and instead resemble the crowd? And i don't see how that would help make WYS a great anthem.
JOHNFALLEN Posted 16 May 2011 Posted 16 May 2011 What with this and the Poznan - why must we constantly rip other clubs off?
I am Rod Hull Posted 16 May 2011 Posted 16 May 2011 What with this and the Poznan - why must we constantly rip other clubs off? Made the leap from 606 at last JOHNFALLEN (Cov lover) i see.... It doesnt look that good anyway.... Lets leave it to Man City and Celtic....
Guest Col city fan Posted 19 May 2011 Posted 19 May 2011 i think we should sing this one. Let's sing 'she bangs the drums' by the stone roses? Or 'Sally cinnamon'? No idea why, I just like these songs... Or 'miss independent' by Neyo? Any chance please?
