Guest Col city fan Posted 19 March 2011 Posted 19 March 2011 This is not a 'Sven Out' campaign However, there has been a lot of crap posted on here over the past few weeks about how magical Sven is and automatic promotion is possible etc... (see 'The Sven Revolution' for a particularly biased account..) Sven concerns me at the moment as it COULD be he is taking the club in the wrong direction. Selling Morrison, loaning out Hobbs and Schlupp, bringing-in Ricardo and the Yak. Dropping Vittor and playing Bruma today.... the list of strange decisions is becoming longer. On the plus side, Naughton is superb in my opinion, BUT I don't think he'll stay. Is Sven still being seen as a Prize or a plonker? A magician or a court jester? Is he taking the club forward or are we actually getting rid of our better longer-term assets? Discuss please
Finnegan Posted 19 March 2011 Posted 19 March 2011 Oh fuck off. It was always going to be a mammoth task to take us up, those of us with two braincells to rub together were saying this back in December. Sven took over a club in the relegation zone, with no prospects other than relegation, and he's taken us to the cusp of the play-offs. We're still only five points off and, frankly, anywhere in the top half will be a minor miracle. If you want a team to play the way you're used to you're going to need to change personnel and it's obvious the likes of Fryatt and Morrison aren't the sort of footballers that Sven wants. Who can argue?
Bugg Posted 19 March 2011 Posted 19 March 2011 Col city fan in Sven isn't the right man to take us forward we should get Grayson instead SHOCKER.
somebum Posted 19 March 2011 Posted 19 March 2011 My opinion of Sven has remained the same since England lost to Northern Ireland in a qualifying game 1-0. For some reason, Sven, in his wisdom, put Rooney out wide left - at that time, Rooney was the only one scoring for England and was our best goal threat. The game was clearly going nowhere for England but Sven would not change it at all. He just twiddled his thumbs and watched it all unfold. He has absolutely no motivational powers at all, and in order to make up for that, you need to know your tactics, but Sven falls flat on this as well. Come on, how many times did we watch England and berate him for the stupid diamond formation which any old bugger and his cat could see was not working? His agents practically beg clubs/countries to give him a job. If he was any good, what exactly is he doing HERE?
SMX11 Posted 19 March 2011 Posted 19 March 2011 He has tried to go up this season and has made many panic loan signings imo. We should have just wrote off this season and bought a couple more on permanents and steadily gel the team together over the remaining games a la QPR last season. The team is going to be down to the bare bones at the end of the season, as I don't think any of the loanees will sign and we are back at square 1. 10 in 10 out again like most seasons and no continuity.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure Ferguson was playing Rooney out on the wide left at that time too.
somebum Posted 19 March 2011 Posted 19 March 2011 Yeah, I'm pretty sure Ferguson was playing Rooney out on the wide left at that time too. Er, no he wasn't. Slightly behind the striker but certainly no Giggs like position
Guest bennytwohats Posted 19 March 2011 Posted 19 March 2011 If you thought we weren't going to have bad runs with him as our manager you're just as deluded as those who think he is a terrible manager. The truth - he is a very good manager, but despite that, still human. The people who think Sven is usesless are the same sort of people who would be calling for Wenger's head if you were Arsenal fans - idiots.

I guess thats the chance you take when you go for instant success rather than for development. I REALLY cannot understand the Ricardo signing...Yakubu could possibly still come good, but Ricardo is a joke
OriginalRobboFOX Posted 19 March 2011 Posted 19 March 2011 Svens biggest mistake.... Going on that crazy win streak to give the delusionists ammo to fuel the talk that we are going up this year. I for one one am chuffed as hell about where we are now considering where we were under Sousa... Finishing in this league and as high up as possible will be the most sensible outcome to this season.
The Doctor Posted 19 March 2011 Posted 19 March 2011 oh ffs. Sven took over a side that had lost the momentum losing in the p/o's last season, then the man who put them together and got them playing moved on to pastures new, his replacement then drove the club into the ground trying to change too much too quickly. To be sat here, still with a chance (if purely theoretical now) of the play-offs is nothing short of a miracle.

davieG Posted 19 March 2011 Posted 19 March 2011 Why suggest such black and white options, how about he's at worst a decent manager who makes mistakes.
davieG Posted 19 March 2011 Posted 19 March 2011 didnt say he was useless, just raising genuine concerns.. read the post So he must be a magician then.

Not for 1 second did I think City would ever go up under Sven. It was a lucky run probably never to be matched again. The bubble burst and he cant fix it.
MC Prussian Posted 19 March 2011 Posted 19 March 2011 I start to believe that, with us now being relatively safe from relegation, Sven has only one thing in mind with the games remaining: To experiment as much as he can with what player material he has (and that includes bringing in emergency loans at the very last minute). All this talk about still being able to make it to the playoffs is just a pretense, even though it's still possible to end the season within the Top 6.
STUHILL Posted 19 March 2011 Posted 19 March 2011 Why does he have to be either?? Such a stupid thread I think he has put together a team that was and is capable of making the play-offs. Some of his changes have been questioned but that always happens in Football. I wish people weren't so extreme in their views. Magician or Jester? wtf He has done a good job for us, not amazing, but not half bad either!

Webbo Posted 19 March 2011 Posted 19 March 2011 There's nothing wrong with asking the question. I certainly wonder about some of Sven's decisions as well. We're however not going to get anyone with a better track record so we're just going to have to trust his judgement. As for motivation, he's got Fazarckerly and the other coaches for that.

Discuss please 1) Struggling in League 1 - Makes sense 2) Young player who can gain some great first team experience - Makes sense 3) Made a great start for us, everyone was frothing at the gash when he came in and rightly so. Gone off the boil recently and maybe showing his true colours, but at the time - Makes sense 4) Vitor might be taking it easy after injury, could well have been justified. If not, fair enough, but nobody outside the club knows so irrelevant. I think your post is serious but you seem to have highlighted some of the better decisions he has made. What about persisting with Yakubu, never dropping vassell, lack of versatility, not signing a centre mid, dropping Weale in the first place (No doubt we needed another keeper bringing in, was replacing him as first choice the correct thing?).

Read the post! the concerns raised are that he may be taking the club in the wrong direction with some of his signings, his team decisions and his tactical naivety... Yes he has done well to get us up the table (although with the money at his disposal should we not have seen at least some improvement? surely...) BUT..what now? Just looking for opinions on this rather than not asking these important questions

The bubble burst and he cant fix it. That's because you're a miserable tosser. Try getting behind your team for once instead of putting them down after every bad performance. I don't think I saw you post once when we were on our unbeaten run. Maybe have a go at playing in traffic you glum twat.

Bugg Posted 19 March 2011 Posted 19 March 2011 Let's get Grayson instead, maybe Coyle, oh wait how about Pearson...they're all young managers with a point to prove.
