mat1881orient Posted 25 March 2011 Posted 25 March 2011 PLEASE HELP THE O'S - SIGN THE PETITION BY CLICKING ON THE LINK BELOW http://www.fsf.org.uk/petitions/save-orient.php Supporters' Online Petition - SAVE LEYTON ORIENT FOOTBALL CLUB We the undersigned urge the government and Mayor of London’s office to help Save Leyton Orient Football Club by reconsidering their endorsement of West Ham’s move to the Olympic Stadium. Premier League and Football League rules on ground moves clearly state a move should not “adversely affect Clubs (or Football League clubs) having their registered grounds in the immediate vicinity of the proposed location”. The London Olympic Stadium is within the “immediate vicinity” of Leyton Orient FC. NO FOOTBALL WITHOUT THE O's: SAVE LEYTON ORIENT FOOTBALL CLUB. This petition is hosted on behalf of Leyton Orient Fans' Trust and Leyton Orient Supporters' Club. Both are affiliate members of the FSF. Many thanks Mat Roper PANDAMONIUM FANZINE EDITOR LEYTON ORIENT FANS TRUST TRUSTEE
Uncle Phil Posted 25 March 2011 Posted 25 March 2011 Signed, hope you win this one. It's about time some people realised football isn't just about the Premiership.
ajthefox Posted 25 March 2011 Posted 25 March 2011 Done, hope it goes well for you. You can tell it's done the rounds on a leicester forum, there's loads of leicester at the top!
Aleksz Posted 25 March 2011 Posted 25 March 2011 Misread this as "Help Save The OS" (Official Site), thought no, not saving that bag of shit :L
purpleronnie Posted 25 March 2011 Posted 25 March 2011 So leyton orient fans will become west ham fans?
Guest bennytwohats Posted 25 March 2011 Posted 25 March 2011 Maybe i'm being simple here - it says that it shouldn't adversely affect clubs having their registered grounds in the immediate vicinity of the proposed location. It really doesn't bother to put forward much of a case as to why it will be though (adverseley affect it, that is)? I get the obvious one in principle, bigger club moves near small club and people go to watch bigger club instead - but really if people are that way inclined i doubt they'd be Orient fans anyway (no disrespect), there is already a plethora of premier league clubs in London that would be easy enough to get to for most people. That kind of assumes that people will support the biggest club nearest to them, which is a little bit too simplistic, surely? Is this alone really going to put the club under? Am i missing something?
jonthefox Posted 25 March 2011 Posted 25 March 2011 Are they suggesting orient move to the olympic stadium.? If yes, then thats a mistake of biblical proportion.
kyle09uk Posted 25 March 2011 Posted 25 March 2011 Orient in the OS yeahh right... would be a waste of a stadum, would look empty - wth an average of about 5000. Id much rather Westham get it over Tottenham atleast they want to keep the legacy of it and not knock it down. however after all this im still signing the petition, it is is about time teams outside the top flight had some recognition, Good luck.
Big Ol' Bob Posted 25 March 2011 Posted 25 March 2011 Not signing it. Imagine West Ham have knocked down their current stadium and are redeveloping Upton Park to a capacity of 60,000. They would be completely within their rights to do so. The long-term effect on Leyton Orient would be the same; West Ham would try to sell more tickets, targeting the younger people of the community and offering cheaper tickets to instigate new interest. But would that make it wrong for West Ham to redevelop? No. Leyton Orient are based in the London borough of Waltham Forest. Upton Park is in the old London borough of West Ham. The Olympic Stadium is also in the old London borough of West Ham. So West Ham are just relocating to another site within their own ‘patch’. At the moment they are about 3 miles from Brisbane Road. The Olympic Stadium is just 1 mile from Orient’s stadium. Is 2 miles going to make that much difference? I doubt it. You can stop a club form moving into your territory, but you can’t stop them from relocating within their own territory. The two have existed on the same ‘patch’ for years.
Northants Fox 3 Posted 25 March 2011 Posted 25 March 2011 Signed, Whilst i agree with some of the comments i don't agree that as per usual a Premier League side getting their way, there are 92 Teams in the Football League NOT 20
Big Ol' Bob Posted 25 March 2011 Posted 25 March 2011 "...should not adversely affect Clubs (or Football League clubs) having their registered grounds in the immediate vicinity of the proposed location. So WHY was Hearn the other week begging the comitee to give Orient the Hockey Stadium which is 500 yards closer to the Olympic Stadium?? I see that is kept quiet. Very mixed messages from Hearn, I smell a payout.
broughtonblue Posted 25 March 2011 Posted 25 March 2011 What's this doing in this thread, surely should be in general sport? The op should stop worrying, if the orient fans can't find their way round a forum they have no chance of finding their way to a different ground!
Mack Posted 26 March 2011 Posted 26 March 2011 I'm lost. The argument that Orient will die is based on the theory that all Orient fans will stop going to see them and start going to West Ham instead. Will that really happen? Or is this more about Barry Hearn, owner of Orient, using the situation to get something for free from the government? I know what I think.

From what I understand, orient are worried because they fear west ham will not be able to fill the new stadium. Therefore west ham are likely to offer massive discounts to fans, i.e lots of matches will be in the £15-£20 region. Orient are worried that lots of people from around the area would rather pay that to see premiership football (probably!) rather than the lower league opposition they play against. I can kind of see their point when looking at it this way

It's complete bollocks cooked up for Hearn to get something for sod all off the government. And the fact that Bazza would happily take the Olympic hockey stadium for free which is NEXT DOOR to the Olympic Stadium says is all.

Very valid point. Good research as well
