So how much does it cost to rent a house?

I've just signed for a house with 4 mates for next year in Sheffield and we're each paying 292 per month, that includes a phone line, a basic sky package and broadband.

Monthly bill for water, gas and electricity is supposedly around about £25 a month.

There's a slight chance I may end up in North London for a year soon, and I reckon I'll do well to find somewhere for £150 a week with bills.

At the moment I pay £350 a month in Eastbourne, which is grim for a student. And that's without bills. Still, we've got a decent house though so it doesn't bother me too much.

Depends where u wana live in north london!! i live in islington close to the emirates !! i pay 590 a month just in rent and bills are around 120 which includes c tax, sky, broadband !! but other shitty areas would be cheaper but there are some right shitholes in london , i have lived in a few(hackney wick) brixton!!

one word of warning for people looking for jobs in london after uni like i did !! dont get a jobs that pays less than 18,000/20,000 or your royally ****ed in london!!

Gonna start looking into it soonish when I possibly move into a full time position at work in a few months. Was wondering what the general cost is (it's obviously dependant on different factors) but what are we looking at per month if I were to live on my own?

I don't know a lot about this to be honest so lay it all on me you lovely people.

I manage an estate agents. PM me if you have any questions and I'll gladly answer them for you....

Fuck me I forgot how cheap the rest of the country is.

One bedroom flat in East London that I share with my girlfriend = £1,105 per month excluding bills.

Around me the cheapest I could find for a one bed was £1200-£1300! Ridiculous.

I'm paying £715 a month including bills (water, electricity and Sky) and council tax (£65 a month). That's for half a 2 bed flat. The joys of London living

5 of us pay £79 p/w with an extra £30 each a month chucked in for bills, this on West Street in Sheffield, pretty much the most happening and central area of the city.

Moving to a house in S11 next year, a good hours walk from where we are now. Looking at around £55 p/w.

Double rooms in decent shared terraced houses cost around £300 - £350 p/m including bills in Leicester. You can find cheaper but it's worth spending a little extra to get away from student type places when you're working full time. Nothing worse than having to be up at 7am and having some skinny jeaned fag in the next house start playing his guitar at 4am. You definitely don't want to be living with students. That would be ****ing horrendous.

Getting a flat on your own is the least economical way of doing things unfortunately. You're looking at £500p/m all in for somewhere half decent. Bedsits are a good idea if you need your privacy. The building just shares bathrooms. You have your own kitchen(ette). You can get these for not much more than a room in a shared house. The buildings opposite spar on fosse road south are mostly bedsits.

It must help surely.

I don't mind living in a student area, I live next to a De Mont sponsored property and we've had hot totty two years running! They're quieter and safer than the obnoxious tits that have moved in lately who just scream at their kids all evening.

Doesn't really apply unless your in certain (namely public) services.

Generally the wages are just a bit higher

I've no idea. I just get paid a wage that's decent enough to live in London, there's no official "London Weighting"

That's pretty much bang on where I'd be looking. There's an opportunity on my course for one person to work at Arsenal for a year, so anywhere near-ish to there on the Piccadilly line really. Good to know it's easily do-able on under £150 a week, the potential wage for the year is only just liveable on.

Indeed, was more a reference to the fact that it is nigh on impossible round London way. My mortgage is more than that.

Look around 7 Sisters. My cousin lived there for filth cheap and it's less than 10 minutes tube to Holloway Road/Arsenal
