mattw1 Posted 7 April 2011 Posted 7 April 2011 I could well be proven to be a moron, but has Andy King actually been confirmed to have signed a new contract? With Sven leaving him out of the team against 'boro anybody think theres something in this?
Corky Posted 7 April 2011 Posted 7 April 2011 I don't think he has. And he needed a rest, he should be back on Saturday.
Narborough_fox Posted 7 April 2011 Posted 7 April 2011 Nope he hasn't signed yet. Hoos said they were hoping to complete it within the coming days/ weeks in the merc today.

cc_star Posted 7 April 2011 Posted 7 April 2011 Where was the interest from in the January window - I seem to remember £5m being mentioned (although that was probably paper talk) I think our midfield needs looking at heavily in the summer Oakley is an OK bench player in whatever system we play, but between the 'better' players Abe, Wellens & King something is very, very wrong when the opposition has the ball, and tbh when we're up against it there is occasionally a complete lack of inventiveness when we do have the ball instead relying on the fullback's pace. I'm not really sure what the answer is, but I'm convinced we wouldn't have half the problems at the back if something changed with the midfield - More steel is needed, not only at the back but also in the middle.

I agree here regarding the midfield situation. I think we need to buy two midfielders that are combative and are strong as well that would do well in this division and this is vital for us to obtain if we are to be a top force for next season. All of our midfield, apart from Wellens are lightweights and this can sometimes not be a good thing, eg. When competing in the air.
Kitchandro Posted 8 April 2011 Posted 8 April 2011 We need a good strong holding midfielder so King and Wellens can focus on creativity, our back four is so exposed because there is no one to stop the opposition runing at us from midfield, or when they simply drop a long ball in between the defence and midfield. That's assuming King stays of course...

cc_star Posted 8 April 2011 Posted 8 April 2011 Or maybe we just need a better midfield all together! I've been wondering that However I think if we add a Lee Bowyer style player to Wellens & King we'll do just fine Someone to try & win every ball and make it very difficult for oppoents to play on the edge of our box, which they currently do with ease and then make a 5 yard pass to Wellens who can play it anywhere on the pitch (especially if he doesn't have to be to occupied with trying to win the ball)
artursteppe Posted 8 April 2011 Posted 8 April 2011 Our midfield are all lightweight including Wellens. They are all too similar - all forward going players including Yuki Abe. Neither King or Wellens are as good as people seem to think - they are OK, but are not Prem quality ( although King is still young ). I would keep Yuki and Franck Moussa ( he is still only 21 ), but we need more BITE. It is also difficult to see a way of playing Gallagher ( who is definitely not a 'wide' man ) and King in the same side. I can see two out of King, Wellens and Abe being either sold or on the bench next season.
Bugg Posted 8 April 2011 Posted 8 April 2011 Bowyer is a free next season. Don't know if he'll be past it or not but he'd be one of those little bastards we need in midfield.

Mack Posted 8 April 2011 Posted 8 April 2011 His agent has probably told him to wait to see how our season pans out before committing.
Kitchandro Posted 8 April 2011 Posted 8 April 2011 Or maybe we just need a better midfield all together! So King and Wellens aren't good enough? Rubbish.
artursteppe Posted 8 April 2011 Posted 8 April 2011 So King and Wellens aren't good enough? Rubbish. That's right! Wellens definitely NOT good enough for the Prem', possibly the bench sometimes. King has to improve a LOT!
Kitchandro Posted 8 April 2011 Posted 8 April 2011 That's right! Wellens definitely NOT good enough for the Prem', possibly the bench sometimes. King has to improve a LOT! Well I think you're wrong. The lower midtable Premiership teams would be lucky to have either of them, especially as King is young and WILL improve.

Agree 100% and I still do not know why Sven has not put Bamba in there as his style seems natural to the position. Perhaps he thinks we would miss him too much at the back at the moment but even the Hibs fans that came on after we had signed him suggested that DM was his best position.

No brainer as far as I'm concerned if that's the case, he owned Arsenal in the Carling Cup. Stepping down a div should mean his 'legginess' if he gets any wouldn't quite be so bad as in the Prem
ajthefox Posted 9 April 2011 Posted 9 April 2011 Where was all this "our midfield isn't good enough" when we won 6 out of 7 and we were climbing up the table? I don't remember anywhere near as much as what's in here, that for sure.

I don't remember anywhere near as much as what's in here, that for sure. In case you haven't noticed we've gone 1 win in 7 and talk of finishing 2nd has gone out the window almost with talk of getting in the playoffs, at this rate we could be lucky to be top half, unless our we start winning the ball, and that's for one reason, we've been sussed! Ever since halftime at Derby, teams have played in our face & they overrun our midfield with ease. If you want to live in the past before teams sussed us out, then do. but not everyone is blind to what's actually happening out on the pitch. If we had a 'hardman' type player, it would compliment Wellens' passing game & King's off the ball work very well, and not every opposition attack would end up with them amongst our defence all the time, its just common sense teambuilding.
StanSP Posted 11 April 2011 Posted 11 April 2011 Pretty sure that this is now a done deal. Excellent news.
