looper Posted 21 April 2011 Posted 21 April 2011 Afternoon. I'm a Celtic fan have a request to make. With our close ties I thought you may be interested in showing some support for our joint hero, Neil Lennon. (Yes, I know he joined Forest for a while, but we have all made mistakes...) I have a real fondness for LCFC and many at Celtic often look out for your results. I was actually at your game on Saturday against Reading. It must be bloody frustrating for you to watch an undoubtedly talented side defend so poorly. You were the better side for a lot of it. But anyway, I digress.) As I'm sure you're aware, Lennon has been subjected to a systematic campaign of sectarian abuse since his career began, but especially since he was chosen to captain his country in the prime of his career and he has since suffered death threat, a physical beating, bullets being sent through the post, fake nail bombs and now real explosive devices "designed to kill or maim" have been discovered addressed to him. I'm sure you'll agree that no human being should be subjected to this and that football fans all over the country if not the world should join together to show support for the man and his family at this time. Last night, in our match against Kilmarnock, our travelling support applauded Neil Lennon for a full two minutes, chanting 'there's only one Neil Lennon' from the 18th minute, as 18 was his squad number when playing for the Hoops. I don't know how viable this is, but I wondered if you boys and girls would be able to show a bit of solidarity in similarly supporting Neil in this way, in order to show that football will not tolerate such acts of terrorism. You could applaud him in the 7th minute, as if I remember correctly, that was his squad number at LCFC. It may not be taken up by all supporters but every little helps. It would be great if as many football fans around the country as possible showed a similar level of support for Lenny, as we all know that despite our rivalries in football, we all support the same thing-the game. All the best, Looper. Hail Hail
ozleicester Posted 21 April 2011 Posted 21 April 2011 Certainly support the idea, not sure if enough will take up the cause. The sectarianism/terrorism is horrific.
Jimmy Posted 21 April 2011 Posted 21 April 2011 can't see it happening sadly, especially with the game being at Forest, I also suspect most fans won't be aware of the incident
Houdini Logic Posted 21 April 2011 Posted 21 April 2011 I'm very proud of what Lennon has achieved, but my personal opinion is that it'd make more sense to sing a song for unity/peach rather than widening the divide by encouraging football fans around the country to applaud someone who is seen as a figurehead for one half of a very sensitive/intense conflict.
harryboi72 Posted 21 April 2011 Posted 21 April 2011 I have alot of respect for Lennon and he doesnt deserve what has happened, I would happily do the applause for him but dont think it would take off tbh
looper Posted 21 April 2011 Author Posted 21 April 2011 Thanks lads. I hope it gathers some pace. It's not about supporting one side of the great divide. I tried to post without mentioning the divide or Rangers, because hope that this is about football and that realising that some things, namely people's lives, are bigger than the rivalries that we create. I don't want you to show support for Celtic over Rangers. I wondered if you would show support for Neil Lennon over hatred and violence. A part of me hopes that the Rangers fans join in on Sunday, but I am an idealist. I hope they can put the division aside for two minutes. I respect your opinions. Regards.
Roy Cropper Posted 21 April 2011 Posted 21 April 2011 I'd rather we keep well out of the secterian shite that is decaying scottish football thank you.
marbelladave Posted 21 April 2011 Posted 21 April 2011 I'd rather we keep well out of the secterian shite that is decaying scottish football thank you. "All that is required for evil to triumph is that good men do nothing"

Princess Peach? hehe only messing, you're right though.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 21 April 2011 Posted 21 April 2011 In your list of abuses of Neil Lennon you forgot to mention "England Captain getting off Scot (apologies) free for kicking him in the head." Great idea... whether there would be enough support. Maybe contacting the Leicester Mercury at [email protected] or possibly tweeting Ian Stringer, Radio Leicester's LCFC commentator (don't know the address, but many on here do) would spread the word faster and further?
Rich Fox Posted 21 April 2011 Posted 21 April 2011 Great idea, maybe the fosse boys can chant theres only one Neil Lennon at home game on Monday and I will join in? Lennnon was a great midfielder and we would not have won anything without him so we should show our support.

Hail Hail Cant stand Celtic as a team or the fans, the bulshit anti british they come out with and singing about dead British army, and that banner they had the other month about refusing to wear the poppy, when really half there grandads were in the second world war, fighting for us, These fans are SCUM

Thanks Trav, I will do. Sounds like an idea. And maybe the home game on monday would be ideal. I appreciate the support lads. Lestajigs, I can understand how things may have been reported in the press about Celtic, but we don't sing songs about dead British soldiers. There is a problem with sectarianism in Scotland, and right-minded fans of football want to see it resolved. This is just one small way of those fans showing that they support this concept and support a man who has done a lot for both clubs and been through a lot in order to be involved in the game he loves, for the clubs he loves. I don't have the prejudices about English football fans that many around the world do, because I know that 99.9% of them are sound. Sadly, the minority always seems to get the press. Sad you feel that way about Celtic, but you seem set in your views, which is your prerogative. I will contact the mercury and hope it gets picked up. Cheers.
muzzy1981 Posted 21 April 2011 Posted 21 April 2011 Nice idea. The distinction needs to be made that Leicester fans aren't taking sides but that a former player/legend is in the thoughts of the fans whilst he and his family are going through an awful time.

blueblood88 Posted 21 April 2011 Posted 21 April 2011 I think you need to do a bit of research on the subject before going off like this, otherwise you're just as narrow minded as the people you're moaning about celtic fans are scum, thats what the rivalry with celtic and rangers is about, celtic being anti-english; chanting IRA at games, being catholic, many of their fans are from Northern Ireland, and Rangers are Protestant, support the British Army, hence why they raise the Union jack every time they score at Ibrox
Haydos Posted 21 April 2011 Posted 21 April 2011 celtic fans are scum, thats what the rivalry with celtic and rangers is about, celtic being anti-english; chanting IRA at games, being catholic, many of their fans are from Northern Ireland, and Rangers are Protestant, support the British Army, hence why they raise the Union jack every time they score at Ibrox They're probably all like that.
Liamlcfc1 Posted 21 April 2011 Posted 21 April 2011 iam shure if we chant one neil lennon at florist they would join in too
lestajigs Posted 21 April 2011 Posted 21 April 2011 I think you need to do a bit of research on the subject before going off like this, otherwise you're just as narrow minded as the people you're moaning about I done my research thanks, are you telling me these half witts are right for being so anti british, and don't you say there not!!
Kitchandro Posted 21 April 2011 Posted 21 April 2011 I done my research thanks, are you telling me these half witts are right for being so anti british, and don't you say there not!! Don't be silly, all Scottish people hate the English.

Only a minority take the rivalry beyond football. Football is about football, politics and religion don't come into it.
Narborough_fox Posted 21 April 2011 Posted 21 April 2011 I'm a Rangers supporter but I agree with everything that was said, after all no human life should be put in danger and for such silly reasons (so to speak) is frankly disgusting. I hope whoever has done this to Lennon really feels bad about themselves because no matter if he became a Celtic player/ manager his life shoudn't be put at risk for what really is a game.
Salieri Posted 21 April 2011 Posted 21 April 2011 Don't be silly, all Scottish people hate the English. Yeah, just ask LargeAl. Oh wait..... He's English born and bred.
