Neil Lennon-A Request from a Celtic Fan

Recommended Posts

This really isn't about Celtic and or the religous issues behind the team and some of it's fans.

This is about us supporting an ex-player and making a moral standpoint to show that these kind of acts shouldn't be tolerated, regardless of who the player is and what their background is.

I'll happily take part and this, I just hope there's enough who know about it to get it going.

Some of you are completely misunderstanding the point of this.

Its not about taking sides with catholics, protestants, celtic or rangers, but showing that no matter the reason, no ones life should be in danger, let alone the amount of peoples lives these idiots risked - mail staff etc.

All of you laying into Celtic fans, who sent the bombs? I can bet you it wasn't a celtic supporter.

If the coin was flipped, and it was a protestant manager etc that had been targeted, the same should and hopefully would be done for them.

I done my research thanks, are you telling me these half witts are right for being so anti british, and don't you say there not!!

If you read into the subject you might understand their explanation for being anti British and that's the point I'm making. I personally believe they have a reason to be 'anti british' (I'm talking about Ireland and NI here), but I also believe the lengths they've taken it to (singing about dead british soldiers) are disgusting.

A good place to start would be around the 1600's, with the English exportation of 'planters' to Ireland (with the only condition being they were englsih speaking and protestant). You'll find this is the start of the English 'watering down' the existing (predominantly catholic) population and trying to breed a population of British loyalists who would want to create a 'unified' kingdom and rob Ireland of it's independence (also see 'home rule').

I won't go into more detail because this isn't the right place (it certainly isn't the right forum) and it's also the start of an 11 day holiday for m so I'm going out to get really drunk.

Hope Lennon keeps at it and doesn't let these arseholes get to him, but I won't be applauding or singing tomorrow for the very reasons laid out in my first post (and nothing to do with any subsequent posts)

Not saying that at all, some are. but some may well have a reason why.

Those on this forum opposing this are absolutely ridiculous. Of course Celtic have their moronic element but refusing such an honourable request isn't going to change that. As others have said this thread is nothing to do with Scottish sectarianism.

I'd be delighted to do what I can for a bloke who was such a City legend. He's got b*ll*cks the size of watermelons for putting up with all he has done up there.

celtic fans are scum, thats what the rivalry with celtic and rangers is about, celtic being anti-english; chanting IRA at games, being catholic, many of their fans are from Northern Ireland, and Rangers are Protestant, support the British Army, hence why they raise the Union jack every time they score at Ibrox

well it's not.

oh and being pedantic - it's not the union jack, i know scotland is pretty damn rainy but the flag isn't quite being raised over sea so it's just a union flag (and a decent alternative to toilet paper)

How does football get dragged into shit like this?

Reminds me of how football should be that.

Like I said earlier, the people who make football rivalries about Politics and religion and not about football, to the point where there are death threats and the suchlike, aren't real football fans.

Excellent gesture and this transcends politics and all of the ugliness of the minorities within Celtic's support. Using the latter as an excuse is irrelevant anyway, because this is about supporting one man, a man who gave his all in 170 games for us.

Neil Lennon is a bona fide Leicester legend, a vital part of the greatest Leicester City midfield I have ever had the fortune to watch. What he has had to put up with in Scotland because of bigoted morons is absolutely disgraceful and as already said, the man must have balls like spacehoppers to still be there and not walking away from the game altogether. This shows the passion he has for the game that made him a great player at Filbert Street and Parkhead alike hasn't diminished and for that, he deserves praise north and south of the border.

Unfortunately I can't attend tomorrow's game because of work commitments, but I'll try and get this campaign as much exposure as I personally can.

You realise this thread was aimed at supporting Neil Lennon not discussing the rival between the old firm and the reason for it, also saying a whole set of fans is scum seems a little harsh every club has a minortoy that go over the top and are idiots we do for god sake try looking in the mirror before you go off on one!!!!

Afternoon.

I'm a Celtic fan have a request to make. With our close ties I thought you may be interested in showing some support for our joint hero, Neil Lennon. (Yes, I know he joined Forest for a while, but we have all made mistakes...) I have a real fondness for LCFC and many at Celtic often look out for your results. I was actually at your game on Saturday against Reading. It must be bloody frustrating for you to watch an undoubtedly talented side defend so poorly. You were the better side for a lot of it. But anyway, I digress.)

As I'm sure you're aware, Lennon has been subjected to a systematic campaign of sectarian abuse since his career began, but especially since he was chosen to captain his country in the prime of his career and he has since suffered death threat, a physical beating, bullets being sent through the post, fake nail bombs and now real explosive devices "designed to kill or maim" have been discovered addressed to him.

I'm sure you'll agree that no human being should be subjected to this and that football fans all over the country if not the world should join together to show support for the man and his family at this time.

Last night, in our match against Kilmarnock, our travelling support applauded Neil Lennon for a full two minutes, chanting 'there's only one Neil Lennon' from the 18th minute, as 18 was his squad number when playing for the Hoops.

I don't know how viable this is, but I wondered if you boys and girls would be able to show a bit of solidarity in similarly supporting Neil in this way, in order to show that football will not tolerate such acts of terrorism.

You could applaud him in the 7th minute, as if I remember correctly, that was his squad number at LCFC. It may not be taken up by all supporters but every little helps.

It would be great if as many football fans around the country as possible showed a similar level of support for Lenny, as we all know that despite our rivalries in football, we all support the same thing-the game.

All the best,

Looper.

Hail Hail

Thanks to all who have taken this in the way it was intended. A show of support for Neil Lennon- A hero we share. :appl:

I would love for this to take off and to have as much backing as possible, and I'm sure those who are going to the game could definitely get something started.

If possible, as a previous poster indicated, you could all do something to publicise this, by any means- facebook, twitter, texts whatever it may be- please do.

It would be appreciated and I'm certain that the news would filter back to Lenny. Especially if the F*rest fans joined in!

All the best for the game tonight. Lenny will be watching!

One Neil Lennon!

Will gladly show support for Lennon at Monday's game, quality player along with Izzet in the middle of the park.

As for Lenny at Forest....well we all make mistakes, Walshie went to Coventry, Savage went to Derby, Muzzy went to Brum, Yakubu went to Leicester.

There's only one Neil Lennon.

Hi everyone!!

I'm new to this forum and can only appologise if this has been posted in the wrong thread.

I was hoping to appeal to your better nature as football fans! dont know if any of you are aware of the current situation in scotland with celtic manager Neil Lennon being sent bombs in the post?!

On wednesday night the celtic support had a 2 minute applaud and sang 1 Neil Lennon.

I was going to ask if its possible if the Leicester fans could do this this weekend? its would be greatly appreciated the more coverage of support for Neil the better as far as I am concerned.

Its time to show football fans united at the end of the day thats what it is about football not race or religion!! there is no reason why he should be treated like a second class citizen i would be extremley greatful if you could help with this - any questions please feel free to ask.

Yes, it's already been discussed on here, but merging the threads - and bumping it in the process - can't do any harm.
