acooling08 Posted 22 April 2011 Posted 22 April 2011 (From the game today) What do people, and Sven, see in this bumbling waste of space? He's slow, wasteful, useless in the air, barely scores. The list goes on and on. I'd pay Everton 20'000 a week to have him back. Anyone enlighten me? Cheers. His slogan should be: 'When I ain't scorin', I ain't doin' nuthin'.
Fox92 Posted 22 April 2011 Posted 22 April 2011 He isn't a rubbish player, far from it. He can turn a chance into a goal. He is our only natural goalscorer and only threat. He may not have scored, but did he get any decent service either, or anyone supporting him? No. 7 goals in 16 games is not bad from a player that 'hardly scores'. If I told you that Yakubu would be on loan at Leicester at the beggining of the season, you would have snapped my hand off.
Finnegan Posted 22 April 2011 Posted 22 April 2011 I honestly don't think it's that he doesn't care, I just think that's his demeanor. I just think he's a decent player who is utterly bereft of confidence and fitness and unfortunately he came too late in our season to play him in to either.

Exactly, I don't think there are any players in our team who are real playmakers. Wellens is probably the only one who can play lovely through balls, but the rest of the team seem to play the long ball or just obvious short passes when the Yak is being so heavily marked.

Like i've said in another thread, teams in this division know about him and double up on him, it must be frustrating for the player too, as most of the time it's just him running at them alone with no players making runs off the ball, as an outlet. Excusing his slips and trips today it was the same old same old in that respect but he did look jaded and uninterested for some reason.
Legend_in_blue Posted 22 April 2011 Posted 22 April 2011 He isn't Premiership quality. He's barely good enough for this division. But he's quality because of what he's achieved in the past. This overrides any logical explanation for why he is so poor. Obviously.

I think he does care, he gets very wound up when he misses his chances, it is just a matter of fitness. After 20 minutes he looks fooked, when he first joined and scored a few he was busy up front and working defenders, now he just looks a bit afraid to make a mistake.
Guest NGoloMode Posted 22 April 2011 Posted 22 April 2011 I think he's just passed his best. He's most probably older than 28 and on the decline as a footballer. In his prime he was one of the best in the Premier League but age has caught up with him I think. He lumbers about like he's in his mid 30's.. doesn't have the pace he used to. I can only imagine Sven is naive in thinking he is really 28.

LCFCmatt Posted 22 April 2011 Posted 22 April 2011 Shouted "Get 'em off!" after 5 minutes to Yakubu and Kamara. Useless.

If you rule out his 1 good performance against Boro then his tally looks feeble. Yes I would of done, but now I'd tell you to fvck off!

Why should it be a matter of fitness though? He's been here long enough and had enough game time to be fully fit, it's no excuse.
STEVIE B Posted 22 April 2011 Posted 22 April 2011 Managed to have brief chat with Ian Marshall at half time, he just said ' Yakubu's a lazy bastard ! ' I agree, despite the result it was nice to see us have 10 outfield players at least putting in some effort after Yak was replaced by Vassell !!
Donut Posted 22 April 2011 Posted 22 April 2011 People equate running around like a headless chicken ala Hume as passion, effort and quality. Ultimately the Yak has achieved a good strike rate here and really is the best alternative we have.

themotivator Posted 22 April 2011 Posted 22 April 2011 half a season at the club, score hat-trick and wonder goal against sheep shaggers, average nearly one goal every 2 games = fat lazy shit bastard.

He is so wasteful of chances and contributes nothing AT ALL outside of the opposing half. He has only scored in 1 game out of his last 11 games!!
Kitchandro Posted 22 April 2011 Posted 22 April 2011 He's got a lot of talent, but a lot of the time he is a waste of space. Such a frustrating player. The problem is when he doesn't score he doesn't help the team at all. That is costly. My opinion is we shouldn't sign him even if he did want to come.

Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 22 April 2011 Posted 22 April 2011 Yakubu is garbage. Think I can run quicker than him and certainly can stay on my feet. Even if we have to keep paying his wages I wouldnt have him around, especailly now the season is over.
