Wellens named Media POTY.

Not surprised at this.. As I mentioned on Saturday he's been our most consistent player IMO.

Great news on Wellens' awards. Now we get more money for him, ( pleeeaase ), when he is sold to a Prem club this summer.

Didn't he just sign a new contract? :dunno::ermm:

If we play 4-4-2 next season we cannot have King and Wellens as the central two. That means one of the following. One King or Wellens plays a narrow wide role. Two King or Wellens are on the bench every game. Three either King or Wellens will get sold.

pleased for Wellens, he is on his day too good for this league!

I agree. Robbie Savage said a few months ago that Wellens was the best midfielder in the division. Glad Wellens won it, I did vote for him :D He has been consistant for us all season.

Did anyone see late kick off? Yakubu in a suit and dicky bow, he looked like someone out of James Bond or something lol

Not a day goes by when Savage doesn't describe somebody new as "the best in the division"

At his best Wellens is a decent player but he's rarely at his best and generally takes too many touches and has too little effect. He's not the greatest defensive player anyway, scores very few goals and usually opts out of shooting and isn't much good when he does shoot.

Rating Wellens so highly is the sort of judgement which, over the years, has kept us where we are for so long.

Wellens is our most combative midfeld player and that's all. Some City fans warm to anyone who's combative - and even warmed to Tiatto who was probably even more aggressive.

Truth is though that you need more than competiitiveness to make a winning team. Most importantly you need goals, especially from strikers/midfielders, and Wellens doesn't score enough. Nor does Abe or Oakley.

Totally agree.

Pity most of our fans think the total opposite!

I do agree...but I think he's the best we have currently at what he does. We absolutely need a stronger, dominant ball-winner in the central midfield area. A big tough nut who will win the ball and lay it off.

I agree... In my opinion, we need an expierienced ball winning midfielder.

Look at what Wellens does, near enough everything in midfield expect score goals (which he isn't there to do). King doesn't get stuck in or tackle, and if it was me, he'd be the one to be dropped, Abe gets in people's faces which is good, and Wellens does win the ball back - Look at Nottingham Forest away, his charging down led to Oakley's goal.

Next season though, I'd like to see Abe, Wellens and a tough ball winning midfielder in midfield. Thats with that 4-3-3/4-5-1 formation.

I think Wellens is a fantastic player.

I agree he isn't a defensive midfielder, I think he is sort of attacking (when he plays more forward, such as at Hull away, and yesterday against Ipswich he is a real driving force) although he doesn't score enough goals.

Andy King is the one for me who is overrated. What is his position? Although he scores goals he isn't an attacking midfider because he hasn't got the pace and strength to beat any player, where as when you watch players like Steven Gerrard and Iniesta, they seem to fly past players. Thats why I think King is more defensive, but he doesn't get stuck in or tackle.

The people who critisize Wellens should have a look at what he does, study him. When he goes off, like yesterday, the midfield looses energy, creativity and Wellens' intelligence of moving about and creating space. His close control is very, very good and I think he is the most skillfull player in the squad.

You do need goals from midfielders, but Wellens isnt that type of player. I do think we need a ball winning midfielder though, as well as a couple of other positions that I have mentioned in other threads.
