the_fosse Posted 30 May 2011 Posted 30 May 2011 So today see's Reading line up against Swansea at Wembley and of course we are all thinking what if? It would be great to be down there today, hoping for promotion. But what will be will be. Brendan Rodgers however will be there today and he is lining up against his former side Reading. Now I' m not suggesting he is responsible for Reading's place in the final today but what I am suggesting is that his footballing philosophy was planted at Reading and it is McDermott that transferred that philosophy into a winning formula. Rodgers is a great coach, recommended by Jose Mourinho of course and I think he should take a lot of the plaudits for todays line up. Of course here at Leicester, before Nigel Pearson was appointed, Rodgers was linked to manage at the Walkers. Who knows what would have happened here if such an appointment would have gone ahead. We'll never know but here's a snippet of what the man has achieved, Brendans Final: http://sportales.com/soccer/the-final-that-brendan-built/
Matt Posted 30 May 2011 Posted 30 May 2011 What if MON stayed for an extra few years, where would we be now? What if NP didn't leave/get pushed?
The Doctor Posted 30 May 2011 Posted 30 May 2011 What if Sousa had looked to slowly build on NP's foundations rather than making the changes he did as quickly as he did? Rodgers appears to have found his place at swansea but his reading side were poor. Things could very easily have been worse for us had rodgers been appointed instead of NP so i'm not sure what the point of this thread is.
Mack Posted 30 May 2011 Posted 30 May 2011 Rodgers is nothing special in my opinion. Even Sousa managed to make Swansea look tidy. The squad there is superb. If you look at Roger's record at Reading where some Managerial skill was needed and not just coaching ability you can see where he lets himself down. McDermott at Reading deserves a lot of credit for what he has done.
Guest Bilo Posted 30 May 2011 Posted 30 May 2011 Ah but what if our form hadn't gone belly up in the 1962-1963 season and we'd gone on to win the double, going on to build a reputation as one of England's biggest clubs? We'd have appointed Jose Mourinho and won the bloomin' league. There's absolutely no way of knowing what would have happened. Rodgers was absolute gash at Reading and he might have been here, he could have been brilliant. He could have caught syphilis from a hooker down Narborough Road, we'll never know. Silly thread.
Corky Posted 30 May 2011 Posted 30 May 2011 It's all very hypothetical, it wasn't as though he was that close to taking over. Sven can do an equally good job.
MPH Posted 30 May 2011 Posted 30 May 2011 What if Welsh teams played in their own leagues instead of the ENGLISH premier league?
Finchy Posted 30 May 2011 Posted 30 May 2011 I'd say you have to give a lot of credit to Martinez for the way Swansea play football.
shailen Posted 30 May 2011 Posted 30 May 2011 Part of the reason we were so shit at the start of the season under sousa, was because our players were used to a more hoofball system under pearson than a passing style. It takes time for a squad to gel and get used to a new style, and no manager can change that. If sven hadnt signed the players he did and we played the style we did under sousa, we would have been relegated. Bottom line is we played a system that our players couldnt play!

Webbo Posted 30 May 2011 Posted 30 May 2011 I always wonder how things would have turned out if Harry Redknapp had accepted our managers job, that he was offered, when Peter Taylor was sacked. We'll never know now though.
leicesterisme Posted 30 May 2011 Posted 30 May 2011 Get over it, they've been here for years now. They were in my opinon the best team in the league this season, obviously not reflected by the league position i know that. I'm English but I'm happy for Swansea, I personally see it as a positive because it gives us more of a chance of promotion next season as they are a fantastic side.
The Year Of The Fox Posted 30 May 2011 Posted 30 May 2011 I agree its perhaps another team less that we will have to worry about next season. Thats the only positive though. Norwich have been the best team IMO
Ozwin Posted 30 May 2011 Posted 30 May 2011 Table don't lie, QPR were definately the best side in the division. All the teams that have gone up have thoroughly deserved it mind.

Exactly the best three clubs went up. We lost 5/6 games we played against these teams so it could eliminate the competition to an extent.

I've always pronounced 'narborough road' as 'nob road'. just thought I'd share.

Mack Posted 3 June 2011 Posted 3 June 2011 What if Welsh teams played in their own leagues instead of the ENGLISH premier league? Please forgive me. I asked Billy Bob not to post on here but he would not listen...
