Ric Flair Posted 14 June 2011 Posted 14 June 2011 Makes me wonder where Gally will play if we make this signing, their both playing pretty much the same position at the moment Sven might be looking to go 4-4-2 next season with Gallagher out wide and Nugent up front.
Libertine Posted 14 June 2011 Posted 14 June 2011 Sven might be looking to go 4-4-2 next season with Gallagher out wide and Nugent up front. That or Gall - ?Yak? - Nuge. Good to have the option to switch. Don't think Vassell will be an automatic starter next year anyhow..
Kent Posted 14 June 2011 Posted 14 June 2011 I think Gally is more suited to RM than on the wing anyway. Very little pace or ability to go past someone, great technically though.
Halfsy Posted 14 June 2011 Posted 14 June 2011 Nugent agreed terms yesterday and has had a medical today. Cracking signing on a free, Pompey's top-scorer with 14 in all comps and beat off competition from Bolton and Blackpool amongst others. Work-rate, relatively good in the air and fairly quick, will score goals in this division. He was on £25k a week at Fratton Park, though, but caused us problems in both the 6-1 drubbing and their 1-0 win at The Walkers. Forest won't renew Robert Earnshaw's contract, thought to be around £13k a week with Crystal Palace apparently keen. I think we should attempt to sign him, always been a fan of his. The Yak deal is NOT happening, he is waiting on an offer from Fenerbahce and has no intention to play in the Championship.
sphericalfox Posted 14 June 2011 Posted 14 June 2011 Makes me wonder where Gally will play if we make this signing, their both playing pretty much the same position at the moment I have seen Nugent play on the left wing and then switch mid game to the right. He also plays obviously upfront, and no doubt would prefer to be there. So in answer I think he is a good addition as he is flexible with two good feet. Exactly what we need to change a match, or through the opposition defence a curve ball mid-game. Gally will likely play right wing with Nugent on the left for a 4-3-3, or perhaps Nugent up top, should we hire a Kamara-type. Though the same could be said for the 4-4-2 which Sven likes to employ
MikeyT Posted 14 June 2011 Posted 14 June 2011 No problems with the medical I'm told. Good news. Cheers for all the info you are able to give us mate.

80footgiraffe Posted 14 June 2011 Posted 14 June 2011 Good news. Cheers for all the info you are able to give us mate. Yh, we'd be lost without you mate. Do you think the yak'll be here nest season though? Sorry
artursteppe Posted 14 June 2011 Posted 14 June 2011 Gallagher's best position is central, i.e. where Andy King plays - he isn't a winger, nor is he a striker ( he 'ducks' instead of heading ). Andy King hinted a few weeks ago that the players may have to get used to some rotation through next season because of the quality players expected this summer. Wherever 'Gally' plays, it may not be every match.
Liamlcfc1 Posted 14 June 2011 Posted 14 June 2011 No problems with the medical I'm told. when will it be confirmed ?
Bob Weasel Fox Posted 14 June 2011 Posted 14 June 2011 Heres hoping its the start of some quality incoming players

Liamlcfc1 Posted 14 June 2011 Posted 14 June 2011 IanStringerBBC Ian StringerMissed out on annual trip to Royal Ascot. Gutted. Usually some lovely fillies on show. Off camel racing instead. #lcfc no signings yet, fact please tell me he is winding us up
funkyrobot Posted 14 June 2011 Posted 14 June 2011 Underwhelming goalscoring ratio of 1 goal every 4 games. Meant to have a bit of an attitude (redknapp and magilton have questioned it). Not sure why everyone is so excited about buying yet another forward who isnt renowned for scoring a lot of goals?

funkyrobot Posted 14 June 2011 Posted 14 June 2011 Because most people don't see him as being our 'main' striker. Since when do we have to have a 'main' striker and one that doesn't score many goals though? Surely it would be better to have two complimentary players up front who are both a real goal threat?

Surely it would be better to have two complimentary players up front who are both a real goal threat? I think that's precisely what Sven is seeking to do. Finding the right combo, may in fact better Nugent's record, especially with quality around him. With patience we will all see what Sven intentions and plans are.

Surely it would be better to have two complimentary players up front who are both a real goal threat? Yak is the poacher who is capable of getting the 20+ a season, whereas Nugent is the type who will work and move more and chip in with a decent 12 or so. Nothing wrong with that really, sounds perfectly complimentary.
