Not sure why everyone is so excited about buying yet another forward who isnt renowned for scoring a lot of goals? Dig out his Championship goalscoring record. Good at this level. Your record is taking into account his spell in the PL.
funkyrobot Posted 14 June 2011 Posted 14 June 2011 Yak is the poacher who is capable of getting the 20+ a season, whereas Nugent is the type who will work and move more and chip in with a decent 12 or so. Nothing wrong with that really, sounds perfectly complimentary. We don't own yak. Currently our strike force appears to be virtually entirely made up of support strikers, i.e. those who don't get classed as 'main' due to having a less than impressive goalscoring ratio.

I don't think Sven is done in terms of signings yet, do you? I agree the squad is hardly ready as it is. Most people are merely saying that Nugent is a decent bet on a free, I don't think many people would see him as being our central striker next year.

I also took into account his 18 goals in 88 appearances for bury. If we want to get promotion then maybe we need to look at a higher standard than simply being good at championship level. Don't get me wrong, I really hope he does well, he just needs to score more goals!

I'm not sure going abroad is necessarily such a bad risk with quality scouting but I accept there isn't a massive amount of obvious choice in the uk. Mackail smith is good at posh for a start and I'm sure there's some quality players hidden in the reserves of many pl clubs that simply need a chance.

Just used for Soccerbase for the following...Nugent's Preston + Portsmouth Championships seasons equal to 52 goals in 156 appearances. 1 in 3 Out of interest Maynard is 103 apps, 38 goals. So 1 in 2.7 ish.

dan77 Posted 14 June 2011 Posted 14 June 2011 I think he would be a good signing, probably not the first player that springs to mind but if we partner him up with a goalscorer his vision to pick a ball out could be deadly with the right person!! On a free transfer he will be great, plus if he's only 26 that's a bargain! Him with Maynard or the yak would be awesome! Or even a 3 man front line with him yak and vassell! Awesome!!
