RyanB89 Posted 13 June 2011 Posted 13 June 2011 That's not really how it works though is it? We may save a small amount, but I imagine that Nugent will cost more in wages/signing on fee as he knows City haven't had to pay a fee. Excellent signing if this happens. Exactly the sort of calibre of player we need to be filling our squad with if we're going to challenge. Huh?
leicesterisme Posted 13 June 2011 Posted 13 June 2011 Solid signing that. I'd expect that we will sign better players, but Nugent will be very useful as a squad player as I've said before.
Christoph Posted 13 June 2011 Posted 13 June 2011 Nugent is short of class, short of pace and wherever he goes he will be short of goals. One goal in about three in the Championship isn't much to crow about- and it's an indictment of the dire playing state we find ourselves in that fans want him to stay.If he is going to Leicester, then I pity him. What a truly awful place to live. ... Was Nuge fit for that first season? Didn't he have a long-standing hernia prob? Not defending him, but I was right behind his run when he scored at Swansea - one of the top three Pompey goals of the season for me. I am not a nugent fan ,he misses too many easy chances to be a good striker ,but I remember, when he first came available at Preston,Most posters on here were clamouring for him to be signed ,the same people now say he was the worst buy ever .So much for their judgement then. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!shit! we cannot afford to lose Nugent! PFC should be trying to do all they can to keep him here. We are consigning ourselves to relegation if we do not keep him. wait!, scratch that. let him go, his shit anyway. Not sure how I feel on this one. A large wage off the books, but will be difficult to replace. This is especially true if there is a transfer embago. The only player in our squad capable of producing something out of the blue. He will be missed, that's for sure. I'm not devastated to see him go. He did well last season, but I think a fresh start for PFC and Nugent is what's needed. As Cotterill said 'He's not a goalscorer, he's a scorer of spectacular goals'. We need a consistent goalscorer - we finished last season scoring on average 1 goal avery 2 games which needs to be improved upon drastically. GRUMPYDELLDAYS76 Posted on 10/06/2011 15:36Nugent on his way then You could well have been relegated without Nugents goals. We could have indeed grumps, i think he's a decent player but not prem quality. I think theres alot out there just as good as him and about half his wages Seems the general reception from other fans on portsmouth forums for anyone curious about him in the eyes of their fans, though obviously as he has left they are more likely to be bitter about it.
the new guy Posted 13 June 2011 Posted 13 June 2011 kinda strange seeing as we have waggy and vessel who are just as good in my opinion
Webbo Posted 13 June 2011 Posted 13 June 2011 I always thought he was similar to Fryatt, and I was a Fryatt fan. At one time he was the next big thing but he seems to have gone off the boil. Not unhappy with this, just not sure.
HoustonFox Posted 13 June 2011 Posted 13 June 2011 Could be a good signing to go with the "less mobile" Yak. Just some movement on the transfer market is pretty good. I guess holidays are coming to an end and things will start moving again now....
Collymore Posted 13 June 2011 Posted 13 June 2011 I was never a massive fan and I think he peaked when he was younger. He should do some sort of job for us in the championship but I can't see him hacking it in the premiership if we get promoted. Saying all of this, I hope he does prove me wrong and I'll support him 100%

Think what bert means is that if we have bought a player, we'd have had to have paid wages, signing in fee and transfer fee. So because we have got a player without having to pay a fee that money can be used elsewhere ie on the yaks wages. So it does work that way, I'd have thought.
StarFox Posted 13 June 2011 Posted 13 June 2011 Nugent, Yakubu and Kamara/Maynard. Sometimes I wonder why people support Leicester City when they want a whole new team.
Buggsteam Posted 13 June 2011 Posted 13 June 2011 I love Leicester fans. The guy hasn't even signed yet and were all ready slating him. We going to do this for every play that could be a possible signing? How do you know he won't be a star player next season. He may not have the best goals to game ratio in the past but if we get some decent players in providing him the ball who knows he may turn that around. Or is this going to be a ricardo situation that we get on his back and start booing him. It's a good job these players don't read these boards as no one would sign for us. I have faith in Sven and proud to support any player who puts our shirt on that's willing to put a shift in for the team.
Cat Burger Posted 13 June 2011 Posted 13 June 2011 That Palace goal was outrageous, therefore I'm pleased we now have a player who has that direct running in his locker.

Adster Posted 13 June 2011 Posted 13 June 2011 If Sven see's good in him then that's good enough for me. I trust Sven's judgement. Sven knows more about Nugent than anyone on this forum, give him a chance before you slate the man for christs sake. I'm sure QPR where jizzing everywhere when they signed Shaun Derry and Jamie Mackie, now look where they are
superfox1980 Posted 13 June 2011 Posted 13 June 2011 Better than what we've currently got at the club. If we get the Yak as well I can see that being a fruitful partnership. Great bit of business IMO.

purpleronnie Posted 13 June 2011 Posted 13 June 2011 Man there are some boring ****ers, so what if some fans post that they dont rate him or would have prefered not to sign him its a forum where people post their views, it would be a pretty dull place if everyone had the same opinion.
ScouseFox Posted 13 June 2011 Posted 13 June 2011 I'm well pleased with this, I've always been a fan of his, I liked his cocky celebration at our place this year as well.

ScouseFox Posted 13 June 2011 Posted 13 June 2011 I'm glad you liked it, I wanted to knock him out! Haha, I wasn't keen at the time either, but I like it when a player gets on the opposition's crowd's nerves and wums a bit. I liked Kasper Schemeicel when he laughed and took the piss out of "you're shit, ahhh" as well. Just the sort of thing I'd like to see on our team, almost like passion, I guess.
Guest ttfn Posted 13 June 2011 Posted 13 June 2011 Think what bert means is that if we have bought a player, we'd have had to have paid wages, signing in fee and transfer fee. So because we have got a player without having to pay a fee that money can be used elsewhere ie on the yaks wages. So it does work that way, I'd have thought. II'm not doubting we've saved money compared to spending £1m on a player and then paying his wages and signing fee. But what I'm saying is that if we had to choose between a £1m spend on a player of the equivalent ability of Nugent and Nugent himself on a free, the saving by taking Nugent on a free instead is not £1m. We'll be paying larger wages than we would do for a player that we'd paid a fee for. It's how the transfer market, and in particular Bosman, works. Ultimately, players (and more particularly their agents) aren't stupid, and know that a player has an intrinsic value to a club, transfer fee or no transfer fee. Nugent will expect a proportion of the £1m (hypothetical) saving over the length of his contract in increased signing fee and wages. Anyway, this is boring. Hoping he does the business.
Babylon Posted 13 June 2011 Posted 13 June 2011 When I've seen him in this league he's been pretty good, people shouldn't confuse his performances in the premier with what he's capable of in this league.
Ric Flair Posted 13 June 2011 Posted 13 June 2011 There's genuine talent there. If Sven can get him to improve then we'll be laughing. Keen as botchulism.
21st Century Fox Posted 13 June 2011 Posted 13 June 2011 This could be a really good bit of business. 14 goals in all competitions for a team that finished 16th. If he gels into the team when we're firing on all cylinders like we were at times last season, he could really do some damage to teams. He can also pull things out of nowhere on his day. Not a bad first acquisition if it goes through.

Yes you're right, I suppose we don't mind when its one of our players! I for one would be happy to see him in the squad.
