Cause everywhere else he's been, he's scored goals. Should we just spend £3million on anyone now then just to satisfy fans who want big money signings?

ballso Posted 17 June 2011 Posted 17 June 2011 really don't understand why some fans are complaining. if we went after bigger names people would say they are only coming here for a payday, yet when we go for younger players with potential and hunger they aren't good enough! you can't win, it's so frustrating. reiterate my belief that nugent and derbyshire would be good signings for us.

Utter nonsense, he's scored goals in the Premiership, unlike most of the people we are linked with, and he's actually had the balls to move overseas for first team football, which is more than most English players would do these days. He's played for a huge club over there, and the fact that he went there rather than sitting on the sidelines at some lower Premiership team picking up his wages does him a lot of credit. He'll be a good signing as is exactly the sort of player coming in that I was expecting.
Halfsy Posted 17 June 2011 Posted 17 June 2011 Judging by a quick watch of some goals of his at Olympiakos, don't expect him to be firing in 30 yarders every game, he seems like one of those players who is always in the right place, right time to score. I'm a little underwhelmed by this, seems an unknown quantity to me. Could well be a similar ilk to Tony Cottee, a natural poacher. But i trust Sven, whole-hearedly. Would support this type of signing, just hope we can bring Maynard and Nugent in too.
Father Ted Posted 17 June 2011 Posted 17 June 2011 Mixed emotions. Not got the greatest goalscoring record but that was in the Premiership mainly with hoof ball Blackburn. Whenever I've seen him I've been fairly impressed, pretty pacy and full of energy. He could be a beast at this level.

I'm willing to stay open on this one though, I don't think he can be deemed a bad transfer at this stage.

I'm willing to stay open on this one though, I don't think he can be deemed a bad free transfer at this stage. Take away his spell at birmingham, he has a strike rate of roughly one in three. Might not be really, really prolific. But it's good enough to get us out the second tier of English football.

We're bolstering the offense, but I'd love to see the midfield and defense taken care of, too. Soon... Sven's going for the young and hungry instead of the hungry.

I agree.. I personally would go for younger players with the 'hunger' you speak of. Both nugent and Derbyshire would be good signings IMO. My memory of Derbyshire is of an out and out striker, with a sniffers instinct for goal, or a right sided attacking midfielder/ winger. He's scored goals wherever he's been. As for the poster above who claims that such players are not of sufficient quality for us... Who do you want to see down here? Modric? Fabregas.. Fooks sake

I am by know means expecting anyone to instantly believe my information as I understand you have had jokers here before.
