Wymsey Posted 20 June 2011 Posted 20 June 2011 Swing arms and don't sprint too hard at beginning. Reminds me of a Sports Day event at school at Saffron Lane where I had a stitch whilst in the middle of a race, getting moaned at by my sports teacher afterwards.

Wycombe Fox Posted 21 June 2011 Posted 21 June 2011 What's your PB? What's the opposition like compared to your PB? Was your PB done by front-running or by sitting behind and blitzing the last 100?

Finnegan Posted 21 June 2011 Posted 21 June 2011 If you have to ask then I'm guessing you aren't a great runner. If that's the case you won't do it all at full tilt. I used to aim for a near-sprint start, I wanted to set the early pace as I used to have bags of stamina. Find a rhythm you can hold for both laps that won't kill you too much to sprint the last 200/150, that's essentially it.
Marcus LCFC Posted 26 June 2011 Posted 26 June 2011 My brother is running in the great north run this year But winning the 800m tough one :Sprint :Motivation :Think at the end of the race a prize awaits you (Big Mac)
MPH Posted 27 June 2011 Posted 27 June 2011 If you dont know too much about running i personally would try and get to the front and then you know you only have to run a little bit faster as the next fastest to win. What you DONT want to do is take it easy, find yourself in 5th for after the first lap and then give those at the front a 20 metre head start for the final sprint. At least if you hit the front and dont have enough gas in the tank you know you lost fair and square
Finnegan Posted 29 June 2011 Posted 29 June 2011 1500 is a bit easier, in my opinion. In modern athletics the 4 and 8 are really fast races, almost flat out. I used to love the 1500, was my favourite event when I was in my teens.
