Bezzanator89 Posted 29 June 2011 Posted 29 June 2011 It's true. I'll post the link just so people don't need to keep going back to the first page to see it. Sky Sports News Link

Mills might decide he wants to achieve promotion and at the moment he wont get starts for Stoke. As far as the money side goes these owners have built an empire business from the ground up, they know how to handle cash once it gets too much they will say so.

Stoke are really having a go in the transfer market. Mills will clearly be 3rd or 4th choice at Stoke behind Shawcross and Huth. He will be an automatic selection with us. That would have to be the basis of his decision to come to us.
General Smuts Posted 29 June 2011 Posted 29 June 2011 Pay the money Svennis. Quality at the back that we've needed since the Tunch got injured and Hobbs decided that League 1 was his level.
General Smuts Posted 29 June 2011 Posted 29 June 2011 It does seem though that Sven has taken note of the best players in the Championship rather than buying up every Premiership has been on a free. Which im a big fan of. Id rather have players desperate to get to the prem than players who are failing to get back. Linked with Mills, Whittingham, Kebe, Maynard, Westwood and to a lesser extent St Ledger, Sharp, Evans and Nugent and Danns & Schmeichel signed.
wattolcfc Posted 29 June 2011 Posted 29 June 2011 Matt Mills.. Superstar in the making, could be the next Walshy? Give that boy a contract Svennis!
CKB Posted 29 June 2011 Posted 29 June 2011 This would be one quality signing, but i just can't see it happening and whether there is any firm truth behind it is questionable ...Bert?
Bellend Sebastian Posted 29 June 2011 Posted 29 June 2011 This would be both incredible, and highly worrying financially. It does seem a bit mental, particularly when for old bastards like me the near financial meltdown after we got relegated from the Premier doesn't seem that long ago. That said, if you are going to spend serious money on players you might as well buy ones on the up rather than approaching the end of their career because at least then if you find yourself in a position where you've got to sell you should recoup what you paid or maybe get even sillier money for them
Danny the Fox 95 Posted 29 June 2011 Posted 29 June 2011 Matt Mills could be the difference between play offs and promotion. He's a solid old fashioned centre back that doesn't mess around with the ball, he does what he has to do. I think if we sign Mills then it shows a real statement of intent and I fully believe that Matt Mills is a 4m pound player. Also with Ben Mee and him at the back our back line will be a real strength as both centre backs are tough resilient defenders something we lacked last season with Bamba in the side. Also with the addition of Peltier who is no stranger to a tough challenge recieving 11 yellow cards and 2 red cards last season for Huddersfield and the South African left back who has played over 30 games for the national side, it shows Sven has seen our weak points-defence wise last season. So please Sven sign Matt Mills and do whatever it takes to get him!
Guest Bilo Posted 29 June 2011 Posted 29 June 2011 24, already one of the best defenders in the division and obviously has plenty of years left in him. The fact that Neil Danns is the oldest player we've bought or been linked to, and he's only 28, is an encouraging sign that Sven isn't just building a team to be promoted to the Premiership but to stay there as well. Optimistic if this goes through. Oh, and he's going out with this lady.
CKB Posted 29 June 2011 Posted 29 June 2011 He's a solid old fashioned centre back that doesn't mess around with the ball, he does what he has to do. He's got abit more about him aswell, because if that was the case we may aswell have kept Hobbs...

Agreed, I'm a firm believer that you need experience of this division to get out of it. On the pitch and in the dugout - I think Sven probably found he was on a bit of a learning curve last season. The drawback of this approach is that the team is invariably unprepared for Premier League life, and we will require a whole new bunch of signings to stay up if we were to achieve promotion. But that's simply what it takes these days.
Danny the Fox 95 Posted 29 June 2011 Posted 29 June 2011 He's got abit more about him aswell, because if that was the case we may aswell have kept Hobbs... Yeah also from what Ive seen he's more of a leader than Hobbs as he's Reading captain, plus he poses more of an aerial threat than Hobbs, and I remember his last ditch save off the line last season from Steve Howard! It was pretty amazing.
General Smuts Posted 29 June 2011 Posted 29 June 2011 Oh, and he's going out with this lady. Lucky ****er Agreed, I'm a firm believer that you need experience of this division to get out of it. The drawback of this approach is that the team is invariably unprepared for Premier League life, and we will require a whole new bunch of signings to stay up if we were to achieve promotion. But that's simply what it takes these days. But i see Sven taking a simliar approach if we get to the prem next season - signing players with Premiership experience who have a fair few years in them. Theoretically going for players like Marc Albrighton who have had a few games in the premiership and done well.
CKB Posted 29 June 2011 Posted 29 June 2011 Yeah also from what Ive seen he's more of a leader than Hobbs as he's Reading captain, plus he poses more of an aerial threat than Hobbs, and I remember his last ditch save off the line last season from Steve Howard! It was pretty amazing. It was unfortunately for us! He is more of a leader in ways, he can pass better, he has more pace and he's more of the type of defender i think Sven would want.. But i still think this will be a no-goer, but if it does happen? well happy fooking days!
