Nationwider Posted 4 July 2011 Posted 4 July 2011 Brighton's chairman/owner is a pro gambler. Says it all really.

cc_star Posted 5 July 2011 Author Posted 5 July 2011 Couldn't we have sent that lookalike bloke to meet CMS? http://news.sky.com/skynews/Home/World-News/Sven-Goran-Eriksson-Impersonator-Derek-Williams-Fools-Mexican-Club-Pumas-On-Visit-To-Training-Ground/Article/200807315046028
cc_star Posted 5 July 2011 Author Posted 5 July 2011 When Fry said this time last week that he was going to have talks with Sven he mentioned him being away. He was, he was in Thailand on behalf of King Power launching some coaching academy. Somewhat hard to make yourself available to meet when you are on the other side of the world. Hardly Svens fault. Nice priorities, Obviously he's here as much as a figurehead for the Thai's as he is manager of the club, but the signing of what could be a key player in the promotion race thanks to his work ethic & goals sounds pretty important to me. It's not like he had to sit through weeks of negotiations just a handshake & share his vision, tell the lad he's really important and he'd love him to be here is perhaps all it would have took. Still, it's a done deal... people in the press saying he wasn't impressed when he came, I'd think not being able to meet the manager when you're signing for 4 years is a pretty big deal (IMO) All we can do is move on & if the club genuinely wanted him then they need to learn from it next time they meet with people

At a time when we're chasing bigger fish - Mills and Maynard in particular - it's important to set the message straight.
m00nie Posted 5 July 2011 Posted 5 July 2011 were just all clutching at straws again tbh.. personally i think both rumours are false.. i believe sven would have met him but i dont think sven would have turned him down.. CMS is hardly going to say we made him feel the most welcome etc as people would query why he joined them instead of us..

MikeyT Posted 5 July 2011 Posted 5 July 2011 Sam Allardyce on CMS on @sportsbreakfast "Strangely enough he choose Brighton. Seems more of a financial than a football move."

Secondly, you haven't got a scooby doo what was actually said, who met who, when they met etc. Thirdly, I've been told by a very good source it was Sven who pulled the plug and not CMS. Fourthly, could you please at least wait until the start of the season before you start your pointless Sven bashing again.
Len Finsbury Posted 5 July 2011 Posted 5 July 2011 He's probably their record signing too, which will only empower the egotistical.
MikeyT Posted 5 July 2011 Posted 5 July 2011 Posh chairman: "WHU made an unbelievable offer, I nearly fell off my chair. I wanted him to sign for West Ham cos deal was better for us."ad

Fourthly, could you please at least wait until the start of the season before you start your pointless Sven bashing again. Yup, that's what I said Secondly I'm going by what's coming out of Brighton, see the OP for details... CMS himself seems to back it up in his interviews, but not in quite so many words Thirdly, fair enough... which is why I said " if he was a genuine target for the club... Fourthly, P off, there's no pointless sven bashing, only your agenda to make it so... I just commented, in a forum for commenting on what's around from several sources - various Brighton boards, CMS, fourth official and of course talksport whose source seems to be pretty obviously CMS' agent
Sniffer-Clarke Posted 5 July 2011 Posted 5 July 2011 Its very difficult to understand why CMS chose Brighton with all the other clubs who made him offers two in the premier league, roly poly Fry said it was all about ambition -come on Barry you can do better than that -cant you?
Fox92 Posted 5 July 2011 Posted 5 July 2011 Brighton have lost that Glen Murray to Palace. Therefore, Poyet most probably told Mackail-Smith he would be his number one striker, where as, Leicester City might have highlighted that Sven was after other targets and Mackail-Smith wasn't going to be the number one striker. In my opinion, Brighton will not get relegated next season. They will stay in the divsion, however, teams such as ourselves and West Ham are pushing for promotion. So, why would he join Brighton? Theres only the location of the club that sticks out. Brighton offered him more money? Doubt it, look at our finances compared to other clubs. I think we could offer him the same amount/more than what he is now getting at Brighton unless Sven has somesort of cap. Brighton have better facilities? Our ground is good for a new ground and we are having a new training ground built. Future of the club? I think we've got more money than Brighton, an all round better squad and the right backroom staff in place. The only things that stick in my mind are that Mackail-Smith wasn't going to be our number one striker, or, the location of Brighton. He can get a nice little house near a beach playing for Brighton etc...

You're still banging on about your own agenda, trying to undermine Sven-Göran Eriksson's reputation by trying to make him look like he doesn't know what he's doing. Personally, I think that's a) pretty rich and b) rather unheard of. And lastly, it's a bit repetitious. In the end, if a player doesn't want to play for Leicester, he doesn't want to play for Leicester. End of. Can we now move on? Can we now start supporting the players that we DO have and the ones we're about to sign this week instead of lingering in the past and discussing missed transfer targets?

I am absolute agreing with you! If a player don´t will come and do the job Sven want him to do (in start eleven or bench) just drop him! And so I think Sven did There is a lot of strikers out there and much better..... Wait and see! Here we goes :scarf:

Can we now start supporting the players that we DO have and the ones we're about to sign this week instead of lingering in the past and discussing missed transfer targets? I wasn't implying anything, I said quite clearly it was from Brighton forums & CMS himself (although he eluded to it on not so many words) although fourth_official has been adamant all along something was amiss with his meeting and TalkSport whose source appears to be CMS' agent has said similar things... I am implying nothing, in my original post I even underlined it & put it in bold letter that "Obviously I have no way of knowing whether the Sven part of what they're saying is correct," because some people like to infer that I'm anti-Sven when I'm no such thing... I posts that he appeared cluelessly inflexible during the 3-0 Ipswich defeat (our 4th away defeat on the trot in December) and ever since then the usual faces can't wait to read to much into my posts to try and manipulate them into some sort of anti-Sven sentiment... Like I said this is why I bolded & underlined my text, because I have no way of knowing. Inferring things aside... your source for Sven pulling the deal? When it was obvious the club had marched everyone to the top of the 'CMS hill' and yes, moving on.... to be fair there is NO actually proof what went on..
