davieG Posted 9 July 2011 Posted 9 July 2011 Merc - http://www.thisislei...ail/story.html? Sven-Goran Eriksson has said he has no intention of selling Leicester City defender Sol Bamba. The Ivorian has been linked with a £2million move to Marseille, but Eriksson said City had not received an approach from the French side, nor would he welcome one. "I have heard that rumour for weeks but Marseille have not contacted us at all," he said. "I don't know what is behind that. We want to keep Bamba, we don't want to sell him. "There are a lot of rumours about players going out, but so far nothing. "The numbers are too big at the moment and we do have to sell some players, but I think all the players want to stay. "The ambition is to get into the Premier League and the players all want to be part of it." Eriksson was hopeful that South Africa defender Tsepo Masilela will pass a medical and join up with City during their tour of Sweden next week ahead of a season-long loan from Israeli side Maccabi Haifi. "I can't confirm he is definitely coming, but it might happen," said Eriksson. "The thing there is the medical, because he has been injured. "He has been on our list for a long time and we know he is a good player. But it is not done yet." Eriksson is also hopeful of bringing back Miguel Vitor and Ben Mee to the King Power Stadium for second loan spells after successful stays last season. Eriksson is close to an agreement with Benfica over defender Vitor, but admitted Manchester City defender Mee is a little reluctant so far. "I have spoken to (Benfica boss) Rui Costa and Vitor might come, and I am trying to get Ben but I think he is looking at all the signings we are making, and he wants to play regular football," said Eriksson. "It might happen, one or even both of them." Meanwhile, Eriksson has begun the search for Didi Hamman's successor as first-team coach, and admitted he might promote from within his current staff. Hamman only joined the club in February from MK Dons but left this week to become the manager of Blue Square Premier side Stockport County. "We didn't want to lose Didi because he is a good football man and good to have around," said Eriksson. "The players have a lot of respect for him, and they should have as well. "I can understand because he has the chance to be a manager just a couple of years after he has stopped playing. He wants to do that and I wish him good luck and thank him for what he has done for us. "I tried to convince him that it would be better for him to stay but he wanted to do it, so okay. "We have started to discuss it and maybe we will try to resolve it internally, maybe, but we haven't decided yet."
sdb Posted 9 July 2011 Posted 9 July 2011 Wow sounds like Vitor is close and Mee could come too. That's a lot of defenders.
Saxondale Posted 9 July 2011 Posted 9 July 2011 Vitor & Mills at CB. Or a Martin O'Neill-style back three of Vitor, Mills and St Ledger / Bamba? I'll have a bit of that. Bring back 5-3-2!
80footgiraffe Posted 9 July 2011 Posted 9 July 2011 Although sven doesn't want him to go, it's not like it's set in stone. I think we need confirmation from the man himself before we know for certain.
Guest shearfox Posted 9 July 2011 Posted 9 July 2011 Vitor and Mee can play at full back as well so would offer good cover there. I can understand Mee being reluctant because it seems we are going to have a lot of good players in that position, but his flexible so I'm sure he would still get games. However Vitor and Mills would be the best in this division, it's a premier league pairing that is for sure.
21st Century Fox Posted 9 July 2011 Posted 9 July 2011 Getting Vitor would be massive. Not only could we potentially have the best defensive pairing we've had for a long time but there could also be that slim chance that should we go up we might be able to pry him away from Benfica, slim but you never know.
shen Posted 9 July 2011 Posted 9 July 2011 Mills, St Ledger, Bamba and possibly Vitor and/or Mee. Surely this spells the end of Tunch's time here
Nick Posted 9 July 2011 Posted 9 July 2011 Resolve Didi's position internally........? Hmm maybe Thrac wasn't too far off the mark suggesting Oakley? Also who else are we going to sell, I'm hoping Gally, King and Wellens are being kept for this season!
Haydos Posted 9 July 2011 Posted 9 July 2011 Mee wants regular football. Got a feeling he won't be coming if that's the case.
Fox92 Posted 9 July 2011 Posted 9 July 2011 He wouldn't be anywhere near my team either, with Mills, St. Ledger and possibly Vitor coming back (reading that article, not reading to much into it ). Sounds like Mee wants first team football which we can't offer him really. Could be good cover though. Vitor and Mills though, what a combination. Wow.
MPH Posted 9 July 2011 Posted 9 July 2011 That stinks of talking up the price. if you want to keep a player you dont keep saying we havnt had an offer you would just say he is not for sale and thats final. Does he REALLY want 5 central defenders?
IronHidez Posted 9 July 2011 Posted 9 July 2011 Forget about Bamba Its Mills and St Ledger Bamba would be good back up and possible a CDM Position would be on the cards And good to hear about Ben Mee too!
demon_dog Posted 10 July 2011 Posted 10 July 2011 Agree with Alan Youngs comments on RL. If the reports are true that they would pay 2 million for him then I wouldn't hesitate, sell him.
