Sven Says Squad Is Too Big

I suspect Waggy may stay, but the others are likely to go. Tunch is very, very iffy, and has a lot to prove in a short time, regarding his fitness.

It is likely that we will bring in another couple of players, possibly three, in my humble opinion.

I'd like to see Robbie Neilson, Dany N'Guessan, Tom Kennedy and Yann Kermorgant all to be sold.

I can't see Tunchev staying for much longer. I can see this forthcoming season being his last.

Waghorn is ok backup at the minute, but if we get better strikers in (such as Maynard), then I don't care if Waghorn is sold. He can't control his shots. Dyer is decent but nothing more, I prefer him on the right than left but he is far too inconsistant for a team looking for Promotion like ourselves. Gallagher isn't good enough either.

As for Howard, he is slow now. But he still holds the ball up well. Although he isn't there to score, his passion for the game is top rate and I think we could develop him into a coach.[/b]

why are so many people bothered about developing players into coaches, surely the playing staff should be there based on their ability to play football. what is howard going to coach players, how to avoid the net most games but stick a good tackle in and show some heart to win over the fans that think effort outweighs talent. i swear i've heard people say hargreaves could become a good player/coach. what the f**k? if hargreaves was fit enough to play he would be an unbelievable signing, better than most in leicester's history. but if his fitness only means he can play a little and mainly coach then we really have got too much dough if we'r happy to pay £20,000 + a week on a coach.

also, howard was finished before we even signed him, people say he's good in the air but he's not, tim cahill is good in the air, javier hernandez is good in the air, howard is tall and fouls most times he jumps, and on those occasions he does win the header fairly it's a lottery on which direction the ball will actually go.

Use your Noggins, lads!

After we got Vassell he used Vassell on the right of the three. He is after Maynard ( or someone else if we dont get him) to play down the middle - a natural goal scorer.. He did not sign Nugent to sit on the bench..

If he didnt use Waghorn as a regular starter last season what makes you think he will this season? especially after signing 2 more strikers ( one of those still to come... but definitely on his way.. Possibly Ched Evans aswell!!)

Huh? I never said he would?

All I said was he isn't a winger and he's hardly worth 2/3m in reality.

I never used to be much of a fan either, but he's definately improved.

We wont get Maynard after £4.5m was rejected...Also I wasnt talking about vassell and yes i know he used vassell since I went nearly every game. I also said Nugent will play in the middle and not the left like the other guy said. I think waghorn will leave for about £1.2m so I dont know what you read but I never said anything about nugent on the bench lol

i would keep howard for back up. be a good player for the rough/physical games.howard as never been a 20 a season striker, still can offer a lot from the bench.

Seriously?!

Don't see whats so funny. His set pieces are good like, I'm pretty confident when he steps up for a free kick or penalty, and his shooting from distance is also good, but I think thats all he offers really. He always backs out of tackles which can put the team under real pressure, and he hasn't got enough pace to beat a player.

He's a nice man and a good joker which all teams need, but on the pitch, I'd rather see Vassell be playing out wide than Gallagher.

Howard will offer nothing in Sven's style, and I think it's time for him to move on sadly, but I'll wish him all the best.

Vassell, totally wasted out wide, never rated him even as a wide forward for us last year and was ten times more effective in the centre, I wouldn't mind seeing him up front with Nugent sometimes in the 4-4-2. Obviously we're going to need a star (well maybe not obviously, I just think we will) up front, and two natural wingers who can play either side, Routledge would've been ideal.

It's alright saying Vassell "does a job" on the right forward role, we need BETTER than "does a job", we need someone to be getting goals and making them regularly from there.

This isn't a dig at Vassell, that wasn't his position, and I earlier stated he is a good forward, I think he'll play a bigger part this year than people think.

Gallagher isn't good enough either.

Bloody hell.

I'd have agreed before January, but I think he absolutely flourished in the second half of the season and dare I say it, probably our best all-round attacking player, probably our main threat at times.

Sven got the best out of him, he's growing on me more and more, definitely keep him I reckon.

Don't know why people are saying stuff like this about Gallagher. Great passer of a ball, set pieces are up there with the best in this division. He isn't a winger do he shouldnt need pace; his distribution and vision are more than enough to keep him in the squad at least! I must agree with the 50-50 tackles part though, needs to man up a bit! :)

I think (and hope) waghorn, dyer and tunchev will stay. Sven has said Tunch has a contract up til the end of pre season, and he wants him to stay after that providing he proves his fitness.

Same here stu.. I'd like those three to stay for sure

Sven seems to have found the best in Gallagher, I think he'll play a big role next season.

I do agree, but he needs to be more consistent with his set pieces, ie. some can be great whilst others can be way over the bar etc.

This.

I've said this over and over but where some say he 'slows play down' I think he offers a good outlet more catered to creative build up play rather than an out and out winger who will often give the ball away (Mr Dyer I'm looking at you). This also gives us a good balance. If we had a right footed, traditional winger on the right (Nothing against Vas but an out and out winger such as Routledge would be preferred) I think it would be a great setup.

I don't think all pace and no brains at this level cuts it. If you're that talented a winger you'll be at a top club. Players like Dyer often run into corners/lose control/have little direction when going forward so having Gally on the left cutting in with the ability to cross/pass/shoot is a great option IMO.

Just seen on the Sky Sports news info bar, that Sven Goran Eriksson has said that the squad is currently too big, and players will be sold. Of course this was going to happen sooner or later, but does this affect the flow of new signings at all or will we just carry on as normal by flogging players out aswell as getting players in. Doesn't seem Bamba will be a player who is going to leave, as it has said that Sven wants him to stay of course in the Mercury, on other websites and also on sky sports news.

So what players do you think will be heading for the exit doors, it's not hard to figure out the main one's but could we get a few shocks or two?

Robbie Neilson - Been told to find another club

Moreno - Won't get played now as we have Danns, Oakley as back-up and been linked with Hargreaves

Dany N'Guessan - No room for him anymore, don't think his good enough

Tom Kennedy - Waste of a buy definitely will be sold

Tom Parkes - Too many defenders, been loaned out but might be time to sell properly

Leon Crncic - Will be released I suspect

Yann Kermorgant - Less said about him the better

Think those seven players are destined for the exit, meanwhile that still leaves players like Tunchev, Howard, Dyer and Waghorn in the dark will they depart aswell?

If those players included the one's im not sure about we would have a squad looking like this.

Goalkeepers - Weale, Smith, Schmeichel

Defenders - Berner, Bamba, Mills, St Ledger, Peltier

Midfielders - Oakley, King, Wellens, Abe, Moussa, Danns

Wingers - Gallagher, Vassell

Strikers - Nugent, Schlupp

Thoughts?

The players that you originally listed are certainly not up to the required standard and, in my opinion, should all be looking for new clubs - I'd even be tempted to add Moussa to the list. Based on the signings that we have seen so far I'm guessing that we'll be playing 4-3-3 again this season which gives us the following squad:

Goalkeepers: Schmeichel, Weale

Defenders: Peltier, MIlls, Bamba, St Ledger, Berner (and possibly Tunchev)

Midfielders: Wellens, King, Danns, Abe, Oakley

Strikers: Gallagher, Nugent, Vassell, Dyer, Howard, Waghorn

Some of the youngsters may get a look-in on the bech from time-to-time (e.g. Smith, Taft and Schlupp) but I don't think that they are ready to make the step-up during this crucial season.

In my opinion, we still need another two fullbacks (one either side) and another centreback if Tunchev fails to prove his fitness (Ben Mee on loan would be good). We seem to have enough midfielders, but if someone incredibly good becomes available (for example, Owen Hargreaves on a pay-as-you-play deal - which I personally think has 0% chance of happening) then one more would not do us any harm (although it would probably spell the end of Oakley's career at the club). We seem to have enough "wingers" for the front three but I still think that we are missing the all important central striker. For me, Yakubu is the ideal candidate and I'd rather see him back then pay a ridiculous fee for Maynard (although I do believe that Maynard would be an asset - I just don't want to pay £7.5 million for him!). Howard will not start any games this season but is still nice to have as a different option on the bench - I would have no objections to him moving on. I also wouldn't mind if Waghorn or Dyer were moved on this season - I've got nothing against them - I just feel that Vassell, Nugent and Gallagher are all better then they are and as such only ever see them featuring from the bench.
