Leicester City have today completed the signing of defender Paul Konchesky from Liverpool for an undisclosed fee.

Having agreed terms on a three-year contract with the Foxes and successfully completed a medical, the 30-year-old full-back will join up with the first team squad on their tour of Sweden this week.

A firmly-established Premier League defender and an England international, Konchesky heads to King Power Stadium after a year at Anfield, where he made 18 appearances following a move from Fulham.

City manager Sven-Goran Eriksson said: "Paul has been a Premier League player year in and year out throughout his career so he represents a very big signing for us.

"He wanted to come to Leicester City and it means a lot that proven, established top flight footballers want to be part of what we are building here.

"I know Paul very well as a player and as a person and he will be a top class addition to our squad."

London-born Konchesky started his career with Charlton Athletic, carving a reputation as one of the country's finest young full-backs during an eight-year spell with the Addicks, making over 150 appearances.

Eriksson himself handed Konchesky his England debut in a friendly against Australia in February 2003 and picked him for the Three Lions once more for a friendly against Argentina two years later.

Following a brief loan spell with Tottenham, Konchesky moved to West Ham United in July 2005, where he continued to impress. During two years with the Hammers, he played 70 times and scored twice, including a memorable goal in the 2006 FA Cup Final in Cardiff's Millennium Stadium.

He passed 350 Premier League appearances after joining Fulham in 2007, before boss Roy Hodgson took him to Liverpool for £3million in August last year following his switch to Anfield.

Konchesky spent the second half of last season on loan with Nottingham Forest, where he made 15 appearances and scored once as City's East Midlands rivals made a late surge into the play-offs.

It's starting to feel a bit like Championship Manager.

No, I'm a bit worried too. I can't put my finger on why - we're building a fantastic squad. I think its just the knowledge that several teams have tried to spend big to get out of here and not managed it yet. Still, in Sven we trust!

On Konchesky alone, I'm looking forward to seeing him play. He was a good Premiership player at Fulham and simply couldn't seem to fit in at Liverpool. Fingers crossed he should regain his confidence here under Sven and we should see a good signing...

I think he will... it's more the finance side of things. I know these guys are rich, but what we are spending is about 3/4 times more than I ever thought we would!!!

Exciting but scary!!

Don't rate him that much. Might be a good, solid full back at Championship level but I don't have full confidence yet. I think he came through West Ham's academy though, so, thats a posotive.

Does this mean we are not signing Ball now? But if we do, Bruno might be on his way out for good? :dunno:

Exactly that.

I'm feeling very optimistic for the new season with a hint of worry.

Couple more signings and we are set. Might as well try and forget the scared part for now though and try to enjoy the fact that for as long as we can remember, we actually have money to spend and aren't just going for the 35 year old journeyman striker after a final paycheck or all free players. :) Although Danns on a free is a steal.

One of these please.

I can remember watching the match on SKY, I think it ended 3-1. I think he supports West Ham as well.

I think if routledge and another striker come in clearing the deadwood needs to come sooner rather than later

Possibly the best signing yet. Wow.

I'm not usually good with this sort of stuff, but i can't tell if there is sarcasm in your post. lol

Sven has this right - Roy Hodgson paid £3m to take him to Liverpool last season. Liverpool. From Fulham. Established Premier League player. He had one bad season and we have pulled off a good deal here. Welcome Paul, help us take you back to the Prem!
