teblin Posted 23 July 2011 Posted 23 July 2011 To be fair to city, I think they have done alright first half against a very good team. They have kept their shape for the majority of the half, had some nice passing in spell. A lot of Premier league side would struggle against a side like valencia!

Back on topic - we need to play more stuff through Abe as his range of passing is great and he doesn't give it away easily. Is it just me or does Wellens NEVER seem to pass to him. sdb Posted 23 July 2011 Posted 23 July 2011 Sol's played well for 90% of the half but he has huge lapses in concentration. We're not gonna score because we're rushing the ball forward but have nobody up top who can retain/hold up a ball. I'd like to see Vass and Schlupp swap positions, although I doubt it'd change much. Hopefully this XI get another 20 mins or so before rotation.

If we were 1-0 down to Man City and they were dominating us would we be complaining? Actually, probably we would. Valencia beat sides of our quality with ease all of the time. We rarely step up to this sort of level and it's not surprising we're not competing. We desperately need a proper centre-forward. Vassell is running the channels and holding the ball up well out wide, but every time it comes down the middle it just comes straight back.

Number 6 Posted 23 July 2011 Posted 23 July 2011 Honestly quite pleased so far. Valencia have obvious quality but we've looked ok. Missing that man up top but Vaz and Schlupp have shown that they could cause problems. Think Konchesky has looked great.

Quality quality side who bullied us for the first 25 minutes but I am very pleased with the character being shown in trying to fight back. Abe is definately looking sharp, and Konchesky is prem class, good effort so far.
