  1. 1. Should City bid for Shane Long?

    • Yes but no more than £6m
    • Yes but no more than £4m
    • Yes cash and player exchange
    • Only if we fail to land Nicky Maynard
    • Only if another Championship side makes a bid
    • No not a chance

Shane Long's suitors have been told that Reading are in no rush to sell their star player as the possibility of a bidding war intensifies.

Championship rivals West Ham United have tested manager Brian McDermott’s resolve with an £8million bid.

But their offer to pay around £5m up front with another £3m in add-ons was rejected.

McDermott told the Reading Post two weeks ago that Long wouldn’t join a Championship outfit and Premier League club West Bromwich Albion remain a more likely destination.

Reports have also speculated that Liverpool are keeping tabs on the 24-year-old striker.

But there has been no firm offer from Kop boss Kenny Dalglish, whose scouts saw Long score twice as Royals beat Northampton 3-0 in a pre-season friendly last Saturday.

McDermott knows the chances of holding on to last season’s 25-goal hero are diminishing. Long has entered the last year of his contract and Royals will not want him to walk away for free next summer.

But Royals’ boss said: “As far as I’m concerned Shane will be playing against Swindon tomorrow.

“The more times I can put him on a Reading team sheet then the better it is for me. West Ham made a bid and apart from that there haven’t been too many. It’s still early days.

I imagine that we would offer more money say 6m up front with 2m add ons :dunno:

How do Maynard and Long compare?

Who would you pay more for?

If we sign Long(and that is a BIG if) and I miss his first goal for us cos I'm stuck in the French boonies or mumbling (sober -I don't drink wine or lager) incoherent franksays in Bordeaux I am going to be sooooo pished off!

Sven if you pull this off I'll be a very happy but sad individual! I may well explode with the contrasting wallops of emotion.

8 mil is ridiculous. Id look else where. Maynard is available for 4 mil right?

Why so negative

Im not being negative mate but I just feel Shane Long wouldnt give us a second thought or West Ham he will be a premier league player before the start of the season im sure.

Fair enough, but at least Sven is considering other options besides Maynard, Shane Long although quite expensive would be a very good acquisition he came on leaps on bounds last year and if he can replicate that sort of form and even more we would have a top notch striker at our helm

8Million that's alot of coin what if he doesn't do as well this season? If you ask me just pay the Yak because he will score 20 goals I think long is quality but 8Million is to much.

Please God no. £8 mill is a joke. Had a horrible feeling we'd conform and get involved. Maynard's a better player and surely wouldn't cost £8mill. He's no where near worth it himself. Come on Sven stay sensible!!
