Happy Fox Posted 29 July 2011 Posted 29 July 2011 http://www.getreading.co.uk/sport/football/readingfc/s/2097262_reading_fc_to_play_a_long_waiting_game Shane Long's suitors have been told that Reading are in no rush to sell their star player as the possibility of a bidding war intensifies. Championship rivals West Ham United have tested manager Brian McDermott’s resolve with an £8million bid. But their offer to pay around £5m up front with another £3m in add-ons was rejected. McDermott told the Reading Post two weeks ago that Long wouldn’t join a Championship outfit and Premier League club West Bromwich Albion remain a more likely destination. Reports have also speculated that Liverpool are keeping tabs on the 24-year-old striker. But there has been no firm offer from Kop boss Kenny Dalglish, whose scouts saw Long score twice as Royals beat Northampton 3-0 in a pre-season friendly last Saturday. McDermott knows the chances of holding on to last season’s 25-goal hero are diminishing. Long has entered the last year of his contract and Royals will not want him to walk away for free next summer. But Royals’ boss said: “As far as I’m concerned Shane will be playing against Swindon tomorrow. “The more times I can put him on a Reading team sheet then the better it is for me. West Ham made a bid and apart from that there haven’t been too many. It’s still early days. I imagine that we would offer more money say 6m up front with 2m add ons
ibbosuk Posted 29 July 2011 Posted 29 July 2011 What would people think about an £8m bid for long? What do you think about 8m bid for Long ??
Guest Posted 29 July 2011 Posted 29 July 2011 How do Maynard and Long compare? Who would you pay more for?
sphericalfox Posted 29 July 2011 Posted 29 July 2011 If we sign Long(and that is a BIG if) and I miss his first goal for us cos I'm stuck in the French boonies or mumbling (sober -I don't drink wine or lager) incoherent franksays in Bordeaux I am going to be sooooo pished off! Sven if you pull this off I'll be a very happy but sad individual! I may well explode with the contrasting wallops of emotion.
crisp packet Posted 29 July 2011 Posted 29 July 2011 If we get him I will be one happy boy!!! strikers cost! Big future.... A winger and we are sorted . Sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet or bust.
Guest NGoloMode Posted 29 July 2011 Posted 29 July 2011 8 mil is ridiculous. Id look else where. Maynard is available for 4 mil right?
Happy Fox Posted 29 July 2011 Posted 29 July 2011 8 mil is ridiculous. Id look else where. Maynard is available for 4 mil right? We will get Maynard next year on a free contract, Bristol thought they could play us how wrong could they be
Bettsy82 Posted 29 July 2011 Posted 29 July 2011 Shane Long will not be signing for leicester, why is this even up for discussion ?
Happy Fox Posted 29 July 2011 Posted 29 July 2011 Shane Long will not be signing for leicester, why is this even up for discussion ? Why so negative
Chryatis Posted 29 July 2011 Posted 29 July 2011 I would love us to sign him - I just don't see it happening
Blanesta Posted 29 July 2011 Posted 29 July 2011 8 million could have probably bought the Yak and Maynard a while back, i'd go for Maynard 5mill, 4.5 mill up front, 500k 20 goal add-on.
Danny the Fox 95 Posted 29 July 2011 Posted 29 July 2011 Bert/Liam please put us out of our misery. Both of you have given hints, please say we have made a bid for him!!
Bettsy82 Posted 29 July 2011 Posted 29 July 2011 Why so negative Im not being negative mate but I just feel Shane Long wouldnt give us a second thought or West Ham he will be a premier league player before the start of the season im sure.
Happy Fox Posted 29 July 2011 Posted 29 July 2011 Im not being negative mate but I just feel Shane Long wouldnt give us a second thought or West Ham he will be a premier league player before the start of the season im sure. Fair enough, but at least Sven is considering other options besides Maynard, Shane Long although quite expensive would be a very good acquisition he came on leaps on bounds last year and if he can replicate that sort of form and even more we would have a top notch striker at our helm
dannythefox Posted 29 July 2011 Posted 29 July 2011 8Million that's alot of coin what if he doesn't do as well this season? If you ask me just pay the Yak because he will score 20 goals I think long is quality but 8Million is to much.
sdb Posted 29 July 2011 Posted 29 July 2011 Please God no. £8 mill is a joke. Had a horrible feeling we'd conform and get involved. Maynard's a better player and surely wouldn't cost £8mill. He's no where near worth it himself. Come on Sven stay sensible!!
john doe Posted 29 July 2011 Posted 29 July 2011 Cmon Bert, we know you are lurking! Yeah but we want info, not ego!
ibbosuk Posted 29 July 2011 Posted 29 July 2011 Yeah but we want info, not ego! Obviously he don't know oat .....Berlinton Berty......Lost for info.....The paint is flaking M8.....Looks like its back to Fourth Official .......
blueblood88 Posted 29 July 2011 Posted 29 July 2011 A striker who has had ONE good season in the championship is not worth 8 million ****ing pounds! End ****ing of!

The Doctor Posted 29 July 2011 Posted 29 July 2011 Back on topic: I'm sure I read that Long only has one year left on his contract. Is that true?
