  1. 1. Should City bid for Shane Long?

    • Yes but no more than £6m
    • Yes but no more than £4m
    • Yes cash and player exchange
    • Only if we fail to land Nicky Maynard
    • Only if another Championship side makes a bid
    • No not a chance

To sign Long would be top draw but really cant see it happening. Reading want stupid money for him, if were not willing to spend £5m+ for Maynard, why would we for Long?

Their club officials started pissing us off, so we decided to forgo Nicky Maynard

Long and Goodwillie

Saw the back of the mercury when I woke up(my favourite part of the morning) and I nearly fainted.

Forget Jerome and Lita, Sven is heading down the right track with Long, Maynard and Keane.

Long was tremendous last season, proven goalscorer at this level now. GET HIM SVEN :scarf:

Would reallly like long down at filbert way this season but £8 million fcuk off reading no way is he worth that much lets just get the yak in and offer carew a contract ;-)

What? Yang Xu to sign for Leicester. International, 9 goals in 15 games.

He would be worth it if he got us promoted and did a decent job in the prem.

Well yes but if we don't go up we could be looking at administration again. My point is that Shane Long is not an £8million player. We're getting ripped of and it'd be a stupid risk to take. Maynard is at least as good, would cost slightly less. Yakubu would cost less. Good Prem players on loan would cost less and do the same job. This doesn't sit easy with me.

I agree, would rather take Maynard for £5m or Yak for even less. £8m is a huge risk for Long for Premier League teams, let alone for us in the Championship

I do agree with that but in this whole transfer saga I don't think we've been reckless with signings, plus the fact that we still have many players we are able to off load.. If we don't get promoted I believe we will still be solvent but obviously we wouldn't be able to spend as much as this again unless we got to the Prem. Most certainly a gamble but it's 1 that a lot of teams make i.e. Man City.

I fail to see how we could be looking at administration. The owners have shown their commitment and are in it for the long haul. KP is worth 4billion so the finances are there. They are very clever businessmen and have built their company up through hard work. Their not gonna throw down the drain now.

£4bn? Where'd you get that from?

The owners have been great, bloody great, don't get me wrong. If anything, I feel there being a little too loose with the purse strings.

I love Sven but do get the feeling he has become accustomed to simply spending his way out of any holes. There had been no mention Long until West Ham started bidding and now we're interested. It was the same with CMS. It seems a bit strange to me. And the 8 central midfielders, whilst not reckless, seems a little over-exuberant to me. It'll do more damage than good imo, with annoyed playing staff.

Maybe it's the memory of administration 8,9 years ago, but I can't help but baulk at these kinds of figures, especially when a) we're in the second tier and b) so is the player we're being linked with.

I'm with you on this. I'd much rather see us get a PL standard player on loan than fork out a fortune on a football league striker in the last year of their contract who may or may not make the grade should we reach the top division. It's too risky and not at all sensible.

I suppose we might just have to look on the bright side and enjoy being big spenders for as long as it lasts. Hopefully, we can get back to the PL and stay there. I'll be less worried about us splashing the cash if/when that happens.

but Maynard will cost more than £5m and Yak doesn't want to play for us.

Waste of money at the price touted, he's out of flaming contract in the summer for God's sake. We should exercise some patience.

Sure, we could waste the first half of the season waiting for Long and Maynard to get closer to the end of their contracts then hope that they'd rather come to Leicester than any club of their choosing (including some Prem clubs).

We need to get them in now and have the division in our pockets by Christmas :santa:

There's absolutely no guarantee that's spending as much as £15m or more will get us out of this division, it's getting rather daft. Shane Long is not worth anything like £7m. Mills at £4.5m I can just about stomach, even though it's excessive, but this is just daft.

EDIT: The avatar is from the kit design thread, one of our fine members made it.

It's not your money, why are you worrying so much?

If we had spent nothing and gone into the season With Howard and Hobbs as are two top players we'd be more likely looking at relegation. If we want to be promoted this season we HAVE to spend and improve our squad.

£7m for Shane Long is an absurdity.

I think as city supporters we are guilty of being a bit small minded , it's not our fault christ knows we have had more than our share of let downs over the years , but these owners are the real deal they will pay what ever it takes to get their brand name shown all over the world via the premiership . It feels like silly money to us because we are just not used to mixing with the big boys . If they spent twenty million on getting us up it would be worth it to them as businessmen it's a simple arithmetical equation. Come on guys get used to it these are going to be the best years this club has ever seen . Enjoy it because it WILL last .
